News Comments > On Videogame Safety

6. Re: On Videogame Safety Nov 7, 2019, 00:50 Grokk

On the topic of "Thai teen gamer who was found dead of an apparent stroke".
There has been a few of these over the years, and I've never really heard about it after the initial clickbaity headline.

I wonder how many of the people that have died while gaming all night were hyped up on caffeine drinks and the like, and what part that played in their demise?

It's fine to say "game dies after gaming all night", but it would be better to know if it was really something else that caused it.
ie: "gamer dies after drinking 17 redbulls in 4 hours"

I've always use the black (retro) colour scheme.

The Launch Links option was always useful too, but now that I can middle click on links, it's not so much a requirement anymore.

1500 RAGE Coins ($15 USD)
2000 RAGE Coins ($20 USD)

Wow!! I'm glad they're selling RAGE Coins in the following pack sizes so I'm not wasting money to buy an expansion pack.

500 RAGE Coins A$7.95
1100 RAGE Coins A$14.95
2500 RAGE Coins A$29.95
4500 RAGE Coins A$52.95

Unfortunately I can't see the USD prices, but that doesn't change the fact that you can't buy an exact amount for the upgrade.

FFS.

Crikey. I wonder how much this promo is costing Epic.

Who are the suckers buying Youngblood? That game is abysmal! Who allowed those shit devs to release a game like that and call it Wolfenstein? What a disgrace and an insult to pc gamers.

It's currently one of the two free games that come with nVidia cards. I'm not sure if those numbers are factored in to this list though.

Snapped up a Rog Strix 2080ti yesterday at 35% off, primarily due to how quiet it functions and in preparation for my next purchase... a 3440 X 1440 120hz WQHD ultrawide monitor (my 980ti struggles at 1440p these days).

So this news is good for me at least, but not unexpected due to the performance of the other Super cards and the 2080S Final Fantasy benchmark leak from a few days back.

Good for me too!

I went all in last week and got the 2080ti and i9-9900k.
Before buying, I did a lot of research and spent hours pouring through garbage from fanboys on both sides, but in the end I decided to go Intel solely because of the motherboard and single core speed.

I felt dirty dropping $6k AUD on a new PC, but I got 7 years out of the last one, minus a couple video card upgrades at an average of 6+ hours a day usage, so I think it'll be a worthwhile investment.

That is a much better use of their cash.
They may well even see a return on that investment too.

5. Re: GOG Galaxy 2.0 Closed Beta Jun 25, 2019, 02:53 Grokk

Personally I'm quite interested in this.

I know there was a thing a while back with accessing your steam games from Gog Galaxy, but that never worked for me.

I'm interested to see if they can actually bring it all together, so all the games I have across steam/egs/blizz/origin/ubisoft and Gog do really come together into a single library.

If they can do PS/XBOX/Nintendo as well, that will also be interesting.

The ~3 people per country who have the computer to run Cyberpunk 2077 at decent framerates with ray tracing enabled will be ecstatic.

I know I know, future proofing, planning for release and post release computer stats, etc.

I'm in the market to be one of those 3 people for Australia. Looking at all the hardware just makes my head hurt nowadays though, so I'm thinking I might actually buy a pre-built system for the first time in my life.

There used to be a time when I would see "Developed by id Software" and I would take a serious look into the technology.
I'm afraid that time has long past now.

Good on Ubi for giving this a shot, but I'm not sure it's going to gain a lot of traction.
They do have some seriously good games in their catalogue, and there are a lot of different genres, but so many of those games are well out dated now.

I guess if you had to pick a monthly service to subscribe to, it wouldn't be the worst.

Not really my cup of tea though.

This looks like it could be a lot of stressful fun in coop.

I was watching a few streamers playing coop the other night. It was hilarious how disorganized and disfunctional they were.

Not sure it's really a game I would play, but I'll certainly watch a bit more on twitch.

For ancient, crusty neckbeards who refuse to update or use an distro released after 2005.

In all seriousness, systemd is invasive garbage that should never have been forced into the main distros.

It controls parts of Linux that it should have never have touched, and in some cases the only resolution to fix certain issues is to reboot. Fuck that, and fuck the guy that wrote it.

This is just downright greed on their behalf.

The BFG is such an iconic weapon and they know it, so they decide to hold it for ransom against a higher priced pack.

Fuck that.
