(In DayZ thought, they shortly announced a updated standalone version that people brought into that is still, about 7 years later in a very early state. - I have not tried it in a year so could be wrong)
DayZ is actually in a good place right now. The new patches and maps (Livonia and especially the 3rd party map Namalsk) has added a lot of new players. I've ran into two people in the last week while playing that both had just bought their first PCs just to play DayZ. It's 23rd on the list of top current players at the moment on Steam. If you haven't tried it in awhile I think it's worth a look.
