I loved CTF, especially in Desert Combat. It was fucking tough to get a cap, but when you did, you really felt that it was an accomplishment. I remember getting a cap on the big-ass desert map; Gazala I think it is, where I stormed out of the Iraqi base in one of their jeep vehicles and had to dodge helicopter missiles until one of my aircraft came along to bail me out. The Bocage was also especially fun.

In its favor, CTF distilled the action that's normally dispersed across a huge map into two loci where everything, by design, took place. If you're really hardcore about actually accomplishing something, then Desert Combat CTF probably isn't for you, but I always found it to be more exciting than vanilla Conquest mode. In my experience, Conquest usually winds up with one team dominating the other, which leads to a mass of newbs jumping ship to the better team, which leads to even more lopsidedness, &c. Evolution sounds like it'll just encourage this. It'll be interesting to see if they handicap the team that's on top after the first map. I'm not even sure what the point of holding scores over from map to map is, without the kind of experience system that Enemy Territory has. Maybe there is experience? That'd be cool.

I wrote the Jedi Academy and Call of Duty guides, in case anyone cares. I have to start writing guides for no less than three different games that come out over the next two days - should be fun not to sleep for the next week or so.

I like Farscape. Hopefully this will be good, though; they had some terrible episodes in their four seasons.

That Wright Propeller auction seems to be bad.

The link to the Patch is up, but it appears that it's difficult to access it.

I really recommend anyone who likes RPGs to try this out. The game has gotten a lot of bad press because of the bugs, but I had a fantastic time with it.

I seriously doubt it'll be on sale next fall, no matter what people have said. I think word of development kits being shipped would've leaked by now. And until dev kits get sent out, it's tough to imagine the thing is less than a year and a half away. I doubt we'll see any more consoles until 2006, myself.

I'm assuming that chat lag still hasn't been fixed? I could care less about everything else, since I only play Desert Combat.

I've been a reader for a long time, Blue. Not sure if that means anything, but I really like the new look. My one issue is the unsightly big blue space to the left of the banner ad on the main page, but that's not a big deal. But otherwise, very clean design.

Seriously. I had the Silent Cartographer on one of the Xbox demo discs; never felt the need to get the actual game. This demo might as well be the full game for me; you get the Warthog and get to run all hell over the island and the beaches.

What did they fuck up to introduce this devil-spawned monstrosity of a bug into the game? It was perfectly fine when it came out; someone said something, you saw the message right away. Around 1.2, I think, though, it got screwed, and it's stayed that way for well onto a year now. Just one of the many things about this game's shell design that drive me fucking nuts. Everything that surrounds the actual gameplay would make an average game too frustrating to play; luckily BF1942 is good enough to make putting up with the lack of a proper voting interface, etc. worthwhile.

I couldn't get my head around the fact that you only had one sidekick, and you couldn't even control him. It would've been better had they labelled it a multiplayer-only game, because the single player certainly wasn't worth 50 bucks. Since I don't play RPGs online, I would've saved my money.

It's newsworthy because Atari Infogrames initially didn't plan to let Troika release a patch. Now they seem to want a pat on the back for actually supporting a game that they rushed through development in the first place. I'm glad Troika'll get paid to make a patch. Here's hoping that they get to make a big huge game with the same engine at some point that actually lets you get to the higher character levels.

Sure I can read. Can you withdraw meaning from text? If you told your Mom, "I just fucked my girlfriend!" and she said, "Don't use that word in my house!", would you assume that it'd be alright to say "fuck" as long as you didn't tack on an -ed suffix?

As far as your topic of "ghetto fear" goes, my objection to the word has nothing to do with drugs - it's just sonorously unpleasant. I don't think games should necessarily be given titles by people trained in the high art of prosody, but I think they should be given names that are at least pleasing to say. (Whoever came up with "Divine Divinity" should be retired from their game-naming job.) I don't find the word "crack" very pleasant. And, to belabor the point, this means that I don't find the word "cracked" very pleasant, either.
