Anybody still want to claim it was a bad investment for M$?

What I find bizarre is how many kids actually only watches the utube Minecraft vids without ever wanting to play it...it`s like a cartoon or something.

MP titles largely sell to an audience of socially-minded gamers who want to play against human opponents, not bots. The investment isn't worth it.

It makes the games uninteresting to me (I don't care for playing with others and get my social interaction outside of games), but to say bots should be mandatory is entitled nonsense.

So you don`t like MP games, yet you offer your learned opinion on once-integral element of the genre? Way to go, champ.

There are multiple reasons why bots might be of interest to people who, you know, are interested in MP. Like playing offline, making up the numbers or just training outside live matches. Another was just purely watching advancements in AI, which last I`ve heard is quite coveted field in S-Valley these days.

But nevermind all that, you managed to sneak in your "I get my social interaction outside of games" shade, so it`s all good.

The story makes sense: you`re a brother from a black MOB wrecking revenge on the Italian MAFIA. So I suppose it`s a MAFIA game, okay?

My only problem is that the main dude is so pumped up and psychotic it kind of ruins the party. Gee, smoke a doob or something. I suppose revenge is a serious thing, but come on.

And then there`s gameplay, if they again wanna try and sell me an open city which is actually an empty city, then it`d be a bummer.

Schadenfreude Party: that Theranos bubble bursting is just too kool for skool. And well deserved too..while there`s more than plenty of fraudulently inflated valuations for some ridiculous companies, this one messed with people`s health. Disgusting.

Kind of interesting, but also suspicious re: gameplay. Got a feeling it might be neither survival nor adventure. One for the wait-for-reviews shelf.

Single player would be awesome but I don`t see this happening seeing as the first one was straight-to-MP.

Bot support should be mandatory for any serious MP title...but they prefer to lock a player down for online-only deal. To think that bot-making was once even more respected than mod-making...heady days.

It will be supported till GTA 6 comes out. Then they will milk the new one even harder and make SP more scripted and lame (ie cheaper to knock out).

"even more revolutionary than The Witcher"

The Witcher was revolutionary? In what respect, exactly?

I`d like to get excited about 2077 but so far there`s absolutely nothing known apart from that it`s an RPG. Probably. The rest is just PR smoke.

Cinemaware were the kings of the micro era. The gfx in their games were light years ahead of everybody else and gameplay wasn`t usually too bad either, it looks clunky now but at the time the stuff they were doing was unheard of.

I bought an Amiga for King Of Chicago and ICFTD. Wings and DotC, Rocket Ranger were also amazing. Really not looking forward to the rape of these IPs by Starbreeze...some lame remakes were already knocking about recently. Best left alone in the Nostalgia Mausoleum.

just honestly curious where you have heard that Valve was behind the 75% cut.

1st site that came up, KnowYourMeme. Seems their valuation was indeed rubbish and their 75% figure meant the split between Beth/Valve (whatever the particulars).

While that`s a big difference, my original point about blaming everything on Bethsoft still stands.

The "combat" in the first Witcher was an embarrassing joke, and stemmed from the fact it was based on Aurora engine. If they actually kept it like in Bioware games it could work, but they messed around and ended with this awful neither fish nor fowl click-click-click tedium.

I`m currently trying to decide if the second one is okay or also broken.

I know a lot of people say "but I play it for the story", but it`s not something I can fathom. Combat is an essential part of any cRPG, if it sucks, why suffer? Read a book, eh.

The bethesda moneytrain stops for no one! Those were the guys who wanted to sell mods...

You forgot #ThanksBethesda!

Laughing, but in fact it`s a perfect example of PC gaming narrative delusions. It was of course Valve who came out with this glorious idea, taking only a 75% cut from the mod sale. Skyrim just happened to be the first in line.

But Bethsoft/EA/whoever are the big bad wolves of PC scene and CD Projekt/Valve the can-do-no-wrong heroes who slay beasts and save princesses. Okay, whatever rocks your boat guys.

This transpires to The Witcher itself, it`s a good game but the only flawless thing in it is the gfx. It has many questionable design decisions, and every single Witcher was a buggy mess upon release (the first one up till the Enchanced Edition) - you know, just like any other big, complex game.

It has also a completely different style from Bethesda`s RPGs, yet folks love to hate-compare the two, even though it don`t make much sense...but it`s a handy stick to bash Bethsoft some more.

In an ideal world both series would be celebrated by cRPG fans, but the one we live in, well, people love their fairytales more than reality.

and yes, the original studio is back (APPEAL), and I have big hopes in this one. I was a backer of the sadly failed kickstarter campaign for the HD reboot. let's cross fingers on this new try !

Ah okay, you out-trivia`d me Though Belgium is a weird mix of Euro-flavours with big French speaking population, so nearly there.

Failed Kicksatrter? Didn`t that HD remake materialize after all? I thought it`s for sale on GOG or some such...

Sometimes a French studio would come out and drop a scene-changing ahead-of-its-time bomb like Another World, Cruise For a Corpse or Beyond Good and Evil. Outcast was such game too...

I don`t play remakes - prefer originals - but since it`s the team who wrote it good luck to them.

Those qualities are valued as much today as ever, the difference is that standards are much higher today. 20+ years ago, Elite was as good as it got. Now, we can hand-craft The Witcher 3 and suddenly 400,000,000,000 similar star systems just isn't that appealing.

Civilisation has always used proc-gen maps and it has remained a favourite of mine because it puts a game on top. It doesn't give me a scouting unit and billions of map tiles and tell me to go nuts.

There`s a quite a heap of contradicting confusion for such a short post, but I must admit, it encapsulates the situation rather well.

Comparing The Witcher to The Elite for example shows the whole misunderstanding of people who want to cling to their preferred playstyle and mistakenly think it`s the only valid one.

More curious is cherrypicking Civilization as a "good" procgen game while slamming another one -which haven`t even been released yet. That just plain don`t make any sense, apart from maybe the Civ being a sacred cow and all that.

Overall, it`s a clash of styles. Some people "get" why No Man`s Sky is the most promising AAA release in decades, others (majority?) like their Witchers better and seem terribly afraid of the other side.

Now, there shouldn`t be a reason why the two couldn`t coexist - (I play both, though I`m rather bored with scripted&linear worlds and seldom finish such games) but "reason" is not a much valued quality these days.
