We have Cex in Europe which is the same idea as Gamestop. For nearly a decade it was pretty awesome: their rates were very fair and you could get a lot for either exchange or cash.

Then they went down the drain turning exactly into a Euro Gamestop with cutthroat rates. Fuck that.

There`s no need for it, it`s just greed. And greed, contrary to received wisdom, is not good.

They missed Alien (1984) released for the micros. It was a strange strategy-survival mix and much better from all the games in this listcle.

Well, apart from the latest maybe. I still can`t believe how good Isolation really is, and how bizarre it is that it got made at all.

EU has many flaws, but for giving the Big G a finger (and not for the first time) they deserve at least three cheers.

I`d call it criminal sense, not common.

M2 is quite gorgeous (that city in 120 Hz GSync`d...wow) but criminally empty of content. You can`t build an open city and give a player nothing to do there. Shootouts were fun, but the rest pretty average..so I just uninstalled it.

And not much hope for the sequel either. They say there will be much more to do, but so does everybody else and they seldom deliver.

Also the brutality of the first trailer was a bit too much top for me. Yeah...Punisher, but this is Mafia.

EDIT: I have to "sign in" to watch this trailer? Come again? F-you, google.

Doesn`t seem so. Fixing bugs and adding some basic gfx changes isn`t a Redux, for me at least (definitely not for 20 bucks)

But then, can you blame them? It`s what everybody else is doing and people are lapping it up, so not a big surprise.

I liked the 1st one best because the story was so incredibly cheesy that it was actually fun, a la Just Cause 2 or 80s action films. Then they got all angsty and serious and I hated it.

Gameplay wise I couldn`t stand the stealth sections, as in most non-stealth games.

Overall, it`s a bubblegum kinda series, not bad, but not for me anymore. The linearity and predictable gameplay is just too suffocating. I mean, it`d be okay if it wasn`t one of this year`s biggest games...4 decades of gaming history and this is the best we can do?

Well, let`s not get carried away with this "being pushed around" - think you misunderstood my "spite" angle, which admittedly was a bit theatrical. Forum posts are a limited medium, and there are many reasons for my being skeptical about indie love-in, apart from snobby attitudes - however this is probably outside of the scope of this thread.

Wow, the angst is real. This kind of insufferable attitude is what kept me off the (new wave) indie games for years, just out of spite. Who knows, perhaps there would be more customers for your 0.99$ ASCII game if not so many of the indie devs had their heads planted firmly in their backside.

Anyway. Topic-wise, AAA game development is what it is, there always be some sort of crunch time or head-over-heels situations, no amount of "good management" will help with that. It`s simple: if you don`t like it, go work somewhere else. I heard startups are a thing these days (eyeroll.gif)

But it has nothing to do with exploitative employers: it is another issue and there are unions and courts to deal with that. But, do you have the balls to stand up and fight for yours? Not many do, hence lots of exploitation.

And meta-wise, like Suppa7 said above, you signed up for a crooked system, will go vote for either Hilaria or The Don (the same thing economically) yet here you expect miracles. The thing about the cake: you can`t have and eat it, I`m afraid.

The problem with Gungeon is the same as with most cookie-cutter roguelites: you can`t make a proper game in this genre without understanding what makes a true roguelike.

Slapping together some cherry-picked features like procgen and permadeath won`t magically make your game a great RL. This takes lots of thoughtful balancing and planning, and sometimes years of tweaking - Nethack, Crawl, ADOM et al have been around for decades and are still being worked on.

Totally. I don`t actually agree with everything that St.John dude is saying, but I`m down with the main point about the incredibly annoying dev-whine, so trendy these days.

"Entitled" and "sheltered" are the codewords here. I never worked in the gaming biz, but spent few years in media production and it`s kinda similar. Sure, it can be exhausting and stressful, but nothing compared to some real hard work. And of course the rewards are incomparable.

And don`t even start me of on that Vlambeers yupster - they took nearly 3 years to finish a fairly simple roguelite, funded by the modern bizzaro wonder of EA, and now expect to everyone fall over themselves because it`s HIGH ART. Ugh.

This game suffers from the same problem most modern AAAs do, GTA V included: there is no challenge at all. The story, setting, gameworld were all excellent. Beautiful sunsets, sprawling vistas, perfect horse handling, seemingly myriad things to do. However, when the fighting starts, you`ll win every time, thanks to the magic slow-mo bullet time. I only died few times and always because of dodgy camera or a stupid NPC pardner.

This kills the whole game. Once you realize that, there`s no point in doing anything, hunting, upgrading, playing poker and so on.

It`s sad really how R* squanders such huge potential in their games. Guess the rot started with LA Noir, that awful abomination. But I suppose that is what gamers want these days - no fail states, please! - so they just play that tune ad nauseum.
