Demos are a different matter. Daikatana's demo sucked. But by playing the demo you're saying the demo sucked, not the game - get it right. If you buy Daikatana and think it sucked then you have every right to say that it sucked.
Well actually i live in a relatively free society, i can say it sucks even if i don't know what the hell it is. Beyond that, i can justifiably state that it sucks just based on playing the demo (i couldn't even finish the demo) if the reasons I believe the game sucks, are such that they will remain in the rest of the game i have not experienced.
The stupid save game gems.
The horrible voice acting and ridiculous stereotypes.
Painfully hideous teammate AI.
Wasting countless hours playing the full game (plus whatever the game costs out of the bargain bin) would only expose me more to the things i hate, leading to move from merely thinking the game sucks, to a point where i think the game desiners owe me for my time wasted.
The above are not the extent of the reasons i thought it sucked, there are many others, but they are less set in stone and "could" simply exist in the few places in the game that i saw.
For instance, Obviously dated engine, horrible monster AI.
stupid annoying monsters (mosquitos and frogs), annoying sound effects.
Now if my problems were that i simply didn't like the design of the levels, or the monsters, those are opinions that could be changed by furhter playing the game and seeing more of the content, but the sidekicks, no amount of playing the game will help me like it?
You mentioned movies as a comparison, I don't need to sit thru an entire steven segal movie to realize it sucks ass. If i can make that determination in less than the hour and a half playing time of the movie, why would i need 20 hours to know daikantana sucks.
