Don't work- they either have tons of accounts, or spoof their origins. It's really aggrevating to receive spam mail that was "sent from" your own email account.
And never- ever- click "Unsubscribe". All it does is confirm for the spammer that there's a live email at that address. You end up getting four times as much spam as before.
WHY do spammers think they're actually benefitting from spam mail anyway? How many people really click on those mailings?
The only way to stop spam is to make it such a hassle for spammers to send it that the loss of time outweighs any potential profit.

You should always run Ad-Aware twice in a row when you first install it- some of those programs are actually so persistant they leave stuff behind, even after Ad-Aware yanks them.
There was a recent new story (though I've forgotten the link) that now over 36% of email traffic consists of spam. In a year, it may be over 50%. Yikes- we need better spam filters, quickly. Enough spam mail can even take down servers as efficiently as a DOS attack, and it's still legal (sort of.)

Squirmer- we (the US) can't even figure out the best way to tax ourselves - how are we expected to be able to figure out what we should pay other countries?

Right, the record labels always cite that their revenues have gone down 7-15% since the last year, and blame pirates? Was there really a technology that emerged in the last year that suddenly made pirates run rampant?
No, what happened is poor economy- name one business that -didn't- have its revenues drop by at least 7%. But, since the RIAA is in complete and total panic mode, they're not about to believe it.
Putting copy protection on CD's is probably the surest way to kill the music industry, given how common computers are now, and the rise of mp3 players. "What? I can't rip this new CD so I can put it on my credit-card sized mp3 player instead of that bulky CD player that can't take any motion while I jog? Screw paying for that; I bet if I look hard enough, I'll find it somewhere online..."

So that explains why they were so slow to release the modelling plugins and such- worried that the community would already have better stuff out by the time their expansion hit the stores.
I'd already moved on to NWN by the time they released the plugins. Maybe I'll go back to Morrowind when I have more time...

Ever see Alienware's -really- high end systems? Apart from the innards (which are the best stuff out there), they include giant plasma screen monitors, complete top-of-the-line sound systems, etc. That sort of stuff tends to add up... that's where the $8000 goes.

"I counted the number of games that scored 9 or higher for the gamecube and for the ps2 on ign.com..here are the numbers.

cube.ign.com - 8
ps2.ign.com - 33 "

Huh? When you count the games out for the PS2 vs the games out for the Gamecube, you should notice there's a minor difference in the numbers- all this means is that the PS2 has more games that are high rated, not that all its games are better. It's also been out for a lot longer than the Gamecube. Try averaging the number of 9+ ratings vs the number of total games, see what you come up with then.

Kill the man with the ball = Smear the Queer. Oh hurrah for Political Correctness! "Queer" means "odd" as in "odd man out" in this case- the only one who has a ball. Shouldn't they really not be allowed to use "Kill" in this age of Zero Tolerance in schools? Sorry, just playing Devil's Advocate here...

Welcome to Blues News, JeffK!
No, Anarchy Online sucks. The interface is cryptic, the world, while pretty, is empty, and the economy is completely screwed up and unrealistic. (If I have to sell a helmet for 10 credits that costs me 10,000 credits to buy, something is blatantly wrong.)

Hmm, I'll by the stealth blimp theory, but not as a transport vehicle. Maybe an unmanned surveillance vehicle... Besides, when you see something in midair with no reference points at all, it's nearly impossible to tell the size and distance.

Sorry to go slightly off topic, but can we once again consider not letting "Anonymous" post on the threads? I mean no offense to the intelligent anonymous posters, but looking at the two highest post count threads (Tribes 2 and -especially- the America's Army patch) I see nothing but bile and hatred, which kind of counterbalances any contribution the rest of the anonymous posters would have...
Before you counter saying "Well, don't view anonymous posts", it won't work- the flames have repercussions from registered posters that cause echos through the whole thread.
What is it about anonymous posting that draws out all the purile morons who think that they can get away with saying whatever the hell they want because no one knows it's them... oh. They can. :/

Now that I think about it, I hope they figure out exactly what those blobs are- because they aren't unique to Camden. I see them all over the sidewalk in San Francisco, and I recall seeing them in other cities as well. Look for them in urban areas, I bet you'll find them too. They're not on the roads, mostly on the sidewalk, though I've seen them, rarely, on that yucky carpeting found sometimes in BART trains and school classrooms. It's one of the unasked mysteries of civilization, that no one really pays attention to (the only reason I remember is because I wondered what they were when I was a kid.)

My current theories are a) tree sap; and b) ... you know that really thick, disgusting phlemy gunk that gets hacked up by smokers, that's half spit and half tar? Well, what if it collects dirt and turns blackish and becomes those strange black spots? It certainly fits the location profile- sidewalks in urban areas where no cars drive, and smokers or bums would hack up #$%@! The crummier the area, the more spots, too...
Yeah, it's a lousy theory, I know- but do you have a better one?

I saw ball lightning once when I was in 5th grade, I think- was a rainy day at school during recess, and I was looking over by the metal jungle-gym, and saw two white balls float around it for about a second or two, then vanish. Weird stuff, and probably lucky no one was playing on the thing at the time.

"why BAND AIDS wouldn't have been a better name I'll never know"
Schnapple, it's because BAND-AID is trademarked (By Johnson & Johnson, I believe).
Don't talk to me about trademarks and copyrights right now, either- I'm fuming over the fact that a character's use of the phrase "Let's roll!" in a game I'm working on is a potential legal issue (thanks to the Tod Beemer Foundation). Our whole copyright/patent system is severely screwed up.

You know, I can't help but think that the RIAA's gotten exactly what it deserved. Their comment proves their cluelessness:
"Don't they have something better to do during the summer than hack our site?" asked the RIAA representative, who asked not to be identified. "Perhaps it at least took 10 minutes away from stealing music."

We used to have a family of scrub jays (almost the same as blue jays, except they live on the west coast) that would, bold as anything, walk over and take the dry dog food right out of our sheltie's food dish. At first they wouldn't do it when he was around, but when he got older and more lazy, they eventually realized he wouldn't get up from his nap and do more than the occasional "woof!" in their general direction.
It was rather amusing to watch the jays duke it out with each other- they're viscious little buggers, I think I saw them chasing away squirrels once, they certainly chased away most of the wrens and other little birds.

You know, half of these P2P measures are already in effect, and making it fiendishly difficult for people who want to copy stuff for legitimate use. For example, I don't have a DVD-rom, but my brother-in-law does, and I wanted to get some screenshots off a DVD I own to use for wallpaper. So we try on his new PC with WinXP. Every screenshot we take is black. It took him three months to find software which let him do this, all so we could take pictures of something we can already view on the monitor and turn them into wallpaper which we can view at any time.
And now the MPAA wants to hack into my system and wreck those screenshots of a movie I own? Or maybe someone's daughter's high school production of "Peter Pan" which I recorded on digital video? I can just imagine the poor kid, wanting to see her performance again, opening "Peter Pan.avi" and seeing some big cartoon hand flipping her the finger and a message saying, "Screw you, this is what you get for stealing from Disney"... (Wouldn't put it past Disney to pull that sort of crap either, if they could get away with it.)
BTW, the second bill they wrote would basically make it illegal to tape an episode of a television show and give it to your mother. Already this is becoming difficult- you know why Hollywood's pushing those boxes with digital recording (Like Tevo and SmartTV) so hard? Because they're stationary- you can't make perfect copies, edit out the commercials, and hand them out to your friends.
The Television Industry needs to learn what the dot.coms learned rather recently; selling ad space just isn't a profitable long-term business strategy.
