not sure I follow you. 3D makes any game look 10 times better. on the modern titles like gta5, witcher3, tomb raider etc without 3D it looks like you just turned the graphics off...

It's true. I started playing AAA titles like that on my Rift in 3D and it makes the whole experience much more immersive. I can't go back to gaming on my monitor now, unless it's an RTS or isometric game.

It's more than a "fad." Whether it will succeed as home entertainment or not, no one can say, but it's already becoming established at the enterprise level in terms of product design, architecture, etc. This is in spite of a certain segment of the population who seem to be cheering for its demise.

The writing has always been the weakest link in any Rockstar game. They spend so much time and effort and money to craft these breathtakingly vast and intricate worlds ... and then they just churn out the weakest, least believable dialogue ever. Is some of it entertaining? Sure. Are there moments of brilliance? Sure. There was a lot of stuff in GTA V I liked. But most of it is just ... random bullshit. Characters who have no actual character, no consistent or believable motivation behind their actions, shit that happens just because someone thought it would be funny if X happened, dialogue that doesn't rise to the level of some grade Z straight to Youtube video ...

I know people remember RDR very fondly, but after a couple of hours I just couldn't take the shitty writing anymore and quit. Ever other line in that game was some variation of "--but the federal gub'mint ... " bla bla bla. And that "romance" ... talk about lame.

I'd also like to point out in defense of sandbox games like GTA, while you can murder random civilians if you want to, just like you're free to do all sorts of things (sandbox!) murdering civilians is not the whole point of the game. Where as with a game called Rape Day ...

They probably removed it because the Denuvo was cracked a while ago.

Huge Kafka fan here, though to be honest I haven't read his stuff in a while. Game looks interesting and I'll definitely keep an eye on it.

Thing that bugged me was the stupid color filter they put over different environments. Okay, let's tint this entire area GREEN! And the next level, uh ... PURPLE! It'll look really cool!

It really was that dumb. No subtlety or sense at all. Someone made a color correction mod and it made the game look SO much better. Couldn't play without it.

Does the "painful stretch for the video-game industry" have anything to do with investors demanding greater and greater profit margins and to hell with anything else?

Titanfall 2 was great. Not a fan of EA but I'd try this.

It's not really like Diablo in that it is not a point and click style game but more of an action rpg with direct control of your character (which I personally greatly prefer).

But I don't like the art style, which isn't so much "fake 3D" as it is characters from a side-scrolling game superimposed onto a top-down game. Like, I don't mind fake 3D, but at least get the perspective right. Too many games on Steam going this route IMO with by far the worst being this little gem right here:

But not everyone has the physical ability or will, in this age of obesity, to run thirty yards, tackle and get tackled, etc. EVERYONE should be able to at least TRY and play a video game.

Yet my own kids would rather watch some youtube "personality" play Minecraft, than play Minecraft themselves. It's a spectator generation. There's something inherently passive about this that bugs me. I do think there's something wrong with it.

I build my own PCs to save money/get better performance for my dollar, etc. I'll admit I feel a certain sense of pride when it all goes right. But I can't imagine building a PC (gotta track down that post error! Was it three beeps? Or four?) and then using my new PC to play a game about ... building a PC.

It's like if I was a mechanic, I'm pretty sure I wouldn't boot up my PC to play a game about being a mechanic.

Maybe I'm just not into the "culture" enough, but ... what's the appeal here?

I want them to stop pretending they give a shit about PC gaming.

I am so, SO psyched for this. Blood is one of my favorite FPS of all time. And yes I remember Sin--No weapon spread! Firing a shotgun was the same as a pistol--and Kingpin: Life of Crime, which was another one of my favorites. Kingpin had an awesome aesthetic and some great melee action. That first lead pipe you get ... There was something about the character models in that game that just created a sense of physicality other games lacked. It's too bad it lost focus in later levels, but the first half of Kingpin still holds some very fond memories for me. Nothing tops the first time I fired the flare gun and set a cultist on fire though.

I wonder what kind of car that was in the TV show clip. It looked really cool.

From what I've seen of the game (saw a few streamers play it) the game doesn't hit any of my "must play" buttons.

Admiteddly they weren't very far in, but the writing and dialogue wasn't that awesome and the player's character is far from a cool & mysterious gunslinger type that would draw me into the story.

I thought the writing in the first game was vastly overrated. Every other sentence was some variation of "But the federal gub'mint!" or some cheesy western cliche that made Zane Grey sound like William Fucking Shakespeare by comparison. Pages and pages of filler that didn't advance the narrative or fill out the characters or even succeed on the level of window dressing. But people loved it and will defend it to the death. I thought the writing in GTA V was a thousand times better and it wasn't even that good.

Twitter, the worst of the worst: teaching the world to be stupid in 280 characters or less. I wish people would wake up to the fact that having--and preserving--an attention span, is actually a good thing.
