Epic didn't make Unreal 2 and aren't providing patches for the game, so the point of the Unreal 2 complaints in a thread about UT2003 would be...?

The bonus pack with the new announcer voices is coming from Epic, not Digital Extremes. No word on when it's out, although they are testing it now.

Apparently Blue defines "firestorm of controversy" differently than we do.

While the vulnerability may very well exist, The Register is known to trade in rumor. I think you might want to get verification from a second source or at least comment from Gamespy before running a story like this.

If you want to be picky, it's actually called Renegade, not Renegades. I only mention it because Blue always put TRIBES in caps.

A shame this game didn't do better. It was actually a neat twist on the C&C concept.

I can't wait till Rogue Gearbox Ritual finish this game.

Or maybe I can.

Faking ragdoll physics with a lot of canned animations seems like an awful lot of work. Dunno if it's really worth the effort, but the development of this game has been a bit bizarre right from the get-go.

It's always kind of bugged me that Blue sorts games that start with "The" under "T". It's generally accepted that you sort by the first letter of the proper name, not an article. I missed a number of reviews for Morrowind when it first came out because they were listed under "The Elder Scrolls: Morrowind", not "Elder Scrolls: Morrowind" or plain "Morrowind". It's a nitpicky point, I suppose, but any librarian that sorted titles that started with "The" under "T" would be shot.

however I fear that when those fucking Sierra BASTARDS fired the entire DevTeam a week after they completed Tribes2, that this great notion for a game died with the termination of the team

Actually, it was Vivendi that closed down Dynamix and it happened four months after Tribes 2 shipped. Sierra had even more people laid off than worked at Dynamix.

What I don't understand at all, is that Sierra offically dropped support and future updates for Tribes II (correct me if I am mistaken)

You're mistaken. Sierra has never dropped support for T2, although it took a lot of internal lobbying to get the last patch out (there was a gap of about a year between patches). GarageGames, which has several key ex-Dynamix people, did the work on the last patch.

The patched version of T2, with about 30 new maps, the Classic mod and Team Rabbit 2 added, has been re-released in jewel case format for about $10.

The next Tribes game won't be developed directly by Sierra, but done under their supervision by a third party developer, much the way that 2015 did MoH for EA and Raven did JK2 for LucasArts.

Oh, and the patch (topic!) also has some very good fixes and improvements. Epic clearly didn't take the time to strip the console-ish roots out of the game before shipping (mostly interface issues), but I'm glad to see they're doing it now.

Actually, only half the bots on a server will show up as players in UT2003. Typically if there are 3,000-4,000 players, about 400 or so will be bots.

The Gamespy stats can be misleading. Some games will rise and fall dramatically depending on the time of day. Both UT and UT2003 experience this, peaking near the top of the list and falling near the bottom during their low points of the day.

id Software does not own the copyright on gothic castles and similar imagery, but I suppose since they did it first, people will forever accuse other companies of ripping them off. Gothic castles and demonic imagery existed even before Doom and Quake. Shocking, I know.

Schnapple is bang on with acceptance. A lot of people are very reluctant to give up on their favorite shooter and try something new -- this seems especially prevalent with the DM-style games like Quake and UT.

If you don't like UT2003, that's fine. I think it is flawed but still quite enjoyable. Double Domination is a terrifc game type. I don't see the need or value in insulting people who do like the game, but I suppose that's part of the whole trend toward unfettered hostility that is the Internet.

jman128, you already posted your thoughts and said you gave the game all of 15 minutes of your time, which I would think is not really enough to fairly evaluate an RTS. Then you come back and post again as if you're trying hard to convince people not to buy the game. Relax, guy, you don't like it -- that's fine. It doesn't mean you have to keep coming back to the thread and convince others to dislike it as much as you do.

Could of, would of...What's funny is that he writes "would have" and "would of" in the same paragraph.

On the topic, there seems to be a lot of games that were supposed to ship by year's end that are being delayed. I guess it's a good thing, since it means the publishers are letting the devs take the time to (hopefully) finish their games before actually shipping them.

The game has only been out for a week and a half, it will take a little more time to build up a playerbase. The system requirements are also higher, which may be dampening sales. The game itself is good and runs fine for me.

Devster, if you use the latest IntelliPoint software for your mouse, you can use it to assign mouse buttons for specific programs. For example, my fifth mouse button is assigned to F12 for UT2003. I-game, I assign my TL to F12 and it works fine with the mouse. Built-in support would be better, but this works and since it's program-specific, it doesn't affect anything else.

Someone from Blizzard was actually working on the Linux patch. I assume it will be a separate release.

The full patch released today will work on either a clean install of T2 or the last patched (current) version.

The repackaged T2, including the update, is expected to sell for $10, not $20. Should be out in two weeks or less.
