Heck, get a 9500 Pro and do the software mod to make it a 9700. Same result, about a hundred bucks cheaper. I believe the latest PowerStrip has the mod you need, if you want to do this. You have to make sure you get a 9500 on a 9700 PCB, though.

I've always thought using cinematics to sell a game is a little disingenuous, but I guess Age of Mythology did the same thing with their movie theater advertisements (didn't they do one too?). I guess showing the in-game cinematics would provoke laughter, though.

Rayman 2 was one of the best games ever to come out on Dreamcast. I sold everything else except that, Crazy Taxi 1, and Soul Calibur. Hopefully this'll be good, too.

If a developer is trying to pierce my jaded gamer's heart, not releasing a demo is not the way to do it. Not not releasing a demo would be much more appropriate. I guess what I'm trying to say is that it's not an option not not to release a demo unless your game doesn't not suck.

You get nothing else that's playable - I'd love to see something that actually had some use, like one of the Black Isle collector's edition things, with extra items and stores. Maybe a disc with a couple of extra units or something?

Now, the pre-order for the new Zelda game has an idea - gives you a copy of the full Ocarina of Time game if you pre-order it, on a Gamecube disc. That's the kind of thing you have to do to make a pre-order worthwhile for me.

The main problem is that there's no skirmish mode; just the main quest. Once you get enough heroes to pick the ones you like, or make a superpowered one, it gets a bit easier. I personally like the Ant.

I'll gladly pay $3.33 per map, if those maps are professionally made and, what's more, playtested thoroughly. I agree that they should release a map editor, but I really, really doubt any of the products that will come from the community will be as good as the DICE stuff, for the simple fact that a map has to be perfectly balanced in terms of control points and material alloted to each side to make sure neither side has an inherent advantage. Since most amateur mapmakers don't have their own servers and 32 friends to playtest with, I have a feeling we'll be unwilling playtesters often enough once the map editor is released. Even then, I'm betting we'll see a lot of perfectly symmetrical maps, which are always realllly interesting.

I love this game. I play it probably a couple of hours every night. Hopefully these new maps won't be as imbalanced as some of the BF1942 ones; in particular, I think the Assault map idea needs a little work. Maybe make it so that the assaulting team needs to capture a flag to stop bleeding, and not simply contest it, or contest two of them. It always seems to me that playing Tobruk or Battle of the Bulge that the Axis has a bit of an advantage, since all they have to do is take over one flag and they will probably still have a sizable ticket advantage due to their head start at the beginning of the game.

Omaha Beach doesn't really apply to this, though, that map is pretty frustrating if you're the assaulter (allied). But damn, this game is good.

As long as the games industry keeps on producing the goods, we are all winners.

Right on. This is the distillation of my statement.

I know people are always going to be motivated to argue about something, whether it be nvidia vs. ATI, or intel vs. AMD, or console vs. pc, or great tasting vs. less filling, but man, I'd rather be playing Metroid Prime. I think I'll go do that, actually.

(If anyone's looking for a great gift idea, you can pick up a Gamecube and Metroid Prime and get a 20 dollar gift certificate at Best Buy, ending tomorrow. Nintendo is also offering a coupon for 25 dollars off a GC, and five dollars off Metroid Prime, also ending tomorrow. So I got that stuff, and basically saved fifty bucks. Good deal....)

Well, "these people" are both console owners and PC owners. You can't really have an argument with only one side that participates. I just find a lot of the arguments, including the ones in this thread, to be a bit trite and shopworn, perhaps because they're always rooted in opinions that are biased to begin with.

If it's fun, play it; don't try to convince someone else that they made a bad decision or bought something that's intended for children. I'm 23 and I love games! Regardless of whether or not PC games are more sophisticated, or console games are intended for wider audiences, a fun game is a fun game, and I enjoy all of them. Get into the holiday spirit, for pete's sake.

Ye Olde Console vs. PC argument - I can't tell you how much I chuckle at people who instigate / perpetuate these pointless things.

Here's a list of handy (and undeniable) facts:

1: Good games are enjoyable.
2: There are good games on every console system and the PC.

Lemma: If you think a game, or even all the games on a system are "bad", then that won't affect in the least the enjoyment of someone who thinks that they are good.

Since I own all three major consoles, and a few older ones, and a nice PC, I think it's odd how people who love to argue about this stuff seem to be so partisan about it. Newsflash! Games are fun! What's fun about arguing about stuff? No one's ever going to convince the "other side" that they're in the wrong, so what's the point?

That said, argue all you want, if you want to. I'm actually not even bothered by it. I just think it's silly.

edit: I moved the parentheses symbol.

This game will be 10 times better than the Xbox version if they get rid of that sliding objective bar that pops up every five seconds. I can't think of any "feature" that has ever annoyed me so much...all it does is tell you your current objective, but the thing is, it slides up when you stop moving, and slides down to be invisible when you move again (like the bar at the bottom of the Windows interface). Thing is, you can't turn it off, and what it tells you is easily found in the pause menu. It's an incredible visual distraction, and I find myself actually not wanting to play anymore (up to the Chinese embassy) rather than continue playing and be annoyed by it. I would've waited for the PC version if I had known it would be so tremendously irritating (assuming you can turn it off in the PC version!).

Edit: Aside from that, though, the game is actually really good. It's a shame when you have a game that plays great, but has one crippling defect.

P.S. You don't need to tell me it doesn't bother you; I'm aware that I'm in the minority here. But that doesn't make it any less of a problem for me.
