News Comments > Star Wars Battlefront Dedicated Servers
21. Re: Star Wars Battlefront Dedicated Servers Sep 21, 2015, 17:44 DangerDog

Co-op will be peer to peer, as was the Co-op mode in Battlefield 3.

Dedicated servers but not the kind a clan would rent out and call their own, nobody except EA will have the ability to tweak gameplay settings. No high-ticket servers or community based administration.

Clans will have to utilizes whatever party mode they enable, join on friend from your Origin friends list - however since the game is setup for two man fireteams joining on a friend most likely won't put you on the same team, just in the same server.

"skill based matchmaking" they made the same claim with Titanfall, the general hope was that cheaters would eventually be matched up with other cheaters.

I'm still convinced that to a greater extent it was Marcia Lucas that was the true hero behind the success of Star Wars and many other movies. I can imagine her being the only one to tell Lucas a bad idea from a good one.

The version I saw in the theater included an extremely short scene of Luke looking up into the sky with his binoculars and seeing an outline of the star destroyer, sort of hazy. It also included the full version of Leia kissing Luke "for luck" before swinging across the trench in the death star. I've never seen the full version of that scene ever again. Lucas tampered with the movies from the very start, he just went full retard on the special editions.

I only hate games where there are guns lying around but you're not allowed to even pick them up. I think they did a good job with the first one, there were some guns but you weren't very effective with them. It also helps to brake up the monotony of running and jumping everywhere.

If all the physical combat is devolved down to quicktime events then it'll be a pass for me.

Its worth 5 of my bucks at best, definitely not paying full price for this. Was really hoping they would make it at least semi-realism like the First Strike SW mod or the newer BF games with more focus on the first person perspective, instead of cranking up Battlefront's 2 Arcade to infinity and beyond. *Shrugs* Oh well, nothing I can do about it, so perhaps the winning move is not play it and move on.

A Star Wars Battlefield game would have drawn too much nerd rage from people moaning about it being nothing more than a reskinned version of BF4. Just look at BF Hardline as an example. They decided to pick up the "Battlefront" game franchise and thus they're hell bent on making sure it has no direct ties to Battlefield, even though I'm sure a lot of the game modes will have their comparisons.

What's going to suck is if they model future Battlefield games around this design of having matchmaking only with instanced dedicated servers.

It'll have dedicated instanced servers, you won't get any custom gameplay settings so no high ticket servers for team deathmatch etc.

The game comes out November 17th so you'll only have to wait another week before you see it in all the black friday sales ads, it'll probably be $47.99 at the usual places. That is if it's even worth considering.

What I would like to know is who took the picture of him in handcuffs and released it?

The focus of the story isn't on some kid who took apart a working clock and stuffed it into a cheap briefcase (he didn't make anything), it seems to be about muslims and islamophobia.

No, I'm not saying this teen is some master-mind genius that concocted this idea to generate a sensational story about "intolerance" of muslims in the US but his dad sure is.

Really want to see how they could have implemented speeders on such small maps, did they slow them down to a snails pace?

Looking for Command & Conquer Red Alert™ 2 and Yuri’s Revenge™?

Wow, you guys are loving Command & Conquer Red Alert™ 2 and Yuri’s Revenge™ On the House! The demand is so high that we need some time to cool down our servers. Command & Conquer Red Alert™ 2 and Yuri’s Revenge™ will return to on the house very shortly. Thanks for being patient!
They have to replace the exe?

Apparantly, they just used a warez release to circumvent the old safedisc protection.

Likely it's only thanks to the EU basically forcing Valve to offer some kind of refund policy which in turn pushes something like EA to have a better minimum as to what is acceptable with their games for fear of a refund backlash.

Pretty sure EA/Origin offered 24 hour returns before Valve offered up their return policy but yeah it all revolves around the EU rules.

Never in the history of gaming has mixing live action footage with a game been a worth while experience.

I disagree, C&C and Wing Commander games were awesome with the live action footage.

Okay, I'll concede to those games. Their mystery science theater 3000 quality at least matches up to the genre. The acting is always so awkward and cringe inducing, but you know it's going to be a horrific train wreck with this game.

I'm not a fan of online racing and I think this one is online only, I prefer to have the ability to reset the race when you screw up.

Never in the history of gaming has mixing live action footage with a game been a worth while experience.

link? also, give me a time in the video.

uh how about throughout the entire video, he's moving back and forth and just facing the general direction of the enemy while scoring hits. The gun is visually pointing in different directions but it doesn't seem to matter.

It may not be auto targeting but obviously there isn't any penalty from moving and shooting, if you tried to do that in Battlefield with an LMG you would just be chewing through ammo without hitting anything.

lol anyone who thinks that was autoaim shouldn't be allowed to use m&kb.

you should be forced to use a controller. you are not worthy.

couple of sections it looks like the aim point "jumped" to the target, I know I've seen this behavior with the space ship combat.

Muni broadband is the way forward.

Only if it's done right and in so many places they gone fucked it up, like in Utah where Google ended up bailing the whole mess out.

Even in places where they've seemingly properly implemented it you have political shills conspiring with the corporations to have the whole system unplugged, like in Tennessee.

It looks good, but he seems to be shooting people 500 yards away. He must have heat seeking bullets.

Probably on console? Looked like auto-aim.

And LOL those AT-ST's die from one full blast of whatever those machine gun lasers every player was using. Even turrets! I'm going to assume they don't have server options to turn off things like third person view (easier to see over ridges) or limit how many of a certain kit/class is available. Would have been nicer to see a new Battlefront to be at least semi-gritty/realistic than what I just saw in that video; everyone just running around like headless chickens holding down their machine gun laser. Here's the "First Strike" mod for instance, movement is slower, guns don't fire crazy fast, looks better in full FPS, AT-ST's don't die stupidly fast, etc.

Server options?

* There's no server browser
* Matchmaking only
* Instanced servers
* They even obscure player ping on the scoreboard

So if DICE decides Team Deathmatch rounds should last 10 minutes that's the way it goes, you can't have custom anything with regards to how the game plays.

Ahh crap, do I have to play this game in 3rd person in order not to be at a disadvantage?

My desire to play this just plummetted.

Probably with a console controller as well, it looked like aim assist was engaged and if not then this is even more casual than I thought.

Too bad DICE won't do the same thing with BF4 (although they have to a certain degree by not releasing night maps for last gen). EA already committed themselves with Hardline by selling "premium" on last gen.
