Booker being the bad guy had hints sprinkled throughout the story and the ?twins? effort to fix the dimensions is also throughout the story. It's readily apparent even at the outset with the strange dialog while they're rowing to the lighthouse but it makes no sense until you've played through the game and gain context. Re-watching that conversation _after_ knowing everything makes that conversation make total sense and a lot of things the characters do throughout the game become "oh.... I see what you did there..." moments.

It's sort of like Fight Club where you find out at the end they're the same guy and when you re-watch it then you see the clues (and all the times brad pitt flits in for a frame or two in the background becomes obvious). But the first time through you don't notice it.

I quite like that sort of story telling.

Unfortunately, News is mostly bullshit opinion these days. It doesn't matter if the news outlet in question has a left or right agenda. Journalists that became journalists to "change the world" got into the business for the absolute wrong reason.... and unfortunately that is 95% of them.

To me it matters more whether I can read facts about a topic or not, and if I google facts, and I get paywalled truth vs not-pay walled maybe-truth.. then things aren't gonna get better in the world. Doesn't even matter what spin or agenda a media outlet has, if the truth "or really the facts with the least spin possible" is paywalled, then it dies. And it makes it far easier for the news outlets with clear agenda to influence when they can reach further. And Fox news reaches further than Wired. 100% because of these paywalls. Political news and day-to-day news should imo NEVER be paywalled.
That'd be nice but impractical in reality. Quality news requires hiring people who don't suck to go and do a job. OTOH, crap news or creative writing can hire anyone to throw up anything. They don't have to fly anywhere, interview anyone, cross-check their sources, etc. None of those things are free.

I'd recommend picking one website you trust and support them with a sub. News, unfortunately, isn't a charity service and quality news companies make way less in the post internet world than they did pre-internet. Even Blues, which has zero journalists, needs cash to stay afloat. That's just reality. This is especially true for smaller local news organization who've been hit way harder by the internet. This, imho, is one of the reasons news quality has been on a steady decline for so long.

2019 was already a crappy year. I'm rather proud that 2020 was able to throw down and say, "I can do way better". Looking forward (in fear) to 2021.

True, they could very well pocket the percentage if they didn't pay the app store. That said, in a competitive market if you're competing with other game makers you'll either spend that money on a developer to make your game (hopefully) better than the next guy or undercut your competitor.

Appstores' markups artificially inflate the price for the consumer and hurt the developer.

It could be, but generally, you sell as cheap as possible to get the largest install base you can. Software isn't like cars where there are material limits so you want to get it out as much as you can. That 30% tax is a lot to pay. To be fair, google's playstore, windows store, and steam are the same way. So, it's very much industry standard but for any established playstore it's too high imho they're just leeching off of other's success at that point. It's worse because neither google nor apple make it easy for another appstore to exist in their environment so there is no competition and no choice for the consumers.

Epic's 15% is much more paletable (and doesn't prevent epic from raking in $s). GoG I think has also been reducing it's cut post epic's store launch.

Me personally, I'd rather have more $ in the dev's hands because they can make a better game or pass the savings to us than to pay a middleman 1/3. But, unless more people speak up like Sweeney has been I don't see the oligopolies breaking.

By that logic you agree with Sweeney. If a middleman takes a 30% cut then the developer is certainly going to pass that cost to the customer.

Seems fine to me. If all the stores were interlinked like what Galaxy does then what difference would exclusivity make?

Buy it on epic, launch it steam. Done. I launch all my games off galaxy today. It's great!

I also agree with Sweeney that if I own a digital asset then I should own it. I shouldn't need to re-buy it if I want to run it off a different platform like steam if I bought it on epic or gog. Galaxy effectively masks that problem but it does mean you don't own the asset. You own it through the platform. If the platform dies your ownership of that asset dies with it. That's always irked me (not that it's happened much).

I'm not a huge fan of Stadia (mostly, too pricey and too ahead of it's time). But give it a few years and I can see where technology will catch up and this'll work just fine. The only question is will it be a couple years or many more years before technology makes this effectively seemless?

$20 on PS4 but $50$ on PC. For a 3+ year old game.

Then go play it on a PS4. Your entitlement to assume that all the time and expense it took the developers to port it over to PC to then sell it on Steam for $20 minus Valve's 30% is foolish. I own it on PS4 but as far as I see it, this is a new game for PC gamers.

Its the same assets. Same story. 99.99% of the game is already done! Why do we have to pay an extra $20 for a old game? PC users getting screwed over just like when PC games jumped to $60 for no damned reason other than "well we milked the console users for an extra $10 why not the PC users too!".

Because it cost them to port it. Decima is a proprietary engine made by Sony for Playstation. Then on top of that, according to the trailer, the devs added a bunch of PC-only features and enhancements, including unlocked framerates. I didn't think Decima was able to achieve that.

It's funny that the people who don't work in software think that a port is only 0.01% of the entire effort.

I might buy the argument if this was a PS3 port and not a PS4 one. Given the underlying cpu tech used in the PS4 being x86 cpus, its hard to say the effort is worth $50. Its better than $60-80 of the console release. But then I bought the disc version of the base game what, 2.5 years ago in Nov 2017 for $20 If I'd waited a year I would have been paying $30 or so for the complete edition instead. I never bothered with the expansion as I just wasn't in love with the game to warrant it.

If this was say, the Master Chief Halo collection where they are modernizing the games and putting in a working multiplayer mode I'd be more understanding. That game(s) has been $40 or less for 8+ months now.

No. If ports to PC were so simple then RDR2 and other failed ports would not be a thing. Converting from one platform to another is not difficult because of the hardware (e.g. CPUs) it's difficult because you you need to convert the existing framework to a new one. It would actually be easier to reskin an existing game (art & assets) than it would be to port a game from console to PC.

Depends on what political circle is claiming that and why. Fact is there's no way of knowing. What we do know is that the divorce rate is 40%+. And that's not just because of infidelity.

And in the liberal 'anything goes' world of today, isn't wrong to judge someone for not being monogamous in the first place? After all, in nature, fidelity is the exception, not the rule.

Whatever the number is it's a large enough number.

As for infidelity. If it's an open relationship then they're grown adults they can have at it. Otherwise, they do take a vow to be faithful to each other so... From a company's point of view it's an optics thing at that point.

I don't know how you can do that. They own a huge majority of the market and have ownership in several major and many minor publishers and developers. At this point, quitting gaming entirely is more realistic than cutting off all TenCent associated games.

Having said that, I'm not a fan of the TenCent overlords gobbling more good IPs either.

I really liked Assassin's Cred Odyssey. It's a far cry from their old formula. More open world, more action and combat, less stealthy. It's evolved quite a bit over the iterations and I think this is a good direction for it. It's also good for short sessions -- easy to pick up and put down.

As for Ubi, I may hate some of their practices (e.g. their DRM and marketing) but they really do make a lot of fun games.
