Perhaps you missed the ad right under the Blues News logo? :p

No, I didn't miss that - actually, I already own one of those shirts :). But, if you ask me, some of the logos are first rate T-Shirt material and some more T-Shirt variants would be nice. Also, more variants mean that people might buy more than one shirt, so it might be lucrative for Blue, too.

Blue please don't go away!

Amen to that! Blue, if you ever get close to having to shut down, please tell us before it's too late so that we can help you out with donations or whatever. Ok, donations are usually just a one-time thing but every month survived is a month closer to the next upwards trend in the industry.

On a semi-related note: is there any chance that we might see some of the Blue's News logos on a T-Shirt (like the Worms or Space Invaders one)? That'd be cool

I sure hope that the games are not THAT successful. Otherwise we'll get books and at least one movie based on those games. And if they are also successful we get another game trilogy. And then, if those are successful, we'll have some more books and movies and perhaps the odd comic book (oh, and certainly some action figues... and shampoo ... and dog biscuits). And then, if those are also successful we get another game. And then...

So in 10 years we'd probably have LOTR games/books/movies with giant robots, area 51 and sinking sub-marines in them (the stories are certainly going to be "enriched" with "new exciting ideas" with each iteration, especially if they are based on the dog biscuits ;)).

Can't wait!

Well, perhaps I can...

Isn't it rather tasteless releasing it there at all?

No, I don't think so. Look at it like this: in the majority of games you go around killing bad guys. So what if the bad guys are from germany? It doesn't really make a difference.

Aside from the moral angle, Epic had to change all the UT characters into *robots* to get it into Germany, how the hell is Wolfenstein going to get in with its human killing, blood and Nazis?

That's not the reason for all this trouble with Wolfenstein. To clear this up a bit:

If a game is considered "too violent" it normally gets "indexed" here in Germany. This means that it will only be available to people that are at least 18. Shop owners are required by law to check the id of the customer before selling them.
Usually if a game involves killing human beings and/or vast displays of blood it gets indexed. That's the reason why the actors in Unreal were changed to robots and why "blood" is often changed to "green slime" - to prevent it from being indexed and thus ensuring that it can be sold to people younger than 18.
There have been really ridiculous cases in the past, when game graphics were not as realistic as they are now. Sometimes developers only had to write into the manual that you were killing aliens instead of humans, without changing the game itself at all. And with the graphics being that bad nobody could argue against it ;)-

However, all that is not an issue with Wolfenstein. It's almost certain that Wolfenstein will be indexed in Germany, there's no way around that. What id and Gray Matter are trying to do is to prevent the game from being completely banned.
The thing is that displays of Nazi symbols are not allowed in Germany and because of that the US-Version of Wolfenstein is banned here. It is illegal to sell it or even own it. That's why all the swastikas and other symbols have to be removed for the german version.
One of the very few examples where Swastikas were allowed to be included in Germany were the Indiana Jones films. They had to apply for a special permission to be allowed to show this movie in Germany and I guess ID and Gray Matter didn't want to go through all that trouble.

So, I imagine the delay is caused by another German institution wanting to investigate if Wolfenstein can be released in its current form or not. Or something...

Do you think the German's yell "Take that you scum-sucking Nazi swine!" when they frag an enemy?

Yep, sure we do. Well, actually we say "Nimm das Du blödes Nazi-Schwein!", or something, but it in essence it's the same ;).

The irony involved in Germans playing this game is almost too much to bear.

Why? Because the Nazis were Germans? What about Americans playing Max Payne? Max kills his share of Americans, so is that ironic, too?

Errrm. Blue? I have no problems pinging your server (at least when I specify a long wait time). Perhaps your firewall got dropped by Moose or something? Or maybe I'm missing something essential here?

Perhaps they should consider creating a voice-controlled cell phone in the shape of a Star Fleet insignia. Now that'd be cool

Ummm. Not anymore. At least I get a 403 "Authorization Required" error now.

Correction - the download works again now. Seems like this was either a temporary thing or something caused by server overload or something...

it looks as good as the recently annouced Sniper game...

What do you mean? I think the ingame graphics are quite good actually. Although I have to admit that I'm a bit biased. I have invested too many hours, days, weeks, months of my youth playing Patrician I. Ahhhh. Wine from Brügge to Danzig, crockery from there to Nowgorod, order a new Kogge there and go back with furs to Brügge. And hope for a spice caravan to arrive. What a game :D. If the second part is that good I'll have to take some extended vacation. Half a year or so

Is it possible for you guys to purchase it over the internet from the U.S.

Well, importing it directly is pretty expensive as most major retailers charge huge shipping fees and on top of that we have to pay quite a lot of customs fees.

However, it is usually possible to find some local (=in-country) shop that imports US versions in large quantities (at least here in germany). These versions usually cost about 2-5$ more here than what you guys pay in the US (I got the US version of SS for 50DM (~22$)).

By the way: Serious Sam was also budget priced in germany. The german version was about 45DM (~20$) if I remember correctly.

Hmmm. I just had a look at some of your reviews. And I've got to say that most seem to be pretty shallow. Apart from that christianity and anti-violence stuff there's often not much of a game description in there. Most of the time it's just "graphics are nice" and "bad music" but what's really missing in these so-called reviews is an in-depth description of the gameplay itself. Is that the reason why you use these large bold fonts? To make the texts seem longer?

Sorry if I come over somehow negative but that's the impression I got from your site. You should really work on giving a good overview of the gameplay first and then giving your opinion about it. Otherwise the text is entirely subjective and no help to anyone else. The current texts on your website are not reviews but some kind of violence rating system with some influences from graphics and sound. That's how they appeared to me, anyway...
