How could they fuck that up? :p

Not sure if serious...?

Reason why world does not need a Steambox, a modular Xbone or a-whatever is because there already is a machine occupying this vital space. It is called Custom PC (aka The King Of All Creation). It will always beat such pointless designs, as Valve learned the hard way and quite probably MS is set to follow.

The console/PC ecosystem works (worked?) just fine, unless you`re a raging member of the Master Race/Console kiddo camp. Some folks prefer fiddling with settings and extra horsepower, some don`t, they like slouching on couches with huge TVs and gamepads. Some do both. No need to meddle, though more quality exclusives (especially for X1) wouldn`t hurt.

The level design in the demo isn't very reassuring. It's exactly what I'd expect from procedurally generated levels: no real focus or direction, random objectives, etc.

So are they actually procedurally generated? If so I could start paying attention, though they`d need to tailor their design around this concept (permadeath, high score run mentality etc)

No, its just as easy either way. I don't really care what you call me, you're some twerp on the internet as far as I'm concerned. Whether there are 10,000 of you is irrelevant. I don't derive my identity from the judgements of others nor do I need only positive affirmation to sustain myself.

tl;dr spine up

I`m happy for you to have a "spine", be a tough cookie and all that. However by "harassment" I understand the real thing, not for example some old timers snapping at each other like we do here.

Have you ever received death threats, been hit by sustained hate campaign, experienced "swatting", been doxxed etc etc? No? Okay then, let`s talk about spining up when you had.

Extra points for being gay, teenager, somebody new to the tubes.

You missed that bit there mate.

You guys can rage against walking sims - and I`m not a fan either - but at least they`re honest. LA Noire was a stinking turd which pretending to be a game while it`s core mechanic - interrogation - had absolutely no meaning since you could not fail it.

This kind of "design" is poison for real gameplay.

Remaster with cosmetic changes like adequate gfx and gamepad support and nothing changed in original design? Hmmmm...okay.

System Shock 3, made by people who were on original team and have heaps of experience and the vision? Well, why not. Could work.

"Reboot" by some bunch of nobodies? Hands off!

Why? Nobody even bothers mentioning AI anymore. "Visceral gfx! "tactical combat!"...yeah...but AI?

One to look forward, to, even if flawed at least it`s an attempt at something different.

The whole Whore thing stank of "another smoke & mirrors BS" from inception, I doubt it was ever even in a production stage.

Logic has no place in the world of smartphone propagation. The masses demand new toys every year so the big boys can get away with anything. No fone jack and your music is now DRM`d (well, if it`s even possible in the i-world)? No matter! My ifone now looks "cleaner"...or so I`ve been told.

If you think not liking a site that's full of some of the most arrogant writers in the industry, regularly attacks their audience, goes to paid review events to not do their job (look up Colin Campbell's "preview" of Rock Band 4) and is littered with conflicts of interest is just me being an MRA, congratulations, you're part of the problem and why those who are actually making a reasoned fight for equality are being lumped in with outrage warriors. Grow up.

Wait, so your comment was actually part of the "reasoned fight for equality"? Excuse me while I pinch myself, hard.

Okay, no, sorry still can`t see it. Maybe I am a part of the problem. However what I see is a litany of cookie cutter accusations which at some point were leveled at every single big gaming website out there: be it IGN, Gamespot, Eurogamer, what have you. If this is your true angle, then it is teenage angst at its best, and you`re telling me to grow up? *eyeroll*

Now back to the topic: if you`re still claiming your only beef with K & P is their lame journalism, fine, however would you also deny that these were singled out recently especially because of their stance in the GG and other SJW causes? Can you do it and prove your "reasonable fighter" credentials?

Especially when the local mouthbreathers (hi NKD/Cpmartins) are listening closely?

So why do people want half life 3 so badly?

Prosaic reasons: It`s a very well reviewed FPS with huge following, Valve has a big rep, the game big potential (on paper at least). These are the facts - even though I completely agree that HL2 was forgettable.

Meta-reasons: people love to believe in something and Valve provides a quasi-religious narrative with HL3 being the Holy Grail.

Realistically , of course Valve is aware of the whole hype train. It might work for them since people are not pissed off about its non-existence (see above). Also they must know that it`d be extremely difficult to top up the hype. Do they have the tech and innovation? When was the last time they actually wrote a game instead of just buying up studios/mods?

I wouldn`t mind a well polished shooter with really good story/vibe/setpieces a la original Half Life. I don`t think they can challenge in Crysis/Halo/Far Cry open world style, though wouldn`t mind being proven wrong...

One of the problems is Bethesda benefits in some ways due to the mod theft.

It was getting kind of worried: I haven`t read anything really dumb today! Quick! Bethesda thread to the rescue!

Sure buddy, BethS are a bunch of villains sitting in their lair, stroking a cat, and seeing "how far they can push it". And they`re so so dumb they really think that a massive shitstorm regarding the mod theft is great advertising. HAHA on them! I`m not sure how their anti-theft initiative fits into this devilish scheme but I`m sure you can work it in somehow (oh wait, somebody already did: it`s a cover up!)

Seriously...I ain`t no saint and I like a good ol` argument and/or a whine - especially about corporate shenanigans - but some of you folks have the HATE dialed up right to 11, clouding your vision and all that. Sort of like the dude below who says he "would never mod for consoles" and then goes on about how sharing is great. Sweet Jaysis
