I watched most of the first episode of Schitt's Creek, but we couldn't even finish. When did it get good (and how)?

Bought on launch, played it some, and then went back to Sins of a Solar Empire. Still play that now with friends.

Not sure why it didn't stick, but I didn't like it enough to persuade my friends to get it.

I can't stand the controls before Black Flag. I've played or tried to play most of them.

BF is best overall, IMO, then Origins, Odyssey. Syndicate was fine, and Unity was ok.

Thirded - though I thought the MM story was super trite/predictable I really loved the driving (after some car upgrades)

what I really, really want, is story of Interstate 76, with a bit of open world sauce, with the driving of Mad Max.

After reading this, I think he suffers from too much humility and introspection. He should really talk himself up just a bit more. Then he'd be successful.

After finishing Div2, I think it needs more items from some other Ubi games, namely Splinter Cell and some GR:W. I think sneaking around and having effectively silenced weapons, and maybe some climbing of buildings would be pretty good.

By doing what they're doing. The exclusives. The free games are, among other things, to build up people's libraries so there's less disparity between a given customer's Epic volume of games in their personal library vs Steam (or anyone elses). That makes people associate gaming more so with their store over time. By enticing developers with their ultra-low store cut. Etc..

I'm not even bashing Epic here, but who else is willing to go this far to compete? They're on the path to being a major player -eventually- which is the only way to get there (one day at a time).

This is what I call aggressive. Passive would be focusing on their store's features, playing fairly in the marketplace (aka: no paid for exclusives) etc.

Drayth wins this thread and all analysis of EGS business.

I agree with the backlog competition comment; to have a great time with great value requires just a little patience. I waited a year and got Div2 for $5. Would I ever pay 60, or even 30? Nope, but my friends and I will have some fun for cheap on a mostly patched up game.

This time next year, Borderlands 3 for 5$. Proper value with proper patching, and if a game is a complete failure or has terrible support (Anthem, RUNE 2, etc.), you just don't feel bad skipping it.

I bought and played XIII, but didn't get very far. I think I ragequit after I couldn't climb a cliff or something. Maybe it was savepoints or the like. Was it really that good?

I think there are many public critics of games that don't "check the boxes" for the trend du jour, and far fewer thoughtful critics that judge how those are executed. Since most games (like most pop culture) are superficial, they just want to try to avoid pain rather than make a thoughtful statement and then end up going through contortions like the Far Cry 5 team.

The game should if not show then at least mention the horrors of 1800-1900 colonialism and not just sugar coat it with all happy pink unicorns and Mexicans that JUST SO HAPPEN to work on your plantations (And yes, there are plantations). Because that is the opposite of what the setting and the historic victims of this deserve.

So what do they deserve? Force the player to watch a history video that delves deeply into the nuances of various victims? All Civ-like games would then be endlessly tedious to develop/play. Can you imagine watching long lecturing videos every time a new civilization is discovered?
Fiction is fiction - if we're going to have that standard, then all novels are out (unless they have long balancing/edifying afterwords). Or is it all just fine if instead of calling them Mexicans (as in your example) they are just called Xicans or some other made up name?

High speed rail. Interesting statistic. All the high-speed rail in Spain put together is less than what it would take to have a high-speed run just between LA and Chicago. In the north east, and maybe places like Dallas-Houston-San Antonio might be able to break even, but otherwise it's just WAY to expensive (and travel time too long) for it to succeed in the USA on any scale.

I thought Avatar was a thoroughly mediocre movie with fine special effects. I have no excitement about the sequels, but I will eventually see them, I expect. Who knows, maybe one of them can surprise me like Kingsman did.

LOL at the comment that this is a gaming site, and people don't blatantly crack on politicians they hate at every opportunity. What comments section have you been reading lately?

Back to the main topic:

Assuming the layoffs are related to the asset freeze, should everyone be cheering Trump because he's finally cracking down on the Russians?

Boo Russians!
Yay Trump?
Yay layoffs?

Or is this all now Trump's fault, because he colluded with the Russians, and the "good guys" are so on to him, that he's throwing his chums under the bus to try to escape, leading to the freeze, and thus the layoffs?

Which is it? C'mon, someone has to have a better conspiracy theory than this!

Yes, just create more story missions, and port over the GR: Wildlands mechanics, and it would be a winner. The DZ was somewhat improved last time I played 2 or so patches ago.
