yeah, glad that they just lost time of their life instead of something real. something real like your life, your home or your family, when you are an alcohol abuser or some other vile form of addict.

i'd rather look upon my years of WoW i had as the opportunity i used to befriend many people all over my country and finding the one woman in my life. with which i have a house and soon a family. that is a bit more optimistic than your outlook. i hope you reserve some of your views for the drug addicts near trainstations or gamblers which get tossed on the street.

So much for the credibility of a Mr. Roberts and a quick...

Reality check: They still have no instancing system/MMO basic mechanics. They still have no travel mechanics where you can travel with a ship and/or character from system to system. They have nothing at all in that regard. They also have zero gameplay systems finalized and/or working within a true MMO context.

All of this in spite of the fact that Tony Zurovec (Director of the Persistent Universe) promised us a "whole slew of other systems soon" in December 2015 or said that they would "by spring/summer [2016] just keep iteratively increasing, increasing, increasing that number of players and NPCs that you are going to put into a single instance".

Reality check: We're stuck with a single star system and a single instance with a 24 player max limit since early 2016. There has been absolutely no increase (and especially no "increasing, increasing, increasing" as per TonyZ's words) to anything in spring or summer whatsoever. No additional players/systems... nothing. at. all.

Feel free to keep cheering about the pretty graffix and the pretty ship JPEGs though. That's gonna be helping a lot. And please make sure to drop another grand on this game. I mean how can anyone not see how this is heading into the totoally right direction and making exactly the progress they have promised since launch or in the last 12 months?

as much could have been said when blizzard had been under the scrutiny of backers and had to constantly showcase the progress of world of warcraft.

these are different times now. a few years back you could make a game for years without ever showing anything and begin to tease it two years before the release and nobody would cry about this and that.

today a game like star citizen is crowdfunded and you just need to do all that showcasing of noteworthy accomplishments. that invokes the ire of naysayers or people who just want another direction. paired with the internet and the ability to loudly express your feelings: the hate on a game like SC.

from a company PoV: why would i want to have a big industry name like World of Warcraft and then try to establish World of Warcraft: When Nostalgia Struck?

if i don't feature the vanilla brand enough and put a lot of money and manpower behind it, i only devalue my main brand.

and blizzard will never fork that kind of money into a fan project without making absolutely sure, that it has atleast the quality of the main game. and vanilla with polish wouldn't be vanilla.

but since somebody already posted, gaming isn't accepted as the same art (since you are able to control your actions and somehow sympathize with the nazis) and gets banned or altered. where altering is the worst. RtCW got completely botched, you fight against the "Wolfsclan" and "Heinrich Höller" instead of Himmler. it is soldier of fortunes alternate reality story all over again.

what does it mean?

the old bunch who knew each other well is being shrinked to allow for more fresh blood to (not) bond with the old bunch and therefore create a risk? you cut the old staff to let it grow back like grass or hair? you don't like the old noses and want new ones because the old ones aren't able to grasp the concept of future growth?

or is it marketing mumbo jumbo for "have to get rid of 'em one at a time so we can finally close it?"? jeez, i feel bad for them in any case.

phew. i cannot say i am that much involved in the social aspect of gaming / developing, but i touched that gamergate affaire a bit with some post with a timeline.

but why the heck is it that important anyway? don't trust magazines, don't trust journalists, don't trust men, don't trust women. trust in yourself and everything should be okay. fanatics are the worst everywhere and if you look to those who feel that their gender isn't properly displayed.. they are even worse (men AND women).

disliking a company because they somehow participated with a notion in something like that? i don't know..

never played anything of arkham, briefly played AC1 (about 75% of it, was just too repetitive), 2% AC2, skipped AC3, 25% AC4.

i fired SoM up and there was a quite interesting family scene and a short tutorial. so far, so good. where other games leave objectives, goals or exploration POIs to your imagination, SoM seems to act like just cause 2 or assassin's creed and marks everything on your map. in terms of immersiveness, I don't feel like I'm stalking the dread wastes of mordor protecting the free people of middle-earth but rather completing a shopping or to-do list.

there is a neat screen for sauron's army, another one for runes and their chances in percent, an extensive map with a lot of icons and guidelines, etc.
while I am my own master in killing off immersiveness inch by inch in WoW or skyrim by installing addons for a better efficiency or less fantasy "clutter", I can't do so here. the game practically whips the nemesis system in my face not as a byproduct of great design or an underlying layer of awesomeness but as the main goal of playing it. to me, this game shatters the fourth wall in every waking second and that doesn't really appeal to me.

that being said, I am only in the first map (tiny!) and did one story mission (promoting ratbag by doing what I did many hours before while "exploring") and I come back for the rather personal enemies. while I like the system, I don't know why it has to have the LotR universe as a vehicle.

a few other points which bug me:

- I get swarmed by captains - a lot. it's not that difficult, but it really drags on and on and on.
- I run towards someone, enter stealth, his alertness goes up, I vanish into a bush, he completely lets it go.
- as far as I can see, there are no real weapon upgrades in the form of new / other weapons. this dampens the sense of progress a bit.
- mordor seems a bit too friendly and bright. last I've seen it, frodo and sam nearly starved to death and got pretty disoriented / demoralized just being there.
- no falling damage, near godlike powers, possessed by a wraith, no "death".. just so you can be a badass ranger. even the uruks call "hey, ranger!" as if they want to spar a bit instead of crying utter desbelief for seeing you walk under the living again.
- strange stealth system. zip around a corner, run (or jump 12 meters) onto a tower or roof and stealthkill again.
- and really, why are there obstacles? talion can just jump up half a tower. I don't like that very much, almost makes archers a non-issue.

I, too, don't get the majority of people saying that this is a GOTY. if this game didn't have a nemesis system, it would be destroyed by critics.

world of warcraft was in development for 4-5 years. it inarguably changed the acceptance of (mmo)(rpg)s and the way they would be played.

star citizen was officially funded nearly two years from now. all the time during production, blizzard didn't let people partake in the design and/or testing process, let alone speak directly to the masses or taking suggestions. or releasing early clients for that matter.

more than a decade ago games would just pop up and be there. today we witness the whole process of building those games, and we act nervous when the just backed project isn't available in the promised timeframe. so far i think that we should lower our expectations, as we didn't even knew about a game being made a few years ago. and we should let go of the constant checking if the game is in one's individual state and bash devs and fans alike when they find it isn't.

slow down, life is to be savoured!

well, since publishers began to interfere with game design, deadlines and trying to eat the largest piece of the cake.

you can see a good game in the first glimpses and previews and watch in horror as the publisher demands cuts here and there and wants as much accessibility as possible while still hyping a new and innovative game. and the games have to be sureshots.

i would like to judge a game on its own merits. but you have to turn to indie devs than to the big players if you want quality and more distance to the bean counters.

heh, imagine a black metal band signing on to virgin. that'd be rich.

i always buy the addons (as CE) for wow, sc 2 and diablo 3. it's a nobrainer for me, because i always sink more than enough time in those games to justify the money spent. and i even use the character transfer services from time to time to consolidate my most ancient toons on one realm, to build my legacy!

that being said, those are worthwhile investments because wow will be around for another decade. but if i bought a DLC for madden this year, what about next year / madden? those DLC were good for six to nine months and then what? new game, new DLC, start all over again? how can the DLC content for thew new madden justify the money spent for merely one year, if everything is outdated with the next iteration?

investing upon my wow account over nine years is something i can do because it lasts. it builds something bigger than my normal game purchases are. but buying those things, knowing that they release wow 2 next year? never.

i received black flag with my geforce last year and the naval combat was just great. farming dem collectibles on the other hand.. i hate myself for being a completionist but i also hate blips on my minimap.

as for AC:U, yeah i don't know. it is the same in look and feel, i recognize the sounds of the interface or some ambient sounds, i see the same mechanics and a few new features. the graphics are okay, but HD french is still french. i don't think that this game improves on the others in the series in terms of unlocking all those towers and everything.

This. It's exactly the point I wanted to make. They can call these "new missions" but you end up with the same simplistic gameplay mode all the time.

I enjoyed playing the game allot but in retrospect it was kinda bad. The only thing really awesome about it are the online invasions.

exactly what I thought. (Q) just solves everything. and this is what those intrusion puzzles in watch_dogs look like. only more complicated. and from 1991.
