Don't forget the random apostrophe in the middle of a name or word. I'm Jimba'Tan, from the land of Naz'bingo!

I kind of wonder if Atari doesn't announce these things as D&D titles to get internet geeks interested, then remove the license references to avoid having to pay WOTC. Eh, Atari is such a horrible steward for the D&D license. Hopefully WOTC will pick another publisher for it sometime soon.

Unfortunately, the HardOCP benchmarks show Nvidia's 400 dollar card outperforming ATI's 500 dollar card in Doom3, so I'm not sure if them cutting prices would help all that much.

What are you, kidding?

The answer: $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

Neither of these games will be a failure in Atari's eyes if they make money, and they both will regardless of quality.

Well, I, for one, enjoy reading the same interview three times in a row. Gotta feel for the guys, though; I imagine all the interview requests are overwhelming, and they just thought that they'd get the big three sites out of the way first, and it all came out sounding the same.

I'm still not sure what I think about that 55 dollar price point, though. I'm sure it'll sell gangbusters regardless.

Yes, Carmack has previously said he was tired of the work load and looking towards moving on once Doom 3 came out.

Hopefully he's changed his mind.

Well, this is the guy who brought a workstation on his honeymoon. I have a hard time imagining him ever giving up programming for good.

Nice site, though. As someone who writes text-based walkthroughs, I can see the virtues of a system like this. Although sorting through screenshots (my least favorite aspect of my job) must be a difficult process for him.

Oh, yeah, just me. Check out the forum threads over on Novaworld.

Just me and my little problem caused 1500+ replies on router/connection issues to Novalogic. And there plenty more of that nature on the technical forum: people who have to uninstall their antivirus software before they play; people who have to delete their cache before they can connect to an online game; people who have to open up IE and manually login to Novaworld before they can play, etc.

The game works fine for some people, agreed, but again, this router works for every single other online game I've ever played, whether they're behind matchmaking proggies like battle.net or MMORPGs or what have you. It's Novaworld that's at fault if they can't make a router with updated firmware work, or force me to open up 30,000 ports on my router to get a valid connection.

Thanks for your helpful suggestion, though.

I'll be the guy who still can't fucking connect from behind his router that works fine with every other fucking game on the fucking planet. Jesus, Novalogic, get it together.

Re: DVDs Jul 14, 2004, 12:07

I think the popularity of CD-RW drives pushed back the inclusion of DVD drives for a while. I mean, when CD-RWs fell under 100 dollars, they started to become standard options on Dells and Gateways and the like (which are always the systems that are going to dominate the decision making processes of publishers, who would be the ones that decide to put out a DVD edition of a game). But since DVD-RW drives at that point were still in the 300+ range, and most systems would only ship with one optical drive, most people would obviously choose a CDRW drive over a DVD-ROM. Now that DVD writers are falling under a hundred bucks, I don't think it'll take too long for most games to ship straight to DVD. I'd be very surprised if games in 24 months or so still have CD versions.

Got to love that auction. The Wolverine #1 picture is especially cool. Got to wonder why someone would spend so much time and money putting together a collection like that and then put it up for auction at a relatively low price. Guess he needs the money.

I haven't played MP in a while, but it was unplayably laggy when it first came out. I imagine playing on a LAN would be a kick, though. Hopefully this patch fixes it up a bit.

Nope, no router connection for me. I actually unblocked the ports that they say they use, as they say to do on their help site, but it somehow manages to lock up my router so that I can't connect to the net at all until I reset it. Shit's farked. I don't mind unhooking the router to play, but I can't do it all the time since two other people use it to hook up to the net.

Can you connect to Novaworld through a router now? Because I couldn't the last time I booted this up.

The multiplayer implementation is actually pretty well thought out. It's definitely not just a tacked-on deathmatch; they put some time into it. Unfortunately, as mentioned, the netcode is terrible, and you lag too badly to really make the game playable. Add to that the fact that you have to have an ubi.com account to play and it's not very popular. Most people see that and they don't bother, and, as it stands, I can't blame them. With some patches, though, it could be pretty fun.

This game has really grown on me since I got it. The vehicles aren't particularly well-implemented, and the size of the maps makes for some arduous trips back to where the action is, but it's still pretty fun. I generally find myself playing TDM more than anything else, but TKOTH is also pretty fun. I don't find Advance and Secure all that fun, mostly because most matches go up to the time limit without either team making much headway, especially on the 150-player maps. But still, it's a pretty fun game.

They need to patch the helicopters so that people can't continually drop countermeasures just by holding down the key, though. That kind of makes Stingers useless.

I've got to say I'm really surprised at how popular CoH is. I was fucking bored out of my skull the whole time I was playing it.
