Some of the people around here should unplug their internet for absolute privacy and not bother with installing an OS because clearly they're simply not that good at it.

I guess that the same people don't use mobile phones and use homing pigeons instead of e-mails or whatsapp.

And what's unreasonable about having an expectation of respect for basic privacy which is both a human right, and more importantly, need? People shouldn't have to read through pages of legal boiler plate to see if a company is spying on them. They shouldn't be permitted to do so in the first place. If it's all so harmless why don't they come out from moment one with a clear and easy to read disclaimer. At the very least the should be required to do that by law.

BY AGREEING TO USE THIS PRODUCT AND/OR SERVICE YOU HERBY CONSENT TO WAIVE ALL AND ANY RIGHTS TO YOUR PRIVACY. YOU FURTHER CONSENT THAT WE MAY USE ANY ALL INFORMATION WE ACQUIRE TO BE SOLD FOR COMMERCIAL USE AND/OR FURNISHED TO ANY GOVERNMENT AT ANY TIME AT OUR SOLE DISCRETION.

How many people do you think would be cool with that knowing they're living their life under a microscope. Not many.

So, how many homing pigeons do you have? Beware of the secret NSA cats force!

If you make and OS that requires people to Google for solutions online, you have failed at it.

In this case: stay away from Linux OS!

What I keep asking myself is what os is on your mobile phones? I hope it's not Android or iOS, because the spyware that comes with these is at least as obnoxious as Win10's is.

Don't worry, Android or iOS is okay because it's not MS.

Ah, okay then. *scratches head*

I also hate the spyware installed with Win10, but the os itself is great if you use something like ClassicShell with it.

Lemmy, David, Alan... 2016 is off to a terrible start. DAMN!

Oddly, they were all 69 years-old. So was Riley Martin, Howard Stern's late alien expert. Weird.

69 is the new 27 then?

Seriously, it's not good to see the legends pass away.

I wonder what people would say if Steam launched a similar subscription service

Steam can't unless other publishers allow it.

That is why EA has an advantage here: they are still making AAA games and can offer them in their subscription service.

Steam (or Valve) is pretty much out of making games. They can only offer their own old stuff and most likely lots of pixelated early access and independent games. The big publishers are closely observing how EA does with its sub service and will then decide what to do. Most likely they would offer their own subscription service via UPlay or Rockstar Club or whatever they got and Steam will get the short stick.

6. Re: Half-Life Writer Marc Laidlaw Leaves Valve? Jan 8, 2016, 11:08 El Pit

He felt lonely, sitting alone there since he moved his desk to the Half-Life (Episode) 3 group eight years ago. Everybody else was working on new TF2 hats, Counterstrike gimmicks, useless hardware and some operating system. Once he found out that Valve is no longer about making games, he left.

And it's even more pricey outside the US. A great market penetration is guaranteed and will make adaption a no-brainer. Then most game production will thankfully embrace VR and...

Ah, who am I kidding? Won't work this way unless they print an Apple on it, then it will sell even for $899 and will be THE thing to have in 2016.

Nothing changes for European customers... except for that tax evasion move of Valve by moving to Luxembourg!

I think you misread the notice. The bulk of their business, digital content and services, is moving FROM Luxembourg to their main US entity. While the hardware side of things is now being handled in Luxembourg, which is a lot smaller part of their business.

I see. I just read the whole notice on Steam. The move back to the States is a good move for the US and a good move by Valve/Steam. But for their hardware business in the EU, they will use the tax shelter. *sigh*

That European Union... is just so ridiculous. You can watch Luxembourg's former prime minister Juncker in the European Council talking about how all tax shelters will be brought down and meanwhile in his country he has been working on tax evasion schemes to screw over the other European countries. Politics at its best.

The only thing they are ducking away from is more European Pro-Consumer laws. Note they said they will "with respect to RELEVANT European laws" So in other words only what they want to follow or what is court ordered after a lawsuit which is a bit harder to accomplish over here.

Wrong. They are mostly ducking taxes. Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Ireland, and a few other countries in Europe are offering tax evasion schemes to companies to lure them into their countries. This way the people in Europe get the short stick.

See? It's all about making more PROFIT! It also means that there is no such thing as a European "Union". It's just a pipe dream of some politicians.

Yeah, cuz Luxembourg is not in Europe! That will show those Europeaners.

Learn a bit about taxes and Europe before posting. I give you a hint: taxes in European countries differ a lot. Now read a bit and try again.
