I've been thinking about doing just this for the last four years. However so far my procrastination has been extremely successful!

Personally I'm not pro or anti GameSpy I'm just very frustrated by the lack of innovation of this arena, thats everyone XFIRE, ASE, GameSpy, etc..

We could setup an OpenSource team to write a solution to fill this huge gap.

If you're interested, give me a shout!

I hear plenty of comments about 5.1 surround sound.
I play with headphones, are there headphones that support 5.1, or is this a really dumb question?

Went on to FileRush to get the game cache files I needed. Took 30mins to get CS1.6 working.

Tried to get steam working all Friday, never worked.

GO BITTORRENT!

The sad thing is I'm not surprised Steam is failing so bad...

Ever since the first attempt to do a Steam release this Jan I started to feel nervous.
Game developers are not enterprise software developers, I guess its that simple.

Steam, it being flakey with this much load I can comprehend, but the fact that steampowered.com is down is unforgivable, we have mastered for a long time how to serve up huge amounts of static content, yet steampowered is down. If Valve cannot complete this simple task, can we really expect the vastly more complex Steam to work?

NO

What makes me even more concerned is the possiblity that Valve will delay the release of Half-Life 2 to they can relase over Steam. Lets face it people, its Sept 12, Steam failed its first test in Jan, it has just failed its second test.. There is no way that Half-Life 2 is going to be distributed via Steam come Sept 30th.

Valve realize you're just gonna have to do a traditional release to good ol physical stores. Realize you're just a game developer and hire some consultants with experince with enterprise computing who will help you fix Steam.

You are a game developer.
