I think you mean to say that Microsoft's X03 event is taking place in the "south of Freedom", right? You're not some kind of communist, are you?

I've never seen a program so amazingly unstable, and I've seen a lot of unstable programs.

The thing seems to be simple and efficiently designed, in terms of how it looks, but man, is it ever style over substance. 1.0? My ass.

CD-Swap fix would be a nice thing. You'd think they could just eat the cd-copying, so long as everyone playing online had a valid CD Key, but I guess not.

I just didn't like the fact that you couldn't remap your controls. For someone who doesn't use WASD to move, that's a big deal; I wound up dying at the second group of enemies and uninstalled it.

Is there going to be a quicksave in the final version of the game?

Hopefully they've fixed the sniper rifle in this release. And by "fixed" I mean that they're hopefully not 100% accurate at any distance with no scope drift. I much prefer the vanilla BF / DC mode where you actually have to wait for a second to get a semi-accurate shot; at least it makes it more of a skill game to be a sniper, rather than just shoot, bring the sight down, shoot, repeat. On some of the open maps in the last version of EoD, snipers were insanely overpowered.

Looking forward to this. 30 dollars is ridiculous for an expansion, but I'll pick it up when it gets down to around 15 or so. I liked the mechanics of Generals; one resource, a couple of building facilities, and lots of unit upgrades. It's a simple game, but it's really fun for someone like me, who's emphatically casual when it comes to RTS games; I just like to see shit blow up, and Generals did that very well.

Yeah, that happens quite frequently. I usually found myself jumping backwards and hitting the button in midair.

Isn't this normally against the EULA of games? Most of the time they expressly forbid mods from working with their demos.

I think some of the footage is recycled from previous movies, but unless I'm mistaken, the CGI stuff is new. CGI is usually the most important part of trailers, since that's what we all really buy games for.

At first glance at the title, I thought this was some kind of weird baseball/hockey extreme sports game.

Wow, my account is a week away from being four years old. Do you ever commemorate the invocation of the comments system among the anniversaries, Blue? I still remember the killcreek .plan entry that started that ball rolling.

For what it's worth, you can pop-up all day long if it helps keep the site running. One man's opinion.

After reading Masters of Doom, and hearing this, you kind of have to wonder how many more games id as an entity has in them. I suppose such speculation is nothing new, though.

Yeah, I don't know. Going from DC to vanilla BF1942 seems like stepping into molasses. The tanks move so slowly; the sniper rifles have barely any ammo, etc. Nothing against BF1942, but it's a game that's been outpaced by its mod-makers, imo.

Frank Miller's 300 also deals with the subject rather well.

Trust me, the game is fucking beautiful. I helped write the manual (/brag), and I was really floored by how the game looked. I never played AoW2, so I can't compare the two, but it's a huge improvement over AoW. Runs like a charm, even at 1920 x whatever. It is 2D, but anyone who judges it solely on that...well:

And yes, it's a blast to play. Very fun. One of the few games I'll probably play after doing intensive writing sessions on it.

That does look pretty poor. I especially liked the city that looked like it consisted of modern skyscrapers built directly over a swamp.

If you disable all the special effects and run at 640x480, I doubt the game would be unplayable with these specs. Of course, without the shadows, it's hard to say what the game experience will be like compared to their intent.
