And the founding fathers thought they had dealt with the likes of the East India company in the constitution, but sadly they never dreamed of what today's multinationals are. They own the copyright office.

This is madness, saying copyright includes dictation your behavior in any way that does not involve theft.

3. Re: Morning Tech Bits - Mint Aug 5, 2016, 07:39 Bub

A few months ago, my computers main hard drive failed, so after getting a fresh new drive, I decided to take the plunge and install Mint.

Typical Linux hell followed. It did not support my computers mouse and only partially supported my graphics and monitor. No amount of googling turned up any useful information to solve these issues, so I went back to Win7 which "just works" on any box.

Once again the lawyers at Comcast seek to bamboozle the feds and everyone else by first pretending that they won't still spy on you if you pay them for this protection (of privacy) racket. I can't see how they can say that with a straight face.

They casually imply they have every right in the world to spy on people and sell that data to the highest bidder.

The communications corporations are getting bolder, a few decades ago they would have never dreamed of making you pay extra for your phone line if you wanted to keep your conversations private.

I wonder what the person who wrote that sorry excuse of a press will care to remember it and bring it up at their judgement day.

Stunt Island all over again.

I bought Stunt Island and played it for years, at least until Disney stopped selling/supporting it, so when I saw INfinity come out, I remembered what Disney did with SI, so I steered clear of Infinity.
It looked like a lot of fun, but way too proud in price for the short life span of the game.

I am excited somewhat about the new transmog system, but the class changes not at all. I am still working on my rogues skills and rotations, and now they are going to jumble skills up take away a few and add a few, yuk. I have yet to see an MMO skill rework that was a real major gameplay improvement, usually its just a mish mash of meaningless changes. In this case I think Blizz is determined to eventually release a console version so skills get trimmed, views standardized to be console compatible, etc.

These enterprise level filters cost big bucks annually.

Thank the prudes for the cost of a burger going even higher.

Filters are a slippery slope to censorship.

Guess you art students won't be viewing some masterpieces in these fast food places.

Blizz/Activision seems to be a "unfair advantage" jag at the moment. They just got through messing with WOW's zoom out parameters, locking it way down from what it was.

I think these moves are coming from some corporate VP's desire to consolize everything.

After the wholesale data spying, my biggest concern with Win10 is the exclusion of a native media player, recorder, etc.

My guess is they have something waiting in the wings that is way more locked down and phones home if you ever try to copy any digital media.

They won't introduce it until they have conned Win10 pnto enough machines, as to do so now with such limitations would further stop Win10 adoption.

Not only that but Win10 can decide that any other digital media software you try to install is "not compatible" and refuse to install it, or refuse to let it work if installed.

This seems to be a trend now with multiplayer online games. The player pools just are not that big and the companies are so desperate to have them populated, at least to give their paying customers real opponents that they are going free to play combat.

There are tons of multiplayer combat games on Steam that have comments that the multiplayer has very few players online.

Given MS's behavior the last few years post Bill, I am pretty cynical as to what ends they will put this input. Most likely it is to craft the spin of their marketing efforts rather than actually improving the value of the product to the customer, instead of cramming it with surveillance and lock-downs.

This whole buy chances to get something thing needs to bet nipped in the bud before it creeps its way into day to day commerce. Imagine having to buy at least 50 chances for a Big Mac at 25 cents a chance in order to be reasonably secure in getting your lunch.

23. Re: Anarchy Online Turns 15 Jun 28, 2016, 07:33 Bub

My highest toon was a bureaucrat (Funcom had a twisted sense of humor).
One of my spells was "red tape".
The Crat, in addition to a robot "pet" could take control of most mobs in the wild and then use them as an additional pet to attack etc.

The implants and gear were really fun, so many stat combinations, and a complicated noob unfriendly way of mini-maxing.

The best thing about AO was the community. About 10 or so guildmates, converged to my toon and buffed and lent me stuff so I could equip a very sought after weapon.

I only reason I quit about 5 years ago was the player base just got too thin, very few active guilds, and you would rarely see another player.

Society looks the other way when churches and other mostly non profit organizations hold raffles or run bingo games to raise money for a good cause.

Online games have sort of over the years eased into this territory with various forms of gambling, like selling "surprise/mystery boxes", i.e. chances to win something that can be traded for real cash.

If they get away with this, expect to see more of this to creep into all of your everyday commerce. Milk surprise boxes, 25 cents, but you have to buy 20 or 30 to actually get 1 milk and 29 empty boxes.

I consider assault guns weapons of mass destruction.

The founding fathers were talking about one shot weapons that took ages to reload, not devices that any fool can use to spray death into a crowd like assault guns do.

We already prevent 50 cal machine guns from private use, it's time assault weapons were treated that same.

Just pray the auto industry does not pick up on this scam.

The sales man tells you just before you drive off in your new car:
Oh be carefull to not drive more than 30 miles a week or the cars computer will lock it up untill you pay us for going over the mileage cap.

MS shoots self in foot, details at 11.

This is like if Microsoft bought up Visicalc (The first spreadsheet), and then prohibited its use in the office or business.
