I'd just like to mention as many americans are probably not aware of it, that there is a national day of mourning in Ireland today. The country has virtually shut, with the exception of emergency services and companies dealing with the states.

We sympathise immensly with our american brothers and sisters, In fact, many Irish and irish-americans were killed in the tradgedy (i.e. many of the fire-fighters and police were of irish descent). However that's not the point. Alot of people have been upset by how many americans died. I'd ask those to be upset simply because PEOPLE died. And that goes for both sides of the atlanic. If you think it doesn't affect you or your country, well here is a report from the irish times.
IRELAND: said three Irish people have been confirmed dead.

Competitive multiplayer gamers don't play the games with all the effects and lighting on
true, but most people aren't really "competitive" gamers. They just want to have a bit of fun and if the game looks good so much the better. As for the tech problem, you can have a pretty decent system for not toooo much cash if you're prepared to stay about 1-2 gens behind the latest hardware. E.G. top-of-the-line right now would be 1.8 gig, 256 mb ram and a GF3. unless you're REALLY into eye-candy and frame-rates in the triple-figures, you'll get much the same experience on an 800mhz machine w/ 128mb and a GF2.
Or maybe I'm just too poor/lazy to keep up with the latest tech!
