hey but well be leaders in the broadband world by 2005 - Uncle Tony told us so

Uncle Gerhard told us the same. Which probably means that we will all be at the bottom of the statistics, come 2005 %). After all it is a widely known fact that politicians never keep their promises...

And anyway, doesn't german have those strange laws about not seeing blood come from human players on screen?

It's not just blood but essentially you're right. Games that are rated "too violent" are only allowed to be sold to adults. However, the law is enforced in pretty ridiculous ways sometimes - usually developers can just turn the blood green and write into the manual that you're fighting cyborgs and the game can be bought by everyone. That's what they did for the original UT and it worked.

They're just touring europe and some ppl turn up with CAMs to record. No one bothered to video it in the UK, but in italy and germany they have done.

That's probably it. I mean, UT was pretty big around here and the lan party scene is also quite healthy but I don't think that it's much different elsewhere. I could be wrong, though - anyone know about definite sales figures for UT in Germany compared to the rest of the world?

Whats disturbing is despite all the warning signs (expelled from school, doesn't get along with his parents, and so on) he still has access to firearms.

You're right. It was just in the news that his parents didn't even know that he flunked his final exam the year before. I mean, hello? If parents don't even know what class their son is in, what kind of family is that? They also didn't know that he had been thrown out of school and wished him "good luck with his exams" that very morning. Must have been a fine family...

The ironic thing is that the shooter was an adult. Limiting youth access to violent video games (even further) would have had NO effect for him. Unless you want to completely ban violent video games for everyone, that is.

The only schools I've heard of (near me anyway) to have something like a 'gun club' are military academys...

It wasn't a school club. It's a public sports shooting club that anyone can become a member of.

I agree, this is just a rushed cash-in like most Raven games lately.

How can a free compatibility test be a rushed cash-in?

And in case you were criticizing the full game: you haven't played the full game, so you cannot know if it will be a rushed cash-in or not.

For me the fact that they have taken the time to create a multiplayer test is an indication that it isn't that rushed, though.

Note that I'm not saying that it won't be a rushed cash-in, just that we cannot possibly know it yet.

What's in store for the multiplayer?

Craig Hubbard: Cooperative play. (...) nobody has really done a cooperative espionage game. We felt it would be more rewarding to fill an obvious void than to rehash gameplay you can get in dozens of other products.

Finally :).

If spec written HTML doesn't work in browser, it's fault in browser, not fault in spec.

It would be a rosy world if we could all just write "spec" HTML and ignore everything else. However, if spec code doesn't work for one of the major browsers (for a given value of "major"), do you want to send the users away with the words "Sorry guys, but this is a 100% written-to-spec website - if it doesn't work for you it's your problem"?

No, you have got to find a way around these problems. Yes, it's messy and it's every web designers nightmare but there is no way around it. There is no value in a HTML design that cannot be displayed.

I still wonder why you haven't yet done these steps Blue. It's not like will take long time to fix the errors. Maybe it's something to do with attitude as screwing the users and listening their whining probably gives more thrills..

Ummm, I dare say that Blue is aware of the existence of validators (having run this site for so long).

The problem with these things is that even if you have a 100% standard compliant website it still won't run well on some Browsers. All browsers have bugs (including interpretation of HTML in a non-standard way), some have more, some have less and most of them are different. The trick is to find a way to scoot around as many of these bugs as possible with the same piece of HTML code. And that is largely a try-and-error process that I believe Blue is currently involved in.

Don't despair Blue! - There is only a finite number of possible combinations

Why the change of team?

Probably because Raven had their hands full at the time. They were already working on at least two titles (JKII and SOF2) when development on EF2 started. I think it's possible that they declined because they had not enough resources to do another game.

Did your search for trojans include running Ad-Aware? Some ad "services" (Gator, for example) plug into IE to replace the ads on web pages with their own. Such an interference might be your problem.

On another note: if you consider switching over to another browser - I recommend Opera. The only browser I have ever used that did not seem like a Beta version
