You can say that this isn't Trump's choice, but every single person he's marked for a position has been completely inadequate for the position, and is only getting it because they're loyal to him and do exactly what he says. So this is, in every way, Trump's decision.

In a nihilistically bemused way, I am looking forward to seeing just how fucked up everything becomes under Trump. One, because the people who said "The leopard would never eat my face" are going to find out that the leopard has no fucks to give about whose face it is chewing on. Two, because you can't change something unless you break something. If things become broken enough, people are going to push for protective changes in the future. Sometimes something so terrible has to happen that a sizeable part of the population has to rise up, say "Never again", and enforce that thing never having the opportunity to happen again.

There is a whole lot of pain and misery forthcoming on multiple fronts. That's a given. But maybe that's what we here in the US need to pull our heads out of our asses and stop being a nation of largely stupid, lazy, and ignorant jackasses who blindly follow a convicted rapist felon grifter.
I hate to agree with you but I do. However I don't think it will be uncomfortable enough for most Americans to effect a big change. I think Trump knows this and is great at manipulating the masses to keep a perception of balance. He'll make it seem comfortable enough all while he gives us, "the business". Now if he had 8 continuous years in office then I think things would be different.

But guys, there will be so much ..... winning. I think that's what everyone is going to be tired of. right? All the winning?

I thought about this also. Build once, with all the faffing all done, and make that the package.

Would you argue for the unilateral dissolving of the sovereign tribes?

I don't see any logical connection between what I wrote and your question. The Native American tribes that I am familiar with could easily be defined as a freely associating group of people with certain property rights (since AFAIK, most don't require a genetic component or a fixed, documented family tree to be accepted into the tribe).

I do not support forced dissolution of freely associating groups, and the Constitution explicitly bars that anyway.

All tribe membership does is provide a certain political status within legal frameworks; it does not make someone morally superior to anyone else. If you want to argue that the US Govt should live up to specific treaties they signed, that's a legal argument. You seem to be mixing in a moral argument with a legal one, and don't seem to be able to separate them.

This is exactly what should happen. You cannot "fix" history by trying to balance some mythological scales. Everyone alive is descended from some rapist/murderer/royalty/etc that was treated unfairly or treated someone else unfairly.

Every group got screwed over at some point by someone else's migration/invasion - BoP's point (that I took) was if you start drawing lines, where could you logically stop?

I'll just chime in here to say that having owned (very) modern cards from both AMD and Nvidia, I can't tell a difference in driver quality. Some features (RTX, etc.) yes, but I did not have a particular problem with any game crashing, or system hangs/conflicts, etc. The driver quality argument is over, IME.

As Prez said, "to thine own self be true" more or less. I need more info before making a political decision about it.

RougeSix is correct, IMO (based on ISW and many other sources) that a significant part of Russia, and probably a significant majority supports the war. Perhaps they've been misled, perhaps some are bullied, but it's true as far as we can tell. LIke many countries/peoples before, beating up some "others" feels great, especially if it doesn't really personally cost you anything. This certainly seems to be portrayed as a war against the "trans" agenda and many other Western decadences - any surprise an ignorant/poorly educated population believes something that makes it feel good, when few in Moscow/St. Petersburg feel any direct pain?

"Fargin IceHouse" is still available or "Suminumbatches", if you prefer.

I had time to review games and demos under 144 Hz. The only way I can describe it is like when we first saw The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey in 48 FPS in theaters (the first major film to shoot at that framerate)—everything looks so lifelike in its motion, with zero "gaps."

Welcome to the party, pal. I had 144 @ 1440 several years ago, and then waited till the 4k version was reasonable before moving up. I think it's a really great upgrade, but easy to get used to, so you take it for granted pretty quick.

It's why I got so annoyed way back when everyone was falling over themselves praising the first Avatar as a great movie. It was unequivocally not a great movie. It wasn't even a good movie; it was pretty bad. It was a stunning technical cinematic achievement at the time but as a movie it was awful. And people got distracted by that so much that I kept getting told what a great movie it was.

This was my take completely. SFX demo, utter trash as a movie.

For those unaware, it was revealed that last year Remington signed a product placement deal "as part of a marketing plan to reach young customers" in Modern Warfare 2:
https://www.wsj.com/business/media/remington-gun-call-of-duty-video-game-93059a66

This new lawsuit seems to be building upon that story from last year.

Glad you brought in this detail, though I don't see how a specific brand on a video game rifle makes it more likely to cause a mass murder.

2 other points:
1) According to FBI statistics, about 400 people/year in the US are killed with long rifles. Not "AR-style", but all of them. This is far less than knives, and about the same as baseball bats.
2) 100 years ago was the most deadly school massacre in US history (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bath_School_disaster). Should they have sued the dynamite manufacturers? Perhaps the alarm clock manufacturers?

The perps are some combination of evil and crazy. It is extremely difficult to lock up the mentally ill - as a society, we've decided that's the right thing. We thus live with the consequences. Can we have more laws/better enforcement to minimize this? Sure. Should we remove all things that crazy/evil people might misuse? No.

Poor donkeys. Slavery has always perplexed me. Generally there are way more slaves than masters in any given scenario. Why there weren't uprisings or murders of owners at every turn boggles my mind. Maybe there was and it was just never recorded so future slaves didn't get any ideas.

The Romans were absolutely brutal to slaves that revolted. Just read about the Spartacus revolt and aftermath.

How do we stop the next round of games industry mass layoffs

Such a painfully naive question. Although to be fair the author was slightly more realistic in the tone of the article. Slightly.

Without reading the article:
1) don't have "free money" so people aren't funding any random crap to try to make ROI
2) don't let leadership approve games that won't sell well
3) don't let leadership hire to support #2
4) have a crystal ball that allows for perfect knowledge for #2

There are so many different reasons that there are boom/bust cycles in any industry, but largely attributable to greed/ego - or, in other words - humanity. Perhaps AI will save us.

BoP - I appreciate your POV and expertise on these threads; I've certainly learned things - I do think there's a reasonable hope that we can pull out of it - we've done something like it before. Age of Acrimony is a decent read. Reconstruction was really tough and bitter, and we'd just finished killing 750k Americans.
