One form of Denuvo got cracked a year ago....then it was improved and its been uncrackable again for months.

Of course this is what people said when Splinter Cell Chaos Theory was uncrackable for a year due to Starforce. It doesn't mean piracy is over.

ACIII wasn't bad. It was probably their most ambitious game to date from a world-building perspective, and it was paced pretty well.

AC3 was a turd and there was nothing ambitious about it. They subbed out building textures for trees and attempted to shoehorn Connor in every major event of the period, not to mention Desmonds story long overstaying its welcome. Good pacing my ass, your taste sucks.

There are several areas of Rise of the Tomb Raider with framerate drops, particularly anything with snow deformation. It affects all Xbox One consoles, no one got a magical one that lacks the issue. Ignorance is bliss I guess.

Putting it on the PS4 might not have made any difference though, Crystal Dynamic were targeting high "cost" features like SSAO and AF. The PS4 is more powerful than an Xbox One but it probably would've hit similar issues.

So is the DLC that makes it good? Given how bad the original game is they should be giving these things away.

The game is fine, you're just super bad at it. I recall you whining about how hard it was and how you couldn't pause because reading the options for 10 seconds and seeing the 5+ different ways to pause is too difficult. So stop sucking at the fucking game then coming here to whine about it.

My other complaint is the utter gutting of the modern story. They listened to the crybullies who just wanted some historical game with no modern tie in

Fuck that, the modern story sucked and the games have been better off without it. It was poorly written, the pacing was bad, the characters were awful and the fourth wall breakage in Black Flag was shameful. Unity and Syndicate would not have been better with an expanded modern story unless it was attempted by much better writers than Ubisoft has on staff. The games are not failed by the lack of a modern story character to get invested in but by the quality of the writing for the characters in general. It's no surprise when you look at other Ubisoft games.

The Unity technical problems got a lot of press but I think the AC sales juggernaut slowing down has a much simpler answer. People are just tired of the volume of Assassin's Creed games. Why get Syndicate if they can just wait for the next one they know is coming in 6 months? When you don't take any creative risks with the mechanics for so many iterations you can't expect to keep people around forever.

I like AC games, simple mechanics and dumb little time wasting power fantasies. They have been a guilty pleasure in the past but I can only play the same thing with minor changes so many times. Nothing wrong with that, I don't expect franchises to go on forever because that leads to stale fucking shit. The only people with that expectation are shareholders and executives who only care about the monies.

And they really need to do something about the core gameplay, because it's just gotten stale.

The initial rumor claims that the core gameplay mechanics are getting a complete make over which is why it would not release in 2016. They mention some RPG/adventure inspired mechanics specifically.

Many people don't buy traditional PCs at all anymore. My new girlfriend has a Macbook Pro and shes never going back to a desktop. That's a bunch of market share they can't chase unless they get into OSX and Linux ports. Valve is smart, like you said they are slowly creating a viable alternative to Windows gaming. There are already 1200+ games that we didn't have a year ago. That number will keep growing. As it grows so will attention to drivers from Nvidia and AMD which will help out the transition significantly.

PC gaming is supposed to be about choice and options. The idiotic attitude where you should only use one OS is borne from fear of change. Stuff like this is only good for consumers in general and that's all it is, an option.

The worst case scenario for Valve is a total shift to mobile platforms. Microsoft isn't doing itself any favors on the PC so that's not a real concern, they are so desperate to convert people to Windows 10 that they're trying to force it on them through Windows Update. Mobile is the real threat now, many publishers can't ignore that revenue stream from shitty IAP games.

Windows works fine. All games are compatible with it. I don't give a fuck about spying and Edward Snowden shouldn't have tried to be a fucking hero. That went off topic.

All I know is that Win10 works flawlessly and Windows updates (oooo Illuminati!) actually fix stability issues.

I have no problem with Windows because I have no problems with it. Never had. Linux hipsters are fine. But Linux hipsters that are gamers, sound crazy to me.

There's nothing hip about running Linux, its the opposite of hip. It's dense and requires an attention span. You have no idea what is in your Windows Updates nor what they do, you never delve beyond the surface of anything at all. Merry Christmas clueless gamer

Why are we Windows "fanboys"? Easy: because it WORKS!

I read your comment, and all I was thinking the entire time was: What did Windows ever do to you, that you would avoid it so religiously? It's like choosing to live your life in a wheelchair because you're pissed off at something your legs did when you were younger.

These days Windows just SPIES and you can't even disable it. It also forces you to slurp whatever updates they want and you no longer have any control. Some people might want to use their PC for something other than being an advertising metric for Microsoft. It's ok to admit you don't understand Linux too BTW, it takes more than 10 seconds to learn and appreciate which is probably too long for many people. Sorry that Linux took your lunch money.

It takes hundreds of millions of dollars in research for each new proc generation. AMD has made some bad choices, but things like Bulldozer were done because they didn't have the money to do traditional prediction research, so they gambled. And lost. But those things were done because Intel cheated them out of market share and revenue, not the other way around. Intel cheated its way into a dominant position, and has held onto it. But think of the procs we might have if Intel and AMD were able to compete for real.

What kind of revisionist history is this? AMD "gambled" by selling its most important fucking fabs and by doubling down on bad designs that were already behind Intel equivalents. It also was lax in leveraging server market chips and had several failed designs back to back which left it in the dust and out of consideration. You can argue that Intel bullied it around in several marketplaces but that's just one small piece of the pie, AMD had several major fuckups which had far more impact than anything Intel did.

AMD is getting pounded because they are mismanaged and suck, ask any of the ex-employees we have around here. They are a rudderless ship and have been for some time. The closest they came to real success since the Athlon was buying ATI and attempting to get ahead of Nvidia and mobile integrators for small chipsets. Too bad they completely lacked the expertise and focus, they took on a lot of debt to buy ATI and it turned out to be pretty pointless for the companys direction. ATI is still barely integrated into their product lines in any meaningful way and they totally missed the boat on mobile graphics which could've reinvented the company.

The Intel I7 3820 sits virtually neck in neck for performance with the FX3850. The I7 is currently listed at $432 bucks. The latter I just picked up for $200. If I'm going to pay twice as much for something it better be twice as good. It's not, so what the hell are you paying for beyond branding? If people want to throw money away needlessly on Intel and Nvidia be my guest, I have other things I'd rather waste my money on.

No one is buying an i7-3820, they'd buy an i5 and even the low end i5 going back a generation destroy it. And no the FX isn't anywhere close in IPC, you're cherry picking benchmarks. There's a reason I ditched mine, you will learn the hard way.

Intel suppressed their sales for years using uncompetitive practices. They got fined for it but damage done . AMD still hasn't recovered from that.

No they don't get to skate on that anymore, their R&D has sucked for years and we're going back to when they had resources. They just keep making all the wrong moves, about the only smart thing they've done in the past 10 years is buy ATI.

I just got fed up with my so called 8 core AMD box (its effectively 4 cores due to shared modules) and swapped it out for a Skylake Intel CPU. Absolutely crushes it in every single metric. So pleased with the performance, can't say I will ever go back to AMD unless I'm broke. I was going to use this fake 8 core monster in a file server or something but its power use is pretty excessive so I'm not even sure that's a good fit. I will probably put it up on kijiji but AMD doesn't hold much resale value for reasons I'm now understanding better.

I might give AMD a shot on the video card front again sometime soon though, the 980TIs are insanely expensive.

Android sucks unless you are willing to put in the effort of jailbreaking or rooting your phone)

This is completely incorrect, Android is fine and arguably the most advanced smartphone OS right out of the box. Rooting is a thing of the past, you don't really need it do much anymore beyond whole device backups and farting around with pirated apps. The problem with Android is that its left up to OEMs so the user experience depends on the implementation and the device.

Windows Phone isn't popular because people got sick of being burned by Microsoft, both OEMs and customers. Comparing a current WP phone with 3 generation old iPhones and Android phones is a common thing I see on messageboards, only way they make parity. There is no going back for Windows phone, its done like dinner. Enjoy your Nokia while it lasts, speaking of done like dinner..

Remember when Steam sales were good?

I've been checking prices on isthereanydeal against historicals and most of them are at all time lows, no idea what you're talking about. I think some people just have unrealistic expectations, as if you're going to get Fallout 4 for $20 when its in high demand and just came out.

But by all means go buy your games on these random sites who supposedly have better deals then. That's what being a consumer is all about, get the best deal for yourself. If its true then go grab it, eventually Steam will be forced to compete.
