Having actually played original arcade machines most arcade games are more about the presentation, just emulating the game is only 1/3 of the equation.

So many machines had unique controls and other elements that made the experience worth while despite the crude graphics. Star Wars arcade machines with their pivoting flight yoke or getting inside a sit down version of Star Trek which was incredibly immersive.

Maybe through some sort of haptic VR system you could faithfully simulate a real arcade experience in the future, let's just stop at adding in the stale B.O. and cigarette smells.

same reason why they're focusing on street racing, because they're trying to get the Fast and Furious fanboys to buy it.

3. Re: Battleborn Support Plans; Open Beta Coming Mar 16, 2016, 16:58 DangerDog

How could they announce an open beta and that their backend service is still in beta when the game has "gone gold"... oh yeah, Randy Pitchford duh.

This looks like Borderlands retarded stepchild. I thought they were working on a WWII game that seemed like a takeoff from "inglourious basterds"; which undeniably looked stupid but not as bad as this game.

This idea that anything to do with VR has to run games on ULTRA settings @ 90FPS is really missing the boat. If that's the requirement then just call every one of these units dead in the water now.

Turn the settings down a little and tadaa, FPS. The worry about framerate is largely overblown and focusing on the wrong VR issues.

EDIT: I said do do.

This is acceptable for low end VR like Google Cardboard but when you're spending almost a grand for a VR headset it's going to be a hard sell to get people to lower their graphical expectations to the level of "Money for Nothing" Dire Straits music video from 1985.

People are already flipping their lid over AMD saying that this VR system offers "console quality" graphics.

Yummy. Since you're packing around a PC and power supply on your head, I have to wonder about weight with this one. Looking forward to reviews though.

some off hand impressions come to mind - heavy and hot, extremely uncomfortable.

you won't have to worry too much about all of that because the battery won't last more than 30 to 40 min most likely.

it'll be interesting to see the SAR rating for this as well, I would think having the computer box hip wearable would be safer.

Are they stating what size the screen will feel like in this mode?

I think this isn't a virtual cinema but a program that renders traditional games into paired stereo screens for VR headsets. The problem is with almost all games you don't have freelook or head tracking separate from your body - it makes for a less than optimal VR experience, also games with huds will probably be difficult to read.

Other than being a showcase for the Frostbyte engine this game was such a lazy effort on behalf of DICE.

Judging from youtube videos what this game needs is a patch to make the AI not appear to be functionally brain dead.

On one hand, good for Massive - on the other hand they'll probably want to push this out as a yearly title. I don't know if that'll work out for them.
