Sidenote: jury duty is generally not something that happens in my neck of the woods. I would not trust myself to be a voice that can decide the fate of someone else.

It'd be interesting to see how many people would be willing to suffer a Playstation account requirement if this was the long-overdue Bloodborne PC port instead.
they will whine about it but be playing the game at the same time, LOL

Gotta keep face, but can't lose out on the serotonin. Many people complain about 3rd party accounts/launchers, but as soon as a game in their favorite franchise gets released with such a requirement they will, of course, buy it.

I dunno, we all ignore the fact that we chose to make the publisher a third party by making Steam a de-facto mandatory second party if you wanna maximize your profits in the PC market.

Anyways, I also thought the H:ZD remaster arrived too early, but looking at the improvements it ain't just textures and models. The first Last of Us Remaster looked worse between the original and improved than H:ZD does between its versions.

You guys remember how bad we had it with all the "HD" versions of games way back when?

Man, that has to suck. Spending so much time on something with the vision of being the first, instead getting your glory sniped by a random dude who was "inspired" by you to try the same challenge.
Trophy goes to the winner, no doubt, but still ... I feel for the guy.

Use whatever works for you. I no longer try to convert people. I find much more enjoyment in engaging with people who have made the jump and want to learn and master a new OS. New warts and all.

i'm just shocked a 3700x can meet your needs. even at 4k i'd guess you're still CPU limited esp. in AAA games. i was running a 1700x up until 2 years ago, and it really was hot garbage by that time. i could barely play cyberpunk on high settings at 30fps.

In your example you pit a 1st gen processor against 3rd gen. 3700X is miles better than the 1700X as AMD made huge improvements during their first Ryzen ventures.

I got an i7 8700k in my setup and, even though I am looking to upgrade relatively soon, it is more than capable of producing framerates above 60FPS in all modern games (and framerates above 165 in competitive games, my monitor is at that refresh rate anyway so who needs 300FPS) that I have played so far despite being around 7 years old.

People are okay with 60FPS a lot of the time. I know I am. And, if you're frugal you really don't have the drive to upgrade in a short cycle (unless you're a professional who really needs their rendering/compiling done ASAP, time is money and all that).

Paid mods that are not sold through the IP owner always confused me.

If I make a mod for a game and only share it if people pay me then am I not making money off of an IP that is not owned by me? Surely, the IP owner is entitled to a portion of the profits.

And another thing, if a mod is monetized, how does it differ from a DLC?

2 year old M2 bumped to 16GB for the price of the pathetic 8GB model from 2 years ago? What a deal.

Sadly, Apple stuff is never a "good" deal. I say sadly, because they have areas in which they are superior in the portable department and yet drive so many people away due to insane pricing. In what world does additional 8GB of RAM = 200€/$ premium?

Thank you, Valve. This is exactly how you should use your monopoly power: helping the consumer. This is a small improvement but welcome.

I've been yelling at the sky for a long time that Valve should use its power to ban additional launchers and auxiliary installations. I think they can successfully argue that additional layers of launchers damages the quality of their platform and the products sold on it. Flagging kernel-level installs is at least a step in the right direction.

I am fully unbothered by third party launchers or, as you called them, auxiliary installations. However, I understand why people would find them annoying - why have two launchers to launch one game?
But your request is unreasonable. Such bans would most definitely invite legal action (which would most likely be successful, we've seen less valid complains passing before court) and would constitute monopoly-level abuse.

It's also obvious how good we have it in the PC gaming space if our biggest complaint (and it is BY FAR the biggest complaint by Steam users) is that "Boo hoo, we don't like launchers".

I recently forgot to cancel my Xbox PC Game Pass sub after buying it for a month to play a game I didn't want to buy.

I saw that I could play Black Ops 6 with the sub I have left. So, I said to myself; what the heck, why not? It's free. I unticked everything I did not need to install, which came down to about 80GB-100GB install size in the end.

And then it started downloading the full package anyways, over 200GB. Screw that.

Ubisoft's sales down nearly 20%. In what other business could you have numbers like this and not have, "resignations" and lawsuits coming out the wazoo?
It is quite silly how many gamers (maybe misinformed by shitfluencers?) have pretended as if Ubi is about to croak. They're not.

I agree fully. Companies as large as Ubisoft do not disappear overnight and are more likely to be subjects of a buyout before closure anyway (everyone is hungry to buy an already established company for cheap, not that it's what I'm suggesting will happen). Sales being down 20% does not necessarily mean anything at all.
Plus there is a false narrative that they are a financial failure. Companies like Square Enix keep on repeating how their every major release did not meet expected revenue targets and yet you don't see anyone shitting on SE or saying that they're failing.

I haven't personally bought any Ubisoft games in years (last one was Anno 1800, love that series), but that's more due to the giant ass load of games getting released every month and I simply don't have time to play their type of games too often. Or... a lot of any other games for that matter. We like to have a well-defined villain here on the internet and we so do love a witch hunt, Ubisoft is just unlucky to be the current target who everyone is going to forget about in a couple of months.

Metaverse will probably only ever truly take off once people who lived through physical ownership all pass away.

A lot of younger people I know don't think for a second about digital ownership, it's the norm for them. Many also connect physical media with needless plastic waste. And really, who am I to say any different?

Extraction shooters have become the, "everyone is going it yet, everyone is burned out on it" like battle royale games were years ago.

There always is an "era". Deathmatch shooters, MOBAs, Battle Royales, now extraction shooters. The reason (at least in my opinion) that Deathmatch/MOBA eras lasted longer was due to no FOMO.

I played tons of deathmatch and also wasted thousands of hours on DOTA and League and I never experienced FOMO. Then Battle Royales rolled over, battle passes were introduced, and bam! FOMO was here with every single live service game released.

When I read the title I thought "what a useless article". Then I read the article and I'll save you the trouble, it's useless.

It mentions things that we have known for decades. "Hidden" industries involved in cheatmaking, no anti-cheat is unbreakable, cheat software subscriptions, etc.

You can go to a YouTuber like Karl Jobst and you'll get all the info that these "researchers" figured out and far far more. Who pays these guys?

EDIT: They link the paper at the end of the article and guess what? It links to a "page not found", haha!

So i played and loved Dragon Age Origins but haven't played any of the others.. SHOULD I?

Everyone will have an opinion about this and it will differ vastly. My take on this is if you loved the overarching lore/setting, then you should at least give the others a try.
DA2 combat was different from DA1 as it felt distinctly focused towards a controller rather than mouse & keyboard. The story was not a direct continuation of DA1, although there are references and character appearances.

DA: Inquisition was somewhat "open world". In my taste it had too much side content, combat was more like DA1 though. I just wish it was a bit of a shorter game. As far as story goes, I enjoyed DA: Inquistion more than DA2, but not more than DA1.

Veilguard is not out yet ... so all we have are these early reviews. TL;DR - if you REALLY like the world setting then yes, play the others released up until now (although some might argue against DA2 as it felt a bit claustrophobic and not everyone will like the combat).

Well, it's got to be better than 2, at least.

I enjoyed DA 2, then again I was playing it on console for which it seemed to have been made in the first place.

DA3 felt like it had too much side content and at the end I felt myself rushing to the finish line due to content fatigue.

Not sure if you intended it, but that reads very vitriolic. What did console gamers ever do to you?
