Smart is becoming the Ralph Nader of the pc games sphere.
Sounds like the implosion has begun at SC.

Being funded by mostly whales, means they will eventually make the game free to play, just so the whales have some peasants to blow away.

The card game sounds like pay to win to me. Would have been a great space shooter otherwise.

Tip O the Hat to Bluesnews for highlightng these freebies.

I don't normally play side scrollers, but Abe's Oddysee has always peaked my interest due to its quirky funky character.

Added to my collection for a rainy day.

When I look at my collections at Steam, Origin, Gog etc., I am amazed at the number of quality games I can play while not having to break the bank to do so.

News Comments > Op Ed
73. Re: Op Ed CR and SC are just the tip Sep 23, 2015, 11:17 Bub

I think Chris Roberts and Star Citizen are just the tip of the iceberg.
SC is the most obvious egregious and over-bloated example.

Crowdfunding and 'early access' are just too risk free and attractive to fast buck fly-by-nighters. No over-site, no accountability, promise anything, deliver unfinished or low quality product. The states and FCC need to do a full review of these practices and issue regulations the provide the same protections as other consumer purchases.

Check the comments for many of the early access games at Steam. You will repeatedly see comments to the effect that after a year or more, the early access game has not received any perceivable improvement or polish.

This gives the appearance that these games are really not in development but unfinished projects from game companies that folded and sold off the assets at a bargain price. Some fast talker buys the property, slaps 'early access' on it and gets a revenue stream from gamers who think they are buying into a living growing game.

A year or two later, when the product is still the same, they realize they have been fooled, and this hurts the sales of all games.

Looks mildly interesting, however, the whole moving sun thing always bugs me. In games that have it, I can't think of anytime it added to the gameplay, other than changing the overall illumination of places.
Usually these games end up lacking in some other department, like generic seen one seen them all enemies. Or most of the environment is just a painting with doors, and windows you can't enter.

1. Re: Evening Crowdfunding Roundup: Kickstarter Holyness Sep 22, 2015, 08:07 Bub

Luv how the Kickstarter honchos are painting themselves as holy holies, while their system perpetrates scams like Star Citizen and other "early access" type games. I don't see them requiring the users of the site to post information frequently like stocks have to. They have essentially created a stock market with virtually no rules or regulation, so slick guys can soak many for millions.

Its is interesting how the person chose their words. They were very careful not to say that such objects would be undetectable since the film only reflects like a flat image. If you covered a rabbit with this, you would see a patch of blue sky, where the rabbit is.

Close, but no banana.

Why anyone is attracted to these animated presentations of board games is beyond me when you have things like the Total War series. Staring at stat plaques and 2d maps just seems really boring.

8. Re: Total War: WARHAMMER Gameplay Footage Sep 18, 2015, 08:02 Bub

I found Dawn of War pretty formulaic and predictable, and therefore boring. I loved the units but there wasn't any replay value.

I think the Total War approach using 40k units would be awesome and I would sign up for it in a minute. I am already sold on this one, go slayers!

The fist few characters that were revealed about this game made me thing they really didn't get Warhammer so I was sitting on the fence with this, but with the inclusion of the slayers, I am sold. I love the slayer series of stories and the individuals involved. First Total War game I have really been interested in. Before it was pretty faceless copy paste manakins in formation, but this looks way more fun.

Read the mostly rational and objective negative comments at Steam.
Looks like another example of some fly-by-night fast buck guy buying up a unfinished bankrupt game and trying to make a few bucks passing it off as "Early Access".

Some many of these, never get finished, or even patched. Steam needs to tighten up its Early Access to toss games that don't deliver in a set period of time.

Give-aways for logging in are always a tell tale sign of declining player base. A lame management move to inflate the current months numbers they are required to file each month.

Typical PR Hack writing breathlessly about a topic they know nothing about. Personalized characters has been a staple of just about every online MMO since they started.

I see no secret sauce here that differentiates itself for an alreay crowded market and a dwindling player base. Why spend your time in a blocky pre 80s graphics clunker?

Minecraft is primarily a single person, or small group on a private server kind of game. This is going nowhere fast.

25. Re: Amnesia Free on Steam Sep 16, 2015, 07:18 Bub

This is the primary reason I stop here every day. Steam lets me know when there are free offers at Steam or elsewhere.

These sites are pretty boring to visit on a daily basis, and the home pages are usually just adds for stuff I don't care about, so Bluesnews is a real godsend.

All the gosssip and insider game info is worth reading too.
Keep up the good work!

Gambling has found the digital generations sucker play.

It seems like every online game now has this cheesy form of gambling in the cash shops. They go by different names, Packs, Mystery Boxes, etc. You pay cash for an package containing one or several items, with a very small chance it might be something of value. Game boards are full of "I bought X hundred packs and only got worthless items" posts. There are also the braggarts that show off their lucky find, that they always claim was in the ONLY pack they bought, when they actually, bought hundreds on a daily basis for weeks.

This really needs to be regulated.

Wait till this hits the home shopping network or Amazon.

One of the saddest developments today and makes me lose respect for GOG.
