I'll still wait to pick up a new video card, iirc the new cards come out in about 2 months. I probably won't be able to save more than $100 on mobo and cpu, which I would get the benefit of for the next 4 months. It's strange to hear dx12 just crashes, if I had an issue in dx 9-11 we could just adjust settings like AA or Shadows. I most meant being able to run at 60fps as being a smooth measure with most settings at high. Sounds like I've over estimated the power of the 3700x, RAM, and GTX1060.Acleacius wrote on Aug 6, 2020, 12:30:
Oh, that's probably true, there are some seriously intense texture packages now days. I don't play big competitive mboa and CS pvp type games, will see if I can squeak by. Do you think I will need 8gb to get 60fps@1440p in single player games like HZD, Fallout 4 (so many mods, so little time) and really looking forward to Steam versions of Outer Worlds and Control?
You need 8gb VRAM .. never, ever go below that. Anything less than 8gb will give you issues in modern games, at 1440p anyway. But even at 1080p it can rear its ugly head... it's got nothing to do with FPS, if you run out of VRAM most DX12 games will just crash. And for RAM, not below 16GB

Their routine can be interrupted by this and cause them more anxiety or worse.fakespyder wrote on Aug 2, 2020, 17:08:Yeah well, it seems people weren't following the rules seeing as the case count was quickly going up. It isn't insane, it is how you tamp down a pandemic. Could be worse, you could live in the US where the national level of government wants to let the virus run wild...
They've imposed harsher lockdown requirements down here in parts of Aus. Most things like mandatory face masks and only small numbers of people in a store at a time I understand.
But they actually imposed a curfew... I couldn't believe it when I heard it. It makes zero sense as it forces people who might otherwise have gone to the store at less busy times of the day to go during the non-curfew time. Now everyone will be panic buying all at once.
This whole thing is insane and is supposed to last at least 6 weeks!

I mean there's the no more security updates thing that could make you vulnerable. And some of those are wormable. I would hope that you installed the couple of manual out of band updates they released for win 7 for the critical things, like what was it... bluekeep, and disabled SMB v1.
But yes, MS is all sorts of shady in the tactics they pulled. I had to install a 3rd party tool to prevent MS for forcing me to upgrade. I only upgraded when I got around to building a new box.
...we’ll likely need a few weeks between steps, so I don’t want to create the impression that this is happening overnight
