Folks will be tuning in to the Olympics to simply believe it's actually happening in Rio. It's like slowing down at an accident to have a look.

Really? Somehow they managed to get through World Cup without one.

It`s true that Olympics etc are usually an unwanted pox promoted only by politicians and people standing to make big bucks out of it, but that Brasil-hate is just load of BS, especially coming from `Muricans.

The man is a hero our time needs. I`m just glad I got out of the pub game before the smartphone infection. It`s all about gastropubs now and hipster dives anyway.

Yes, it`s a bit of a dick move on the devs part, but it`s also pretty common. There`s heaps of games on GOG and Humble that don`t even get updated downloads once devs get on Steam. Quite sad really.

The game itself however is incredibly exciting and fresh. Finally somebody trying something new re: controls, combat & physics. Hopefully they will finish it some day since it`s a very ambitious undertaking.

Looks like another Dungeon Siege clone. Only now with more Vikings, because Game Of Thrones.

It really cracks me up that the game which is basically Elite/Pirates! of this generation - you know, titles that helped defined true PC gaming - is one of the most vilified.

These games also had no McGuffin waiting at the end - and yet back then people knew how to appreciate this kind of gameplay. Now, comedy experts like Ozomodan/Rhett/... manage to write it off based on words "procedural generation" and because some guy on Reddit said so. Meanwhile others report that "it`s possible to get to the Galaxy center in 30 hrs!" Man, do you really need to complete a game that hard?

Well, each to its own, I guess. Lol. The good news - for me, and others - are that 3 games out of the top 5 here are procedurally generated. One, Rimworld is already a masterpiece, NMS has a great chance to also be described as such. Behold, the procgen Apocalypse!

Amazing news. PSP still is an emulator paradise and Vita is of course much more powerful, so more systems will hopefully run in 1:1 quality.

Though I still think PSP Lite is just perfect, size-wise.

I`m really looking forward to the mental gymnastics the Boo Camp will have to go through to produce some excuses when this game refuses to flop (something that looks more and more likely every day).

What`s it gonna be lads? Gimme a taste already

It will be most likely one of the better AAA releases this year, but still... Original DE was released 15 years ago and had a groundbreaking design where you controlled the story through gameplay, had freedom of approach, etc. And all you get after all this time is slightly dumbed down (no leaning)/sexed up (takedowns) version of the original.

Boldly onwards towards Web 3.0, which will be 100% controlled, sanitized and free of any "negativity" or free thought. Pathetic.

Well, I hated the new AD. I think what could work better is if they made a total reboot with a new cast, but similar production style to the old one.

What were people expecting here, Mass Effect?

Of course. This is the major problem here and the main source of the unwarranted, baseless hate that this title is receiving (ignorance level: RNC).

Seems that a chunk of gaming public simply can not stand even a thought of allowing for any other playing style than Ye Ole scripted-linear-guided experiences that we have been mostly fed for over a decade. Watching this whole process is actually quite fascinating, from a psychological point of view.

It`s quite paradoxical too: back in the early days we dreamed of complex worlds infused with complex gameplay, and thought that only hardware is the limit. Turned out that what people really want is more polygons, safe corridors and "stories", not actual gaming systems and true freedom. Pretty sad, if you ask me.

There is indeed a lot riding on the success/failure of this game. If it sinks, we won`t see any other project of this kind in a AAA wrapper for a long time, it will be all strictly underground. If it succeeds however, it will hopefully inspire other major studios to borrow from the things it make it so exciting and fresh.

So just hoping that Hello Games didn`t mess the basics up. If they managed to get the trade, fighting etc on at least "okay" level, then this game will be a modern classic, well above all your Witchers, GTAs and suchlike.

$30 is a bit much for a game like this

It`s not. You buy a game that will literally last you for years and it never gets boring, the replay value is simply infinite.

There aren`t many titles like this outside roguelike genre, in fact probably none. Old Microprose games, maybe, but it was in another era/universe...

No Man's Sky is basically a single player game. Calling it multiplayer is a joke. The only reason for a internet connection is so they can call it multiplayer.

You mean so you can call it multiplayer - and bitch about NMS for yet another imaginary reason.

Over the years the devs went to lengths to explain it`s a single player experience with optional online element...

the sales on the Xbox were large

The sales were large because it was an AAA exclusive, on a console sorely lacking such titles. It also appealed to what some here like to call "console kiddie" demographic (over the top gore, gfx, protagonists)

The games itself are sort of fun, in a cartoony kinda way, however gameplay is very, very simplistic, compared to any proper FPS. If I was into MP these days I wouldn`t bother with this even for a minute, nor would any of the folks from my era.

But, times are changing so I have no idea how this will sell on PC, in 2016 it`s anybody`s guess.
