"He waited to hear from any of his players; no one got in touch."

No one got in touch?

Really?

How rude!

They should at least have said something along the lines of:

"Say, did you mean to send me that video of you masturbating?"

Or, to be even more polite:

"Thank you for sending me that video of you masturbating."

That's what's wrong with kids these days. No manners.

EDIT: Forgot to mention that the use of the word "touch" in this context is an odd choice for the writer to make.

How the hell am I supposed to respond to this? You have nothing to say, and you say it a lot. You're obviously too stupid to understand that living a moral life is not always the same as living a law-abiding life.

At one point in the U.S. it was against the law for black people to use drinking fountains labeled "for whites only." A lot of people went to jail for breaking that law. And then as now your fat ass would be standing on the sidelines shaking your finger at them and saying "You did something illegal. Two wrongs don't make a right. Bla bla bla bla bla."

It must be easier than actually thinking, huh? Or living a moral life, for that matter. Dumbass.

You're just a fucking dumbass, dude. You believe what you read in the mass media and then regurgitate it all back in posts like the one above.

Tell me. Exactly how does anonymous line "their own pockets" by going after gang rapists?

A lot of money in that, is there?

Me for one.

There was a hilarious parody S.T.A.L.K.E.R 2 video that I saw a long time ago--terrible graphics, watered down gameplay, and about half way through a flashing message at the top of the screen that says "No Internet Connection--Disconnecting Game" this in response to GSC's interest in online DRM ...

Did anybody else ever see this? Just went looking for it on youtube and all I got was a bunch of bullshit Justin Bieber videos ...

There's no shortage of Stalker fans who don't like the "Complete" mods, though I think they're well worth it and a solid accomplishment.

Still having said that it's nothing compared to Misery, which is an overhaul. Some of the guys in this thread going on about recoil and bleeding would probably wet their pants with joy and dread in Misery.

I'm sure the mods got better and more complex as time went on--but how many years after STALKER was released did Misery come out? Redux was released not long after the actual game was--so comparing the features it had then to the features a mod might have now somewhat misses the point--it's like saying "Doom was nothing! Look how many features Destiny has!"

I've played (through the entire game each time) Oblivion Lost, Lost Alpha, Complete and Redux. Hilarious there are so many die-hards for one or the other on here. They all have their strong points, and just show how amazing Stalker was to begin with.

Couldn't agree more and this thread has inspired me to try some of those I missed, like Complete and Misery. (Didn't care for Lost Alpha though).

Sorry, but in this instance, you are mistaken:

http://www.moddb.com/games/stalker/downloads/redux-102-zrp-105-r10-merge

I remember very clearly, because the buzz around STALKER had been going for--it felt like years since the first screenshots were released. And then it finally came out and it was good but Redux made it excellent.

Redux by itself was the single best mod I have ever used. The attention those guys put into nailing every single thing they could in terms of accuracy ... just amazing.

If you haven't tried the first STALKER with Redux, I strongly urge you to.

EDIT: Actually, double checking that link, I'm not sure that's the right mod ... It is called "Redux" and it is for the first STALKER, but I don't recognize the name of the person who uploaded it and is apparently claiming it as theirs ... The Redux I played was put together by a team of people, had its own webpage, forum, etc.

Thanks, but no thanks. There is only one Stalker mod, and that's the "complete" one. It's regarded as the single most important addition to the series and until this day, I've never seen a Stalker fan who used any other mod other than complete. This redux nonsense is new to me.

I highly advise you remove redux and see what you're really missing:

http://www.moddb.com/mods/stalker-complete-2009

Hold up there, sonny. You might not want to come out 'guns-a-blazin' every time, considering you just shot yourself in the foot the LAST time ("There is no Redux mod for STALKER.")

Just because you don't know about a thing, doesn't make it "nonsense."

Redux is my favorite mod, as well. It's an extreme realism/difficulty mod that was also adapted for Call of Pripyat. Although the crazy, over-the-top, everything-and-the-kitchen-sink mods were fun in their own right.

Glad someone else had the same experience I did!

Did the original team of people do the adaptation? If so, then that's all the excuse I need to play Pripyat ... I never got around to it, because by the time I finally finished the first game, I was "STALKER-ed out," so to speak.

There's only one other mod that comes close, in my mind, to Redux, and that is Reality Enhancement, for Crysis. It was made by Solecist, and, if I'm not mistaken, he was on the original Redux team. Better physics, bullet drop, realistic penetration, damage, ragdoll ... that mod had everything.

The first STALKER with the Redux mod ... Some the BEST tactical shooting I've ever experienced, bar none. And that was just the A.I.. Loved how you could shoot an enemy but not kill them, only to have them bleed out about 30 seconds later. Same thing could happen to you as well. The gun battle in the brick farm house ... Ah, memories. Great, great game.

PS: If this isn't the nail in the coffin for West Games, I don't know what will be.

Always down for a literary quote, especially when I didn't know it was from Dylan Thomas (thought Shakespeare, for some reason).

Anyway--this looks awesome. Loved Dead Island and this looks to be like a faster, more graphically impressive version of it. Hope they don't clutter the screen up with a bunch of HUD items and other hand-holding bullshit ("See zombies through walls!" Wait a minute ... what? Why is it wrong to judge the morality of a game that celebrates mass murder, but it's perfectly fine to judge the morality of a game that celebrates people having sex?

Can you explain that to me? I mean, other than the fact that's just how it is here in the good old fucked up U.S.A.?

Do you think it would be wrong of me--since I really do loathe this game and the people who made it--if I bought a copy, just to mod it so that the main character is a naked man wearing only pantyhose--then sent my version of the game to HorrorScope?

Would that be unethical?

The analogy is right there in your post. Never mind the fact that the North Korean agents are acting under orders from their government and couldn't care less about social justice, if they are even aware of such a term.

Are you kidding? Do you know anything at all about North Korea?

Or is it the meaning of the term "social justice," that you don't understand?

North Korea is the absolute epitome of the totalitarian state, where the "Dear Leader" is treated as a god. The only value that the government of NK has, and the only value they wish to impose on their populace, is absolute obedience. They are willing to create, and already have created, mass starvation in their society.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure "social justice" doesn't rank very high on their list of priorities.

Heh.

The trailer made me feel disgust. The brutality of the theme is offensive to me. However, I don't advocate censorship of things I find offensive. I need better reasons than just "I'm disgusted" or "I'm offended" to want censorship.

Give us better arguments than the above as to why anything should be banned or removed or censored.

We have to keep our arguments straight here. When Valve first announced that they weren't going to greenlight this POS, many people were crying "censorship," which is just bullshit.

There's a little mom and pop grocery store down the street from my house. They carry an assortment of magazines. But they don't carry my FAVORITE magazine ... which is Hustler! I asked them to carry it and THEY WON'T DO IT!!!!

Censorship! They are CENSORING my ability to buy Hustler from them! Taking away my FREEDOM! Waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa!

That's essentially the same argument people were making when they were crying "censorship" about Valve's initial decision not to carry this game. Because they don't even know what the word means (There's been a lot of that going around in the gaming community lately ... people using terms like "ethics" and "journalism" and "review" without having the faintest fucking clue what those terms actually mean ... )

Despite my little Hustler tantrum posted above, the truth is that little mom and pop store has EVERY right not to carry Hustler magazine, no matter how sad this makes me. They are a private business and get to decide what they will and will not carry. Same as Valve.

Now, I'm one of the people who DOESN'T think Valve should carry this game. And if given the opportunity to let them know how I feel, I would definitely take it.

So is THAT censorship?

Fuck no! If started lobbying politicians to pass a law that would BAN Valve from carrying this game, or prevent ANYONE from selling it ... THAT would be censorship.

Unfortunately little nuances like that tend to get lost when the topic of "censorship" comes up ... because people feel passionately about it, without really knowing what they're talking about.
