I bought Project CARS last night after I noticed it worked with TrackIR 5. It's excellent. But I'm using a keyboard... I'm getting that urge to buy a Logitech G27...!!
I had an old Thrustmaster Nascar Pro Digital 2 or something. It was cheap to buy and cheaply made, but I sure as hell got some use out of it. Need For Speed Underground 2, Hot Pursuit, Shift and Shift 2, that wheel carried me through. I wore through the silver paint on the plastic pedals... Maybe a year ago I pulled the trigger on a G27 and never looked back.
Where it is plastic, it feels solid, and most of the important moving parts are metal. The leather and steel wheel feels high quality. based on the quality of my old wheel compared to my new wheel, I can see this taking me through the next decade at least.
The only real flaw of the wheel is it has a bit of a force feedback deadzone when driving straight. I've heard this was to preserve the life of the motors. One of the pluses though, is that most games/sims have supported G27 for years, and probably will well into the future.
If you want a cheaper option that is a vast improvement over the keyboard, you could look at getting a Logitech f310 gamepad. At least when you have analog sticks, and triggers, you can turn by varying degrees, rather than all the way on or off steering/throttle.
My 2 cents.
