Oh woe be me! There was some copy protection in games back in the day, who would`ve thunk.

The point is, once you bought the game, you could take it home and play it without any external factors involved. I didn`t need to have to call Gabe and ask for his permission and I certainly did not need to have internet connection.

Jeez, it`s just a sale, get over it.

My only problem is the same like with all their sales - repetitive deals. It`s the same fare with same prices just like in the last sale (not too long ago) and the one before, and the one bef...

Well, joke`s on you for being stuck with Atari...you should`ve got C64/Speccy like any reasonable kid would

Snark aside, it`s really kind of unfair to compare microcomputer library to AAA titles from big studios. Most of the rubbish you describe were from bedroom coders - because indie gaming did not start in 2006 like some would like to believe. Plus, it`s kind of easy to knock them these days - but back then it was so novel people didn`t really have such problems.

And AA/AAA - hell, even B/C games from 80 and 90s were incomparably better compared to the pathetic fare on display these days. Games are about gameplay, not the polygon count. Studios like SSI, Microprose, Looking Glass, Black Isle, Shiny, Electronic Arts/Ubisoft/Activision (hell yeah), iD, Japan too - and countless others delivered killer, innovative titles by the numbers - and they were also free of the modern cancers known as online DRM, stupid DLC and microtransactions.

You can go on and prattle on about nostalgia and how everything is better nowadays but it is simply not true. How I wish it was...

Oblivion was a groundbreaking RPG. Hard to believe it's been 10 years.

I had to rub my eyes a few times...somebody really wrote this? I feel like I`m not alone in this universe anymore

(Okay it`s probably some post-ironic secret hating, but nice to imagine otherwise. Oblivion is probably one of the most unfairly demonized games in the whole history of the medium)

Yes.

That Cifaldi guy is getting on my nerves a bit, seemingly on a righteous mission but really because he`s got a vetted interest in the subject: "idea of using emulation to republish classic NES games through his company, Digital Eclipse"

Y`all is barking up the wrong (speed)tree. Though, of course it`s easier to blame the wrongness on some console bogeyman than face up to the fact that we`re living with the corporate dick up the wazoo.

Go rage at MS and Remedy (and other such culprits)- it`s up to them to release a proper PC version of a game. Parity deals and farming out ports to some hack codeshops is a premeditated operation.

(This game will suck hard anyway, so I don`t really care, however principle remains)

Duck sucks, but I`ve been using ixquick.com for years and it`s just fine. It`s a meta of yahoo, bing and few others. If you`re giggling at these names do a side by side comparison and prepare to be surprised.

yes, these might be evil but they don`t have the monopoly. Also ixquick is totally private.

For those who can`t live without google results there`s startpage.com from the ixquick people - it scrubs the spying and is also totally private.

In general, f**k google. Internet life without its cancer is entirely possible and hassle free.

The history is already saved since MAME packs are some of the most popular downloads out there. Why would I need some budding capitalist - this dude is pumping his own agenda here after all - to slap a wrapper on them and sell them to me?

Now, one reason would be the ol` "support the devs", however of course this is a moot point here. These companies already made their money, devs have moved on and the case is closed.

Having said that, I do own heaps of old classics on GOG, for not sure what reason, since I already "saved them" years before anyway. Some sort of psychological effect maybe. So, if the price was reasonable then maybe, why not. Also, if they didn`t break everything by using lame/forced filters and such. It has to be 1:1.

Children these days have no respect...Mr Gollop & Sid Meier - 2 of the best videogame designers ever. Shoo now, go play with your phone or something.

I was secretly hoping that Chaos Reborn might lead to bigger things and it seems there`s hope. It probably won`t be nothing close to Dreamland Chronicles Reborn- my ultimate vaporware Holy Grail - but TBS combat and overworld sounds tasty enough anyway.

^^the first new installment in the Oddworld series in years^^

Not bad...I thought The Inhabitants disappeared for good, but seems Mr Lanning is still at the helm so it`s all good.

A truly maverick studio full of originators, from that heady Shiny and Looking Glass era.

I`d much rather they did another one in the vein of Oddworld: Stranger's Wrath - that game was really ahead of its time - but this is good news anyhow.

So now, the new PC can go toe-to-toe with the PS4 or XBox One, $1300 later. It would probably beat them both out, but not by as much as you think.

Problem is, your purchase was poorly thought out. PC I built last summer - i5 2500 + GTX 670 cost me around 420$ and comfortably could match PS4/X1. Sure, it was all second hand but who cares.

However all this bean counting is for nowt, since as I said earlier people don`t buy consoles because they lack funds for a gaming PC but mostly because they can`t be bothered with fussing around with one. Heck, plenty of people actually DO have capable desktop PCs at home - or ones that could be capable with little hardware injection - and yet they choose to play on consoles anyway.
