In all seriousness, systemd is invasive garbage that should never have been forced into the main distros.

It controls parts of Linux that it should have never have touched, and in some cases the only resolution to fix certain issues is to reboot. Fuck that, and fuck the guy that wrote it.

This is just downright greed on their behalf.

The BFG is such an iconic weapon and they know it, so they decide to hold it for ransom against a higher priced pack.

Fuck that.

For sure. I'm surprised they didn't wrangle something stupid with the Epic store, rather than crawling back to steam.

Metro Exodus will be using the Denuvo anti-tamper tech…

I guess that's a wait and maybe buy later for me then.

I just read through some of the documentation on what they're requiring, and for a lot of games it's nigh on impossible to achieve.

Personally, I can't fathom how some of the requirements are going to be achieved across different genres of games. Some will be more easily done than others, but there are games where it would be impossible within the framework of the game to achieve the requirements.

I mean, how do you achieve this in a fast paced FPS?

(i) Operable without vision. Provide at least one mode that does not require user vision.

The major problem with "regional" pricing is how some of us get screwed and others get a break. Why is it they give some regions breaks on game price - to combat piracy ostensibly - yet others of us like Canada, Aus, etc. get charged more than our American counterparts when we earn 30% less. That's price gouging - which is nothing new in this country anyway.

Glad to see NMS at the top. Those guys launched a turkey, but worked hard for two years to improve it. Glad they're still seeing sales this far along.

I picked it up when it first released, played a bit but got bored by about the 15 hour mark.

With the latest update, I've thrown 40 hours at it this past week and I'm still enjoying it, so I'm pretty happy about that.

It does still need a bit of work, and the interface drives me nuts with the console-isation, but overall it's a pretty nice game now.

What did these guys do right, that games like DayZ and H1Z1 didn't?

Even as far as shooters go, the one shot, no respawns king of the hill games were never exactly popular.

Personally, I'm stoked at their achievement, but I just don't get it.

I picked up the double dibs pledge for $50 on kickstarter because I've enjoyed all the Divinity games so far and my wife loved the first original sin.

Note sure when I'll get into it though, since I haven't finished the first one yet Clocked up 50 hours in it this week trying to get it finished before this released but it's just too damn big

Many of these practices wouldn't exist if we were actually close enough to these companies to just walk into their office and give them shit. Steam wouldn't exist if PC gamers had been physically close to valve HQ back in 2004 when he slipped everyone the poison pill that is steam.

Actually PC Gamers were screaming for digital distribution and steam delivered that. Hate on the app all you want, but they did one of the best things for PC gaming at the time, and compared to all the other options, both then and even now, they did it well.

That will work for about 5 minutes. The. They will register a new domain.

Thats assuming the affected website owner cares enough to bother.
On the other hand though, the users will just start using international VPN services more and more, bypassing the ip/dns blocks on those domains anyway.

Must admit, I'm happy to see that they've considered the actual cost of infringement to be similar to a speeding fine.
Though, they can range from $150-$450 AUD, so it's still not cheap, but much better than the $100K+ some of the US lawsuits started out at.

I'm curious about this one.

I've been watching it since it was going through greenlight about 18 months ago or something.
Been very little from the developers other than they were working on it and then a few months back about publishing via BandiaNamco.

The game, from what little I've seen still seems interesting though, but I'm going to wait until something shows up on youtube/twitch before I drop anything on it.

Nice. Just long enough after the release of the 1080ti that the hardcore types would have bought, to grab them again with the next great thing.

I'll have to check ebay for a cheapo 1080ti now, though here in AU, I doubt they're going to be terribly cheap anyway.

I only got back into D3 just before the current season started. A lot had changed since I last played a couple years back.

This was the first time I even played a season character, and I'm pretty happy that I had managed to get onto the leaderboards even though I wasn't really trying.

I think the necro will add another 12-18 months to the game, and from how it plays, I'd be surprised if they're even working on a D4. They could milk the game by adding a couple more classes and a decent story for each.

As for the primal ancients, honestly I was looking forward to the power creep they planned with them originally.

Oh well, I'll probably play through half the upcoming season then shelve the game until the necro is released.

10% tax for a digital sale. Government greed is real! That's not a reasonable tax. Mafia extortion tax by AUS govt. Notice how they hide the tax in the sale. My guess the AUS govt won't want it shown it in the receipt to cover their greedy hand.

Yes 10% will strongly encourage people to buy keys from 3rd party sites. Governments are always dealing with the unintended consequences of taxes and regulation. This will be no different.

It's not so much government greed, in that it's the government catching up with the digital world. GST was always a thing, however the lower limit (GST free threshold) was about $1000.00AUD on imported items, they recently dropped that to I think $30.00AUD, if not zero, I don't recall.

Customs would typically recover the tax on imported items exceeding that value (over $1k), but digital doesn't go via customs, so the online retailer needs to handle the transaction with the AU govt.

Since the inception of the 10% GST in AU, it was always stated that any advertised prices would be inclusive of the GST.
So when I go to buy a new TV and it's advertised at $599, that includes the tax.
On the receipt/invoice, it *must* show the GST component. That too is written into the law.

As for steam directly, if for example the list price doesn't change, then it won't make a whole lot of difference, however for publishers like EA/Bethsoft etc.. that continually add between 20-50% for sales in AU, then they will certainly see lost sales in favour of 3rd party key sellers.

On that note: I think G2A is still accepting bitcoins, of which the price has gone up a lot recently, so I'll be more than happy to use them for future purchases.

I'll throw in my 2cents worth here.

I've had the game for a while now, as something else to play with the wife in a co-op manner.
I set up a local linux server to host the game and we just go from there.

As an admin, it's more than a pain in the ass to first get it working, then manage all of the extra stuff (mods and settings), however there is a really nice windows server manager if you're hosting on windows instead. So I would recommend that option first.

The game itself if really good, but you certainly need to tweak the speed at which you can gather resources and such. The vanilla game stats are atrociously low if you're only 2-3 people playing on a server.

I paid for the DLC, and got to spend another good 80-100 hours playing that, so I've certainly had decent value for money as far as I'm concerned.
I don't particularly care about all the reasons behind the DLC and shit like that. It was a good expansion and I was happy with it.

The actual program itself is still poorly optimised however. You can throw hardware at it to a point, but I'd suggest dropping the settings until you get a relatively smooth play state. They still have a lot of work to do in this regard, however there have been a lot of improvements over the last couple of years, so it is getting better.

The game itself is always interesting to start again too. Much like I've been doing with 7DaysToDie over the last few years.

Play for a month or so, achieve most of what you can in the game, then set it down for a few months while playing something else.
Next time you fire it up, do a clean start, different map and mods perhaps and go fresh.

TL;DR.

There is certainly some dodgy shit happening around the game, but it has been worth what I've spent on it, and then some.
I would recommend it if you're into the survivaly/crafty type games.
