Yeah this is the funniest part, he is the one who told them to leave if they don't like it. They did.

Everyone who's old enough to have typed in the 80's and early 90's knows what it feels like to type on a clicky mechanical IBM keyboard.
I can't say I miss the ruckus, nor the pressure you had to exert when I now cheerfully type on much more quieter linear switches.

Yeah but my point was kinda that the author clearly has never stepped outside of the cherry realm - they even show them on their images. Which is a bit of a problem, because that means they only know the wobbly binding mess that is cherry reds or blacks.

Of course, whether someone wants the clicky ruckus or just quiet tactility is a wholly different beast. For typing in general I would from decades of experience outfitting people at work say that gentle tactility beats linear for professional typists while being just as gentle to operate. Stiffer tactility and stiff clickies are... an acquired taste, yeah. Difficult to argue that they're only good if you live alone, too. 😅 But linears are good whenever you need the lack of defined contact point:

* You intend to bottom out every stroke anyways (held buttons during gaming).
* You mount analogue switches (which is chefs-kiss for gaming, definitely).
* You are a typist, but you bottom out regardless (I would change my habit, this is so not good for your hands...).

Damn, how to tell the world you've never used non-Cherry switches without telling them you actually never have. Thinking linears are superior for typing.

(Though I will give that for gaming, analog switches are an amazing invention and naturally will be linear - but for typing, my current favorite is Khail Box White V2, prefer them to Jades even)

The most fascinating part of this was how smooth the launch was so far, and how there's virtually no queues, even in the evening.

And not for "ded gaem"-reasons: Steam supports a player count just about the same as Endwalker. And while Steam is only a portion of the players, we can assume that percentage to be comparable to last time, too.

Seems that finally moving to cloud-based login servers has largely fixed Square's problems.

This looked vaguely interesting until I saw it in motion, and then noticed it's by The Chinese Room.

Mad props for sticking to their guns the way they do, but their games are absolutely not my thing, sadly.

I suspect it also doesn't help that while Sony has *said* they'll reverse their decision, they have not actually done so. Meaning vast swaths of the world still cannot buy/play Helldivers 2.

You just once again confirm that anyone who uses "woke" as a serious word always talks about stuff they have absolutely no clue about and is just trying to be angry to have an outlet to yell their frustration with themselves at. Geez.

But hey, entertain me. What do you mean by "woke"? Please define!

The steam reviews make it seem mostly unfinished, to a game-breaking degree. Damn. The concept sounds interesting, but even the official screenshots look very half-done.

I mean, we have a female bond. She had a whole TV show, and a movie. Phryne Fisher rocks. Easily outdoes half the Bond actors, on a fraction of the budget. And drives a better car to boot!

I'm not a creator, so I don't have access to analytics, but this sure feels accurate. I've heard that basically stated by creators in one form or another. Still, and I know that it isn't even close to the majority, but I routinely watch 2 and 3 hour movie or TV show reviews. The reviews are often longer than the movie. I think my record is watching a seven and a half hour video about a recent "Dr Who" season.

I mean you can see the final state of the inverse of this in Youtube Shorts and TikToks being so successful: Utterly contentless and disgustingly badly produced short form videos that are used entirely for something your finger and your eyes get to keep busy with while your brain is turned off. The equivalent of taking a deep breath and just sitting on the couch staring out of the window for a few minutes.

And yet it's disgustingly successful, raking in crazy amounts of cash and allowing for product shilling on a whole new level and hence being largely influenced by massive marketing studios.

And hence on the flipside, the longer, the more in-depth and the more "content heavy" your video is, the less someone is willing to watch it and the less the market is willing to invest money into it, both sponsors and youtube themselves.

Can someone actually explain this one?

Not being from the US I saw absolutely nothing wrong with the name - except that being written with an 'ö' of course evokes images of the swedish chef naturally, and that was probably the goal - and Google fails to return anything that isn't ghosts, horror or agents. And the new name is ultimately the exact same thing, no? It even pronounces 99,5% the same. Plus does american english even have ö as a letter?

Happy to hear the devs are doing so well with it!

Sad that the americans let their measles vaccination drop so low they lost herd immunity now.

Measles is absolutely no joke. Even if most cases are fairly mild. And it's not like the vaccine is difficult to access, you usually just get the combined MMR vaccine.

While I do agree that vertical tabs are The Future™️ on desktop and really ought to come standard in all browsers (and copy Edge's actually perfect implementation of them!), they are somewhat easily done in Firefox and don't require Floorp. Sure, it'd be better if Firefox itself did them because you can't expect your average user to go and mess with userChrome.css, but they're also not some arcane feature that's unavailable.

Floorp is interesting though. Way too rough to be usable for now, but some really cool ideas that I really wish were pulled into Firefox itself.
