This guy on Reddit said it right:
Being an RPG doesn't have anything to do with how long it takes to kill, the weapon/damage balance does. The Witcher is an RPG, and you can one-hit-behead enemies. Destiny is an RPG and you can one-hit explode the head of enemies. Mass Effect is an RPG and you can one-hit kill enemies in a variety of ways. Being an RPG does not excuse making enemies able to take 40 shots from an SMG before dying because the only difference between an RPG and a classic shooter is that the damage from the gun, instead of being fixed, depends on the weapon, character, and enemy levels. That's what "balancing" means: adjusting the values on enemy health, base weapon damage, base player damage bonus, etc so that the average time to kill is reasonable. Right now it doesn't feel reasonable to many here, which is why we are having this conversation. Having enemies that take 10 seconds of continuous direct fire to die is not a feature of RPGs, is a choice made by the developers. I understand that it's a choice made probably to avoid needing very large numbers of enemies to keep combat challenging, but they are compromising realism a little with this choice, which has always been a hallmark of the Tom Clancy brand. |

I'm also 80% certain Ubi won't deliver, and we'll look back at the footage they released thinking "What. The. Fuck? Did their computers + backup burn down so they had to restart from scratch a half year ago?". They already cut up the map so the can sell the pieces as DLC: the-divsion-2013-multiple-dark-zones-brooklyn-not-in-game.jpg
I als got a beta key from the Humble Bundle, so I'll see how much Ubishit fucked it up. |

I suspect everyone else is gonna phone it in. They had a 66 day mocap shoot, and if you watch the video pretty much all the A-listers were there getting mocapped. https://youtu.be/_5sRUYwgWGI?t=1h31m15s |

When you logout, you’ll be an NPC, but they’re going to see if that works. There is a lot of balance involved in making sure you can’t just logoff and making sure that long voyages, you can logoff and your character maintain their role. It’s something they’re still working on. Uhm. That's going to suck balls or am I missing something? |

What's all the fuss about? I understand that offline would have been nice for people with really bad connects, modding and when the servers go down in a couple of years(then they'll probably release the server code).
People who really can't play the game because of their connection(or lack off) will get a refund and will have to get over the fact that they can't play the game.
But everybody else especially those who have been playing the alpha and beta for months now, shouldn't be complaining.
I don't think this was a ploy to get more people to sign up for the Kickstarter, but to make as many people happy as possible. |
