Yeah, sure, thats how good changes in the past have always happened, huh?
If enough people get angry, changes happen. They wont get angry if they keep themselves numb with any kind of addiction.

“Fear is the path to the dark side. Fear leads to anger. Anger leads to hate. Hate leads to suffering.” – Yoda

Good luck. I mean it. Take your boulder, Sisyphus, and have your go. Making people overcome fear and egoism is as much a realistic goal as walking from Earth to Mars by foot.

Yes, I like being lulled. It's better to have fun with games, life, and whatever you do than actually take a step back and analyze what is really going on. It would be the fastest way into a clinical depression.

And also coincidentally the fastest way to solve "whats really going on".

No it would not. You would find out that human beings are just apes with less hair and that they talk about changes that they neither REALLY want or would accept. And therefore, it's the fastest way into a clinical depression. It's better to accept that we are animals and adore every sunbeam and everything beautiful nature is throwing at us.

EDIT: And to enjoy games, of course. How could I forget about those?

Suppa7, Marx would slap you in the face and tell you that games are just another opium for the people and that he therefore condemns playing those games because they are a means of oppression, to lull people who would otherwise fight the oppression.

Yes, I like being lulled. It's better to have fun with games, life, and whatever you do than actually take a step back and analyze what is really going on. It would be the fastest way into a clinical depression.

Brumbek trying his best to justify what he intended to do from the beginning... Obvious.

Brumbek orders a pizza. The pizza is not okay, so he asks for a refund. Problem solved.

Brumbek buys a game from Steam. The game is not okay. so he asks for a refund. Problem solved.

But Brumbek says Nooooo, not good enough. I need to eat at least half of the pizza, ahm, play hours of the game.

Dear reader, judge for yourself.

There is actually one reason I can accept to pirate the game: if the game is not at all or only in a censored version available to you and cannot be gifted or in any other way activated by you. Which means: the idiots don't want to sell the game to you but to mostly everybody else. Then a pirated copy seems to be the only way you can play the game you would otherwise pay for.

I just don't know who to trust anymore!

Are those dang dirty pirates ruining life and taking away diamond-encrusted swimming pools from executives?!

Or does piracy give players a way to test game releases before buying, which also lets players decide on the quality, which means players will actually buy more of the good games?!

Do I side with the dirty pirates or the evil corporate overlords!?

Brumbek - there are exactly how many gameplay/let's play videos out there per game? Enough to check the quality of the game? I'd say so. In addition, there are boards like this one and plenty of others (like over at the steam - the boards are FREE) to check out the players' opinions. And the "But... but... maybe it won't run on my machine" reason has gone with the return policies over at Steam and Origin PLUS again, the videos and boards all over the web. No, pirates are no longer needed, BUT I still prefer GOG for the hassle free (mostly) no DRM games. Games for Windows Live (Rot In Hell!), Rockstar Social Club, and so on IN ADDITION to the already present DRM like Steam, UPlay, Origin, are a real pain in the ass.

So, basically a Star Citizen thread is as successful as a thread with a title like "Terror Hitler Fucking"?

Roman Polanski to his wife: And stay away from anybody who calls himself Chris Roberts. This guy is DANGEROUS. I know what I'm talking about.

Or, to put it in other words: I'm not sure it's appropriate to compare the guy behind some very cruel murders to a blown out of proportion computer game. And this is coming from somebody who for sure is not really politically correct, guys.

jacobvandy wrote on Jan 29, 2016, 22:34:
I can see the co-op story being decently fun, but they absolutely destroyed any promise this game's multiplayer might have held. The original announcement made it look like a single huge open world with many players wandering around in it, with the potential for tense PVP engagements. Basically DayZ without the zombies.

Instead, they have completely separated the PVE and PVP components of the game, and you will never see anyone outside of your group in the story world. You have to opt in to visiting the 'Dark Zone' which is like the Peewee's Playhouse of open world PVP.

There's no risk in it at all, you go into the area with what basically amounts to a checkpoint save of all of your progress and loot you've gathered up to that point. You don't lose your gear or items when you die, there's no permadeath, and you don't even lose "real" XP. DZ has its own XP bar and levels, its own currency, and the loot you find there is only in danger of being lost if you don't manage to run away to an exit or send it off at one of several extraction points. After that, it's safe forever, just like the rest of your stuff.

No risk means there's no excitement. You have to go to the Dark Zone if you want the best gear in the game, but all it takes is a lot of friends to back you up or a lot of luck to get in and out without being ganked. Just keep grinding it enough and eventually you max out your kit, which can never be taken from you.

In other words, they completely missed the point of what makes open world survival games compelling, or else they second-guessed themselves and decided to cater to all the carebears out there who can't withstand any real challenge or consequence.

The things you criticize (basically that it is not DayZ) are actually pros in my opinion. I never really tried DayZ after hearing, reading, and watching how DayZ was (is?) infested by people who work in groups to just shoot and loot other people. It didn't look like fun to me. Of course, this makes DayZ hardcore survival, but here we are looking at a game that is trying to appeal to the masses, not the tiny fraction of hardcore gamers. In the end, there is still DayZ for hardcore survivalists and games like this for people who like some survivalism but without the frustration that comes from being shot a few mintues after being spawned in the game.

I'd play The Division for the pve part only, by the way. I hope it's good. If the reviews are promising, I will buy it.

I'd assume they are releasing free weekends as a "Fuck You" to all the haters. Good for them, because honestly.. fuck you

If you don't like it, don't buy it and move on.

But the only Fuck You that would work would be releasing the complete game, or, as it is now, games. Or episodes and the MMO. Or whatever it will turn into during the next few years. Or the next decade. Or century.

When is it ever enough for the psychopaths of Wall St.?

There is no "enough". Human greed knows no limits. And our economy in the western and a lot of the eastern world are based on the principle of unlimited, neverending profit growth. Everybody with half a working brain knows how stupid this idea is, but we are so entangled in this system we have invented that we cannot find a way out. Of course, there are MANY ways out but those would include some kind of waiver, and the very moment this becomes clear everybody will go "no - then it is not the right solution" because greed always Trumps waiver (and reason).

When I browse this site on my android, I get something similar, too, from time to time. I get some window popping up, too, or get automatically transferred to another ad infested site. It's sad but there is no trustworthy online ad partner. Not a single one. They all pull something like this off from time to time.

It's funny how unprepared yet willing people were to become an 'investor' in something they have essentially no control over and no patience for. These threads read like a rehab group for junkies.

I give zero sympathetic fucks for anyone who backs any crowdfunded project, but it's fun to watch you guys squirm and whine about "broken promises". There is a reason they don't rely on or believe "promises" in the real world and require everything in writing with deadlines or you lose your funding.

I will keep saying this... CIG should simply refund every kickstarter backer and just keep the other 97% of the money people gave them through their website with no obligations what-so-ever.

Then the impatient whiners can just shut the fuck up already.

The fun were the white knights. Seeing them working as spin doctors for free for CIG was the biggest fun, but it seems that the number and the strong belief of the white knights are both dwindling.

Blade Runner squeal? Please keep George Lucas and JJ Abhrams away from it please (like 3 continents away).

A sequel to Blade Runner is so unnecessary. But if they really have to do it, at least they should have a better screenplay than The Force Awakens or Prometheus.
