I know...whitefolks never had it easy in this world. It`s a majority that suffers in silence and will only receive all the rewards in Heavens. I suppose.

I don`t mind Bioshocks, some good moments there, but in the end of the day they`re just solid corridor shooters. Seeing as they come from - and used for promotion - the Looking Glass legacy, this is not really good enough.

Without having read the article, I'm going to say that indie devs should probably also consider that without Steam, 99.999999% of them would never have been able to release their games.

Let me guess, you did not put much thought into this statement, did you? Just sayin, because as nonsensical as it would be even without this "99.999999%" (!!!111! amirite? :), that `s really the mark of a true zealot.

Dream on, guys. One day that whole beautiful walled garden of yours will rot and decay though, one way or another, it`s the way of the world. People won`t be blinded forever, even though it might be decdes from now. True ownership will eventually make a comeback, because it`s the only thing that really makes sense.

People ripping on controllers remind me of these kids back in the day who insisted on playing Quake with just the keyboard even though the world moved on to the m_filter zone.

Seriously folks, the paradigm has changed. Outside of competitive FPS and some mouse-bound genres, gamepads are mostly superior. You might rant and foam, but simple ergonomics do not care much for that.

Somehow I'm going to find a way to blame this for the lack of GTA 5 SP DLC!

gta-onlines-shark-cards-have-made-500000000
"Have you wondered why GTA V doesn’t seem to be getting any single player DLC, despite it being teased, hinted at and even promised a few years ago? It would seem the answer is simple: there’s absolutely no point, at least not from a financial perspective.

In an ongoing legal battle between Rockstar and a former producer, it has been noted that Rockstar and its parent company Take-Two have raked in at least $500,000,000 from GTA Online, so that doesn’t even include the initial purchase cost of the base game. Jesus. H. Christ.

Shark Cards have been mocked and ridiculed since they were first introduced as micro-transactions in GTA Online, but it looks like they’re actually working and whoever came up with idea is due a nice big bonus at some point. It’s still possible that there’s some single player DLC in the works, but at the moment it’s not looking all that likely, especially when Rockstar is doing a better job in the credit game than some actual creditors."

Yeah, well, welcome to the New Online World Order.

Total War 40K is something that would get this old cynic salivating.
Battlefield Gothic already looks amazing...can`t wait.

Anyway...free DLC, seems CD Projekt might`ve started a trend here. I`d still prefer there was no-DLC, but it`s better than usual nickel and diming I guess.

Yeah, but a lot of that criticism is valid. Skyrim alone has huge user made patches for the game and each of its major DLCs because there's a shitload of bugs Bethesda never bothered to fix. And then there's FO3 which requires other user made fixes just to stop it from crashing, or the HUGE PS3 issue that basically borked people's Skyrim saves if they simply played for too long.

The fact that they're large open worlds doesn't excuse this, AT ALL. If you're going to do something, then do it right. Get a bigger development team, spend some more on QA. Bethesda can surely afford it.

Also, Oblivion was ugly, if you're talking about the character faces

There`s much more "invalid" than valid criticism: examples in your post

Skyrim and Oblivion have big fan made patches, however they are not really fixing major issues but mostly minor/tiny ones (with some specific exceptions). Stuff you`d never find out about and that other games have in spades too but there`s no way to fix them because engine is not flexible. I played 50+ hours of Oblivion on 360 and never had any problems, and that just with an early Bsoft patches. Also 100+ hours in FO3, just Bsoft patches, no crashes whatsoever. It`s a myth. People tend to overload the game with mods, mess with the inis, then go crying that the game`s broken.

And that old "ugly faces" trope...well, acquired taste, but bear in mind they were procedural...I much prefer that than the same face on all shopkeepers for example.

Sure, some things were VERY wrong: that PS3 performance was inexcusable. Also leveling in Oblivion: huge design flaw - though leveling in open world games is always a pain.

Anyway, my point was about comparing them with other devs: last Witcher couldn`t even get its movement right, yet everybody glossed over it and other issues like downgrade and performance.

Like i said, nobody else is doing this kind of true open world experience so yes, they are allowed some slack. There will NEVER be a game of this scope released bug-free...it`s just impossible.

Yeah, well , SP and online-only MP are pretty different.

Anyway, good moves (Fallout too), even thou these big boys just wanna hang out with the cool roguelike kids, and so are jumping on the bandwagon. Plus, they`re going back a full-circle since Far Cry 2 was designed around similar principles from scratch.

Can`t complain since I can`t play any other way now: I got the harsh-mode bug a few years ago. Think it goes back to Stalker:SOC. Sure, the modders probably do it better but glad they`re trying anyway.

Permadeath in a non-procedural game is a bit pointless though. Maybe if they added random spawns and some scoring system it could work.

There's a difference between hating and seeing flaws.

Exactly, I enjoyed Skyrim/Oblivion/FO4 a lot, but there's still a lot of flaws in those games that I really hate.

Nothing wrong with justified criticism, sure. However, you must admit that when it comes to Bethsoft "pointing flaws" becomes more of a pitchfork crusade, judging by the quality of comments over the web. We see things blown out of proportion (clipping issue=game broken!), retrospective lunacies ("Oblivion was ugly!"), conspiracy theories like the one up here and so on.

People also tend to forget the fact that their games are uber-complex true open worlds, not exactly an easy feat to pull off - which is maybe why nobody else is doing it, and also the reason why there are bugs and issues.

And the biggest WTF accusation is the old "they release a broken game because they know players will fix it". Putting aside the inane stupidity of it - huge chunk of their profit comes from consoles where player`s can`t "fix it" - I think more reasonable approach is : "their engine and modding kit are very flexible and it`s a good thing".

But hating and following some cute narratives is more fun, I guess. Bethsoft is the bad guys, meanwhile CD Projekt gets a pass, despite having the same kind of problems at launch.

If you think about it, paywalls aren`t actually such a bad thing. Back in the day, if I wanted some news I`d buy a newspaper, and so would everybody else.

For some reason now all this HAS to be free, meanwhile people don`t mind shelling out for some stupid shit like "coins" for your fb game or some Groupon crap.

The Internet should be a community (not government) driven and the ability to lay down access wires/cables should be allowed much more freely and not monopolized by the government or big corporations.

A proper government, as in, you know, elected in a free democratic non-$$-tainted process with non-corruptible members would be perfect to maintain such infrastructure (and other public services, banks and such), not some dream-like community. And definitely not fucking google.

Dude, don`t try and find reason or logic in your average console-hater`s argument - it is truly a waste of time.

Especially when it comes to Bethesda. Truth is, I actually wouldn`t be surprised if they turned around one day and said "well, fuck you too" to the PC crowd, for the amount of unsubstantiated hate this company receives is incomparable to anybody else.

I know you have a decomposing horse to flog, but what I commented on had nothing to do with UWP. Sure, it`s evil. It also isn`t the reason why the game is buggy - same with GoW - and definitely not related to some madcap console conspiracies.

And, being named Narcissa is an excuse for abuse? Really? Don` t let me start on nicknames here then buddy...
