As someone who enjoyed seeing Bioware's reputation nosedive from Anthem and Andromeda, this is a sad day for me.

I guess most of those people angry about Gina Carano didn't cancel afterall. Or maybe they did and it just doesn't matter. How's that culture war going?

Seeing as they gained 5 million subs after doing so it sounds like it's going really well for them.

Personally, I don't get it. There isn't remotely enough material on D+ to justify the cost.

If you're into Star Wars, Marvel and enjoy classic Disney stuff and the occasional new Disney? Definitely worth it, especially when many of us managed to snag it at a big discount before launch. Now if you don't enjoy most of those things or at least don't have people to share it with that do...then yeah, its harder to justify.

Well then consider it braindead if you wish.
It seems you really have a low bar for
biggest contributors in gaming history and possibly a genius.

His "so called genius" was pretty heavily cracked since doom 3 and beyond.
He basically made an engine with so many layers of mapping, any engine designer could have done it.
It ran like such a piece of shit, I don't think the networking multiplayer ever got fixed.
Loosely quoting here, his "so called genius" also publicly stated "he didn't care what customers/fans wanted, he made what he wanted."
When half of id tried to explain "jump scares" were a thing of the past during doom 3 development, he basically bought all their shares and fired them.
Then, thankfully he started playing with his rockets. At least keeping him out of the gaming industry has been a big boon, regardless of your fan worship.
He deserved to be fired, I can only hope he never comes back to gaming. There's too many sociopaths in the industry.

Uh, John Carmack wasn't fired from iD and he's still in the game industry, albeit in VR.

Do you have any source of the things you just said? Also are you sure you aren't mixing him up with Adrian Carmack (who was forced out of the company and sued his former partners)?

Carmack is a legend for a reason. He was the programmer behind Wolfenstein, Doom, and Quake. All revolutionary titles for technical, programming reasons. Seriously, no one did work on his level until the Unreal engine came along. Even with 2D gaming, his Commander Keen engines turned heads because PC hardware didn't have the 2D sprite handling capabilities built-in the way consoles had at the time.

And seriously, how would him being out of the industry be a "boon" for the industry? No single person is that influential in gaming, especially considering that he is a PROGRAMMER and not a DESIGNER.

The title of the article is humorous when you consider that Doom released only 3 years after the first Keen.

AllGames stills exists, Fantaz

Albeit barely. Scot setup a retro AGN discord in case you didn't know.

The Last of Us Part II snaggs first place, there might be some redeeming qualities about metacritic after all.

Was Alyx that bad or were the others that good?

Alyx is good. But at the risk of sounding like some sort of VR elitist: its a bit overrated, possibly because of people whose previous VR experiences amounted to Beat Saber if anything.

I have no qualms about TLOU2 having the top meta score and I'm glad to see a lack of whining about the game in this thread.

Unpopular opinion but Cyberpunk is probably my favorite game of the year (maybe alongside Animal Crossing).

This is different from that other stupid Avengers game, right?

This is the Square Enix one where they showed a lot of CG and talked to the voice actors at E3 for like 2 hours without showing gameplay (though they showed gameplaye later at GC I think?). I can't think of another Avengers game in the works other than VR stuff.

Largest compute jump, smallest visible improvement. We've hit those diminishing returns pretty hard.

Took him 3 years to find a scummy lawyer that would take his case, gotta admire his persistance.

Prince himself is actually a licensed attorney and its not his first time suing over his music. But, at least this time, he appears to have a valid case.

Honestly, between this and the issues with Dragon Quest and its composer...game companies should push to own perpetual rights to their games music, at least when it comes to reselling the game down the road.

I just finished Sam 3 in VR last night and it was a blast.

There are some glitches here and there but you can dual wield any gun, including the minigun and cannon, or have a different in each hand. I especially recommend it if you can handle smooth locomotion in VR (there's also teleport but I didn't try it).

I definitely recommend the old games in VR over the Last Hope. Sam was never meant to stand in one spot.

Yes, AtGames confirmed its their hardware.

I have to think Sega signed some long exclusivity agreement with them, thinking there would be little interest. Otherwise, why stick with someone with such a bad reputation?

There's no way The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild is Game of the Year over Horizon Zero Dawn. EVERYTHING in HZD is nearly perfect.

And yet nearly every outlet and award body gave it to Zelda.

That is not to say your view is wrong, but people have different tastes. Personally, as much as Horizon did right, I found so much of it to be completely joyless and oddly derivative of other games (especially Ubisoft games).
