Tropico 4 gave me severe buyers remorse. I played the shit for an hour before I got bored. It is incredibly easy. I would have to try to lose to fail.

It's too bad they have no desire to finish this game. It is actually a good concept. I'm just glad I didn't pay any money for it.

I'm not going to look up anything Asian MMO related at work. Can you travel the whole world without loading screens? I seriously doubt it.

My biggest question about this game is the engine. It has never been proven capable of doing the things that a game like SC would require like massive open areas with planets, space stations, etc. Even if they manage to make it work, how will it run on modern PC's? I wouldn't be surprised if the whole thing comes crashing down eventually. I would really like to see a game of this type succeed, but I am extremely skeptical.

I agree that the chosen engine has never been used in such a role. I take a bit of comfort with the fact that they've got a support line from Crytek. That said, I expect some limitations.

From what I know:

- There's no atmospheric flight. Landing on planets is a cut scene.
- There are going to be instanced space sectors and there's a hard limit to how many players can be in the same instance.
- Loading screens when switching from one space sector to the next.

It would be nice if every SC comment thread were linked. Star Citizen is mentioned at least once a week on here, and every time a new comments thread is created. In this thread, people just repeat the same tired points.

Never the less. Go search Foundry42 on youtube. They are the ones working on SQ42 and they show a little bit of that code you want so badly. Though you do a lot of assuming with no facts? is that a thing around here on blue news for some?

Edit: I'll do it for you. Also its not 2014, its early 2015 now. (Everything is subject to change)

Gah, I really hope there are no turret sequences. /Please/ tell me there are no turret sequences! I will hurt puppies and kittens if I have to experience this sort of gameplay again.

Such is life of the ill informed..*sticks head in sand* (Its not even Alpha or Bets, its pre alpha so it makes it even worse)

Though that's what they want us to find is Bugs and to come across crashes. So they can fix them, and they have their own Q&A team to boot. (A very small one, the community is the much larger Q&A for free no less )

Hopefully it will be a little/lot more polished and stable in 2 to 3 weeks.

Alpha, Beta, Charlie. It doesn't matter what they call it, it's an official release to the public. It has to work to a reasonable level. If they release a broken mess, they deserve all the criticism.

Ok, fine. The fans that keep pouring money into this non-stop are koo-koo to, but then again they probably are filthy rich and money is no object and if the game doesn't happen they'll take the Ferrari out for a spin instead.

But that's what we do here. We get the news, we get some details, run it through the shredder and come up with off the cuff remarks.

To a general gamer is looks like a million dollars for a towel and the next million if could be a million dollars for an outfit. What does a general game outsider supposed to think? We knock EA routinely and they don't even have stuff in this bizarro stratosphere.

But I won't question your extended details, but this is what makes it out to the wild and the comments can be hardly surprising.

"Still I know many of you will remain skeptic and that is good because we should never blindly believe in a for profit company."

Yes to that. Nothing more.

Not the case according to my first hand accounts. They're normal people looking forward to their next paycheck so they can buy the next new ship to come out. Also hoping to dodge the digital spending from their spouse.

There is a disconnect between what people think they're buying and why CIG thinks people are buying. CIG thinks people are still pledging towards their game. Users are buying so they can get an advantage in the game.

Case in point. I've seen people moan when the specs of their purchase changes. "Wah! You nerfed my ship! I want a refund!"

Sweet

Really you can't make it up. It's like they are mocking backers, but then again I don't nothing of this, other than this time I read the article linked, I see joke items you can vote on for a million. It's like they are laughing at backers with what they list for another million. In my world it is red flag worthy, sorry.

Some of the backers are worth mocking. Some of them are spending thousands collecting every ship as if they're playing Pokemon. Put your wallet away, fools. Leave something to work towards in the game.

What they should do now is stop with the feature creep and start developing the main game.
What makes me concerned is that Chris is so much more into making an MMO out of this game as opposed to a great single player game.
Sure MP is fun but I thought this game was going to be an amazing SP experience with MP, but it doesn't look like this is what they have in mind.

I'm in complete agreement. MP open world games tend to be terrible. You might talk about having Organizations dueling for territory to protect lucrative trade routes. Sounds great and exciting in principle. In reality, people have to work or go to school, so things only happen during prime time. Anything an Org works towards can be easily lost when the Euros log in and no one is around to do anything about it.

An you will get that later early next year (Its always been that way in some form or another in the context of things). So for a person that has backed the game. You seem not to know what is going on. They never said that SQ42 would be available right now and they are not and where never going to let you play it before it was finished let alone do "Alpha and beta" test for it. They have ALWAYS said that we would be getting the Hangar, and then the Dog fighting modular RIGHT after the Kickstarter phase ended and the game expanded with Crowd funding.

So everything might seem like a DISTRACTION to you, given all you want to play is the single player aspect. Which is fine and you will get that much sooner then anyone else. But those "Distractions" -in which they are not- is all in an effort to make and flesh out Star Citizen the PU/MMO component of the game that was unlocked doing the crowd funding phase and its to flesh out mechanics and features so you have a game to play. When SQ42 comes around.

This is modular development get with the program.

Food for thought.
Did you forget the release estimated sheducule for the game? and then
they hashed out a new one more recently.

http://starcitizen.wikia.com/wiki/Anticipated_Release_Schedule

Thanks for the lengthy explanation. I do understand that this is the direction they are taking. I just don't agree with it. I'm not interested in a multiplayer 'MMO' game. They look good on paper, but usually suck in implementation. The problem is always people. People suck. Every online game I've played has griefers and hackers run amok. No thank you.

Give me a good single player experience ala Skyrim. Forget the other garbage.

Also, I have trouble finding the game in an 'open-world' space game. They say, 'Explore, trade, be a pirate!'. I say that shit is all boring and feels too much like work.

Combat isn't competitive since fights are only determined by who brings the biggest numbers. I want healthy competition, not gankfests. But without a system to control that, people will take the path of least resistance.

I'm backing this project, but I'm getting increasingly underwhelmed by every reveal. I don't want a Hangar Module, Dog Fighting Module, or a persistent online universe. I want the single player squadron 42 campaign that was teased as part of the Kickstarter. Everything else is just a distraction.

Make sure to include a well written story and try to innovate on space flight mechanics. I've played Wing Commander and X-Wing/Tie Fighter. Those are the games that come to mind when discussing great space sims. Not Jumpgate. Just do something about the space jousting combat. I'm really tired of that. Add complexity instead of 'who turns fastest'.

You must be joking with that comment right? Inept? Get a life dude; this is a pre alpha, this stuff happen a lot. Yea, he wasn’t able to put up a proper demo, but this in no way makes him look inept. It mealy a setback is all.

When this game is done, it will be a pretty incredible game. But No one should be making a judgment call on a demo that is in very early development.

I didn't watch the whole stream, so I didn't see the crashes. But, isn't the DFM supposed to be released soon? Wasn't it supposed to be released back in December? If so, why is it not in a better state?

Not trying to nitpick, but I'm getting the perception that this project is behind schedule.
