7. Re: Saturday Tech Bits - VR for the 1% May 29, 2016, 07:54 Bub

So if your in the 1%, it will cost you at least between $1 to $2K to gear up for VR.

Unless PC components come way down in price, wearable VR, is a long way off for the general consumer.

VR travel could do to tourism what ebooks have done to books if it ever gets ubiquitous.

Using the con "proceduraly generated" as centerpiece for selling the game is a tip off that one - they don't have any real game play to offer, and two - they are looking make what they can off initial AAA full price sales before the word on the street gets out on just how little game play there is.

That and all the planets spammed with four letter names.

Proceduraly generated is like playing the card game solitaire. After shuffling, the order the cards come out different every time, but there are no surprises, in that you know each card when you see it.

Anarchy Online was the most fun MMO I ever played, that is until, 99% of the player base dried up. I think most people quit because Funcom was no longer providing meaningful updates to the game, but putting their resources into new games.

Why they continue to focus on a barbarian themed flop instead 0f modernizing Anarchy Online is a mystery to me. At it's height AO was quite popular and the world was full of players and a thriving economy.

Who wants to bet they go the Activision/Blizzard route and focus on the current game style of the decade like MOBAS and card games.

I wear glasses (used to wear contacts until they became painful) and recently got a chance to try out the Occulus gear at an art installation in the Saint Petersburg FL, Dali Museum.

The experience sold me on VR, but I can see that games will have to be designed from the ground up to make it more than a gimmick like movie 3D.

The headset fit over my glasses with no problem and were quite comfortable. Maybe your set of glasses are too big, i.e. wide.

Imagine if you walked into your local supermarket and wanted to buy a box of your favorite cereal. But they won't sell you one box, they want you to sign up for a subscription, of one box a month, plus a shopping cart full of groceries you don't want, food you hate, and crappy quality junk food you would never buy on your own. All of this for 10 to 20 times what a single box of cereal would cost.

Cable companies steal and rob, so I don't have much sympathy when the circle comes around and bites them.

Steam requires you to have buy the game from them and to have installed and played it, before they allow you to enter a review.

So thousands of morons dog-pile-ing, in a huge group bash, is not a thing.

This is a great example of a buggy whip maker, dissing those weird new horseless carriages.

Pretty good send up of game companies, it only left out microtransactions and pay to win.

DOW I was a masterpiece, DOW II was the pits. DOW I had large expansive maps, DOW II had tiny maps designed and scripted like MOBA lanes.

When companies know their game is crap, they resort to CGI only promos.
Given the complete use of CGI to market this, DOW III must be like II or worse.

This rocks!

Glad to see some decent GamesWorkshop IP releases that are not total schlock for a change. SpaceMarines was great and this looks fantastic.

This gets my juices flowing while the new Doom is just meh!

I like all the female stars of the movie. I like the franchise.

I believe in gender equality. but this promo really falls flat.

It has potential and it's moments, and I really would like to see Emily Blunt in a comedy role.

I don't see what the fuss is about, the original Ghostbusters had a gread theme song, and while it was in sync with it's times, it really was not the greatest movie ever made and had it's share of flat, or sophomoric scenes.

There is no news here, Hollywood cranks out another formula rerun, so what is new?

It is really sad how the millennials have twisted themselves during their college years.

We fought for civil rights, to end the Vietnam war, and non-violence.

They fight against freedom of speech and association.

Eye candy like the flashing orange and blue, instead of convincing looking rag doll damage or stagger/stunned animations, is just plain lame.

And who asked for Doom environments to look like Unreal Tournament levels?

What happened to the jump scares and the dark spooky low visibility places?

Looks like UT in high def than DOOM.

Twitter is just a crappy "app" that mimics RSS, but is more complicated.

The most closely held company secret is the actual number of views, followed by the actual number of individuals who have tweeted in the last 30 days.

I tried it for a while, but following anyone becomes a chore, like an extra stream of short emails that for the most part are a waste of space.

While Hearthstone just made 50 million registered players, Activision is too busy 24/7 just trying to process the influx of cash, to seriously consider putting significant resources into WOW.

Read my lips, that's nice dear, we will see, later...

Corporations started dismantling the US Constitution with the Civil War and they are just about finished now.

They won. Just look at politics, a punch and judy show with no relation to Corporate friendly policy they dictate to whichever clown is in office.

This looks good. I love 40K.

But I will wait until, 1)the price is not so proud, 2)I replace my 2009 computer in 2019 with a new rig, before buying CPU eating monsters like this.
