oh my god Hazard do you know your eyes are wiggling?

Yeah, they probably do. So what? My eyes can do what they want. We're in a democracy here, after all, not like those Russians and Bulgarians. THEIR eyes probably aren't allowed to wiggle at all, not even a little bit when nobody sees. But if my eyes want to wiggle then, by god, wiggle they will!

What does wiggle mean anyway?

also, CRS just banned me from the wwii online servers.

Can't think why....

3. BULGARIAN DEVELOPERS - bulgarians is near russia on the map. Population, 344,000

Yeah, they truly must be the root of all evil. Never trust a country with less than a million people in it! They will probably come and murder all of us in our sleep. Stands to reason! And then enslave us and force us to play all these bad russian games. And maybe murder us again afterwards...

And Frans, don't get me started about Frans. He's from the Netherlands and that's not that far from Russia either! And pretty small as well. No wonder he keeps projecting these evil x-rays through the internet that try to take over our minds! Probably also playing Tetris all the time, to train his evil almost-russian intellect for taking over the world.

Tetris! A truly russian game, what with the lower blocks all fitting in next to each other so neatly, sharing the same space. And then the upper blocks fall upon them and oppress them and then, when everything has grown so big that there's no freedom anymore, you loose and probably don't even make the highscore. Yeah, a communist game to the roots... Beware!

...

Why is it that I always get the urge to write these sarcastic posts after I read something from frederickson? Maybe he's also projecting some x-rays after all (maybe he visited Russia in his youth or something). Now, where's that aluminium foil?

frans that is good feature but guess what, i think you are dumb, i think your famil yhates you, and i think some applesauce could go a long way

You are totally right. That had to be said and I'm glad that someone finally did. I didn't have the courage to do it myself, you know, but now that you brought up the topic I can finally let it out. This really is something that most readers of this site had to be made aware of and I thank you for doing so. I applaud your courage to say this aloud because I certainly couldn't have done it myself. Thank you!
So, let it be known that I totally agree with you:

Applesauce rules!

That thing about Frans, though, is total rubbish of course :D.
Stick with the applesauce, the vitamins are good for you...

Abydos.... isn't that related to Egyption mythology? I think it's the underworld/afterlife/whatever.

I don't think so. It wasn't in Serious Sam

I know you need a lot of artwork and voice acting, but besides that how much programming do you need? Isn't Epic taking care of most of the engine stuff?

Naah. 3DR claims that they have heavily extended and rewritten the Unreal engine. And if this year's E3 movie is any indication I believe them.

Makes you wonder, though, why they didn't build an in-house engine in the first place. If you think that they started out with the Q2 engine... but I guess you're always smarter in retrospect.

However, as long as that amazon.co.uk listing is accurate and it comes out in March I'll be happy

Who is Uncle Frans and why should I really care?

Frans is "the other guy who posts on BluesNews"

He's the one who comes up with most of the demo news posts and he usually makes the late night updates here.
Oh, and of course he's the one who notifies us when De Speltjesgarnaal (or however you spell that) does another wacky kickstart movie :D.

Anyway: Frans, congrats to you and the parents!

Do you have a suggestion for a worthwhile service to add to the site?

Ok, you asked for it. Don't say I didn't warn you afterwards

What I'd really like to see from time to time is a quick info about planned games. Just a short summary listing the name, acronym (if any) genre, developer, publisher (if it's been determined yet) and announced release date (if any) or a note if the game has been cancelled. Here's an example of an entry for DNF:

Duke Nukem Forever, DNF, FPS, 3D Realms, ?publisher?, when it's done

That would make it a lot easier to find out what happened to that game you heard a lot about a year or so ago. Or to find out what the hell this DAOC / MOH:AA / ... thing is that everyone is talking about :D. The database might also help to clear up the cases where two games with similar titles are confused (as has just happened the other day on these boards with Unreal 2 and Unreal Tournament 2).
It would also be nice to have an option that lists the games of a specific genre that are slated to be released in a specific month so that we have something to look forward to :).

I realize that such a database probably needs a lot of work to be maintained. Maybe it should only contain the high-profile games for a start.

And since you ask for ideas (no one said anything about reasonable ), here's another one. You could compute an "excitement factor" or "buzz factor" based on the number of times the game's name is mentioned in messageboard posts. That would pave the way for a top ten list of "games most talked about". Not that I can think of any situation where such a list would be useful, but maybe it's something to read when you're bored... or something

There. That's all that comes to my mind right now, but just wait until it's 2am here - I usually get creative around that time

He didn't hire loony, why do you think he left; to get paid for what he was doing for shacknews.

As I understand it loony *got* paid. However, there came a time when Blue wasn't able to continue paying him a reasonable salary anymore. So loony decided to take the job at Shacknews to cover all those inconvenient needs people have (like games and some place to play them in ... oh and a little food once in a while ... and all the other stuff).

The billion and a fraction makes people tend to read it as nine tenths - because, when a fraction is given, usually it's because you're more than halfway there. Right?

Where did you pick that up? Sorry, but fractions are used whenever something is not a full number. And even if you talk about "commonly used fractions": people use "a third" and "a quarter" all the time and both are less than a half.

Just admit that you were wrong and fell for the joke, so that we can all shut up and go home %).

Hehe. Look at it from EA's point of view. I'm pretty sure they are very pleased with the way this thing has developed.

1. They have the exclusive magazine deal. The magazine has paid EA for that, in some way or another. And I dare say it wasn't cheap.

2. The demo got "leaked" so many people got to play it before it was featured on the magazine CD. Good for EA.

3. EA *has* to show some initiative to prohibit downloading of the leaked demo, otherwise the magazine will probably ... not be happy. So EA contacts a dozen of the major sites and asks them to pull the link. Bad for EA?

4. The messageboards are bursting with outraged users that the download link is gone EA is evil and whatnot. That means everyone is talking about the game. EA is happy.

5. Many people panic and search for one of the "last few" mirrors that still have the demo, to download it while they still can. EA is even happier.

So, as long as the magazine doesn't opt out of their deal I think EA is very satisfied with the situation.

Maybe even the magazine is, because the publicity is also good for them. Some people won't find the demo on the "smaller sites" or don't care to search for it or simply don't have the bandwidth to download it. But they sure as hell are hearing a lot about this demo at the moment. I don't know if this compensates for the loss of "real" exclusivity, but it might. So maybe even they are happy with the current situation.

Anyway, I think you should all just relax a little and take it easy :D.

EA had to contact Blue, Blue had to pull the link (otherwise he would have lost his credibility) and you can still find the demo on hundreds of other places if you want to. Or you can buy the magazine in a week. Or none of the above. Whatever you do, there is no need to create another ultralong thread with flamings against Blue, EA and god knows who else
