This is, in my view the reason why the PC market is in trouble. There has been no software created in the last ten years that uses the available hardware.

guy is living in a fucking cave.. where do they find these people and how in the hell are they getting hired

Nope, pretty much true from a business perspective. The failure is in adding real functionality to voice recognition and transforming the interaction process into something along the lines of HAL 9000. Cortana is just a gimmick compared to what's really needed.

If you play around with the Microsoft Speech API it's the same basic one that's been in place since Windows XP, maybe even Windows 98.

It's extremely crude compared to Google Voice recognition, same with text to speech.

I'm not talking about adding AI to computers, that's never going to be truly organic. It's an ginormous task to take on proper voice recognition but you should at the very least be able to dictate a letter or email using your voice by now with 98% accuracy and little to no training, it should be built into the OS.

As for the DLC for this game, DICE always has their main brain trust create the core game technology and then they move on to other projects (new Battlefield in the works) and hand off the DLC creation to a sub-group to churn out new maps using the existing modes in the game. Sometimes they get bold and add new modes but nothing too drastic and usually just carbon copies of modes from other games (kill confirmed, gun mode etc).

They'll tease people with screenshots of spaceships over the Death Star but it'll end up just being an alternate backdrop for the air squadron mode in the game.

Yeah, pretty much. The DLC "content" will be a few more blasters, maps and add nothing of substance. Then they'll probably add in a cash shop or something to try to milk a few more bucks. This game is easily the worst game that DICE has ever made. It's destroyed their reputation at least as far as I'm concerned. I've also told everyone I know to avoid this game and what a turd it is. None of them bought it after I described it and after they saw the horribad reviews.

No more pre-orders from EA ever again. I also won't be buying any game with DICE involved unless I see positive user reviews and them releasing a complete game from the start. Then again, with EA pulling their strings, I might see pigs fly first.

9 million people played the beta, if you proceeded to get the game you knew what you were getting was an extremely casual arcade shooter.

I enjoyed it for about 30 hours or so, only people who are OCD completionists would probably log hundreds of hours into it.

I imagine the lack of sales surprised EA though, I'm sure they thought they had struck gold with their sales projections of 13 million copies. They really seem desperate to increase "unit numbers" with how quickly they discounted the main game.

The movie was terrible. Seems dropping Force Awakens themed DLC at least doesn't associate this lacklustre title with the pile of theatrical faeces.

It's on its way to making a billion dollars in box office sales and biggest opening ever etc, but I agree completely despite the movie being a money making monster it just doesn't feel like Star Wars to me but then again I don't like the Star Trek reboots either.

/rocking chair creaks

I do find it extremely humorous how people are losing their mind over this decision, ditto for those clamoring for "clone war" content to be added to the game. It's not about milking the franchise either, there won't be a new Battlefront game focusing on either setting - the next Star Wars game will be a single player one being made by Visceral in LA and themed after Assassins Creed style gameplay, it's rumored to be set in the original trilogy too, you'll play Han Solo in his prime.

I think the idea of a stand alone game or movie focusing on Han Solo has completely lost it's luster after what they did to the character in the Force Awakens.

With the new return policy, the prices will be the same for the entire sale. No more flash sales, daily deals etc.
Makes sense, less gimmicky that way.

Yeah but it was a fun gimmick and generally many games went on sale for cheaper than what they currently are, someone said it had to do with the length of the sale. 24 flash sale mean that they could lower the price a little bit more than the week long ones.

I've impulsed purchased many games that I still haven't gotten around to playing. The worst is looking at a game on the website to purchase only to find out you already own it.

I know I'm a nerd, but I hate it when people use the term "reboot" wrongly. This isn't a reboot, it's a sequel; hence the unofficial name "Episode 7", and the fact that Ford, Fisher, and Hamill are (heavily advertised as) returning.

To me it feels like they're pressing ctr+alt+delete on the franchise at this point to start it up again. This is Star Wars franchise 2.0, obviously not remaking the original - well maybe but certainly the main focus is to get people re-interested in Star Wars enough to go to Disneyland and experience an entire portion of the park dedicated to it, buy toys and video games based around it and generally pay off their 4.5 billion investment.

I don't think they have the brain trust to fill in their world with semi-believable NPC's to interact with. The player cap is too limited to leave it up to players to generate emergent gameplay alone.

It always boils down to how do you fill in planet sized worlds with relevant and engaging content.

It's peer-to-peer networking, I don't think they even have host migration. Unless you're playing with friends in a closed group I've heard it's a pass.

I guess I am the only one in the world that doesn't really care about the new movie? I grew up on 4,5,6 - can't bring myself to make it through 1,2,3 - I get bored.

I will go see it when I can sit comfortably in an empty row and put my feet up without idiots in costumes and their cell phones.....

Nope, I consider myself a pretty big fan of Star Wars (4,5,6) and I'm feeling pretty non-pulsed about this reboot. Starting with the unnecessary re-imaging of the classic StormTrooper armor (they didn't improve on the original Ralph McQuarrie design at all) and with each "leak" of additional information makes it feel even more of an over managed Disney "product" to sell Star Wars merchandise instead of recapturing the lightning in a bottle feeling the original had.

I guess it's a winning formula for most people, more power to those who can accept the over commercialization of it all.

smearing more lipstick on the pig?

pretty sure it's the netcode or lack there of that's hampering this title the most.

Who would be you preferred director for Star Wars? Just curious.

I hated Into Darkness but I think that was less his direction and more the script. I'd love to see a Star Wars movie directed by Rian Johnson or Alphonse Cuaron.

George Lucas

If they had implemented offline single player people would have pirated the crap out of the game, we all know that's the reason it's not there.
