They're just Android APKs, of course they have backward compatibility, that's not a feature.

What does that have to do with guaranteed backward compatibility? We have 3 Android devices in our home, an older tablet, a Galaxy Nexus and a Nexus 7 with tegra, and we run into apps that run on only some of them all the time.

Making sure older games run on newer versions of the Ouya will not happen by itself. Of course, given the open nature of the platform and the simple approval process, it may not happen at all and may be left to individual developers to make it work or not.

The real issue I see here, is Microsoft now classic reaction to the problem: flat out deny it exists first, until that position can't be maintained in the light of mounting evidence and public protest.

I may be dreaming, but it would be nice one of these days (and would engender better confidence in the company) if they would initially react to claims of a problem with something like "we've can't confirm it yet, but we're looking into it".

Would be nice if they have a version of the manual without the background image on every page. As it is, printing it would waste a ton of ink to render the background, and my e-book reader is veeeeerrrrrryyyyy slllloooooowww rendering each page. Probably looks great on an iPad, though...

Wouldn't the IP rights have remained with the publisher? If so, how can a few guys keep working on the game if they have no rights to it?

As long as the guys kept working on it in their basements, I doubt that anyone cared about who had the rights to the IP. Once Pitchford got involved, he presumably made sure Gearbox bought the IP.

"3D gaming could be coming to consoles, even before the next generations are due to arrive."

WTF? 3D gaming has already come to this generation of consoles. The Avatar game may not be a great game, but it does do 3D on both the PS3 and the 360.

Just like in the case of the first game, I don't see why the widescreen version should necessarily have a wider FOV. That is certainly one way to do it, but keeping the same FOV as in the 4:3 version seems like a valid design decision, if that's what they wanted to do. I certainly wouldn't call it a bug, or claim that widescreen support doesn't work properly.

Blue, Serenity is essentially a high-budget series finale for Firefly, so you really shouldn't miss it. Glad you enjoyed the series.

Fascinating article, but something makes me think that Blue may have mis-tagged it...

"MGS4 print reviewers asked to not disclose install time, cut scene length"...

On the other hand, once they disclose that they've been asked not to disclose some stuff, doesn't it make MGS4 look even worse?

Activision announced today that the song packs for Guitar Hero II on Xbox Live Marketplace have exceeded 650,000 downloads. This makes them multi-platinum, as defined by the music industry's RIAA.

Which would make sense if one of the packs had sold over 650,000 copies, but since they're looking at the total sales figures for 5 different packs, this is nothing more than marketing BS.

I remember when the PC version was the one to play, with the consoles getting a dumbed down experience. Those were the days. I played it every week with my buddies on the big TV, using 4 sidewinder gamepads daisy-chained together.

I was shocked in the early 2000s, (the year they released the first xbox version I think), when I turned on the PC game and saw what had happened to the menus... huge fonts everywhere, half the options gone (including no more user profiles to save your personalized prefs and stats)... I felt like crying. As of last year, that stuff still wasn't back.

11m faulty 360s? But they've only sold 12m! Not every console is faulty, you know ...

Depends on your definition of "faulty". Since they admitted they had a design issue (as opposed to a manufacturing issue), I'd argue that every unit built up to a certain date is faulty, even if it hasn't shown symptoms yet.

BTW, my 8-month old 360, that I use on most days, is still going strong. I still think of it as being a ticking bomb.

Huh... the Elite was launched here on the same date as in the US. I know it's been rare on store shelves lately, but not enough to relaunch it.
