There's been a lot of talk lately about Steam switching to an open model. Sure your game won't be promoted anywhere and will be near impossible to find but it will be published on steam simply by you clicking publish. I guess its similar to the youtube model. They will of course be forced to remove games for DMCA violations and as you mention porn. That could be an issue.

Sorta true. You must pay ~$84,000 a year for a computer professional in order for them to be except from overtime. You can not make them except and pay them whatever you want.

The critical flaw with streaming is that there's lag. It makes inputs less responsive and means that you're too late to react to what's really happening in the game. Any game that requires actual player skill would suffer significantly. Also, to Stream really high quality graphics with no compression artifacts, you'd need an internet connection that I'm not sure exists or is affordable to us mortals.

And GRID is their game to show off this? That seems like an incredibly arrogant move. Driving games by definition are the most lag sensitive games possible. A few milliseconds of difference between you winning and running into a wall.

A never ending treadmill, where people play the game to pay to play the game! What could possibly go wrong?

EVE Online works on this principal. The currency in the game is monthly play credits. That said, I agree it silly. But it seems to work in that game. I can imagine it would work in others.

Really? And people shunning contact with law enforcement is abnormal is it?

The article really lacked detail, I wish there was more info about what happened. So the police wrote up a SAR report based upon their being suspicion about this guy. Then ........ , then the guy sues the police for writing him into a SAR report. Are they trying to argue that the very act of the police officer recording his observations are illegal?

Pretty cool the way they're including content from modders (I'm assuming, hopefully, they're paid).

The two main mods they have incorporated were Spaceplanes and FinePrint. Both cases they brought in the modders as employees.

I do have issue with the headline though. "In surprise move, Squad and the European Space Agency (ESA) have banded together to provide a special treat for players". Squad tweeted ESA asking if they could use their logo, ESA tweeted back "Sure".

You... what?

Google or Youtube search "happy days Fonzi jumped the shark" and watch the video that comes up.

All will become clear.

I know what the term means. It's not clear to me if eraser does, at least I can't figure out how to fit it in the context.

It means to take a risk in the context By buying a game barely anyone played yet.

And I am enjoying it greatly. ^^

And here I thought it was because you said there was no way you were buying it due to its in-game credit card processing. Then buying it.

In this trial, XFINITY Internet Economy Plus customers can choose to enroll in the Flexible-Data Option to receive a $5.00 credit on their monthly bill and reduce their data usage plan from 300 GB to 5 GB. If customers choose this option and use more than 5 GB of data in any given month, they will not receive the $5.00 credit and will be charged an additional $1.00 for each gigabyte of data used over the 5 GB included in the Flexible-Data Option.

That sounds like Russian Roulette.

congratulations, you're blind

So go ahead, tell us what you thought you saw that resembled an MMO, and I'll tell you why you were wrong.

you've never seen an MMO with a medieval fantasy setting?

again, congratulations on your blindness
An MMO can be in any setting. Medieval fantasy is not in any way shape or form "MMO elements".

If that's what you're basing your argument on, you really need some help with logic.

Strike one. Try again.

A MMO needs many things, one of these being it has to be massive, which I do not see in this game. You only play with a few other players which immediately tells us that is most certainly is NOT massive in any sense of the word. Hence your understanding of what MMO means needs addressing!

Its not "Goat Simulator MMO", its Goat MMO Simulator. They are simulating an MMO. Its Goat Simulator with an MMO "setting", if it offers multiplayer at all I'd be surprised.

Anyone find the Eve Plex discounts funny. Its not like Eve players are known for their spreadsheets or anything. Sure sell the pack of 2 at the biggest discount and charge a few cents per plex more for the pack of 6 or 12. That will drive your customer base.

I'd like to know if they had to sign a non-compete clause and how long until it expires. Minecraft never hooked me, but they are very talented guys. With that amount of money there is no limit to what they can do next.

I doubt it, they were buying the IP, not the talent in this case.

"There’s no reason for the development, sales, and support of the PC/Mac......versions of Minecraft to stop"
What? There are MANY reasons to stop the development if Microsoft owns it. There's no way Microsoft would release a game for PS3-4... Explain this to me.

The "game" will never recoup the 2.5Billion spent, but IP likely will. Buying Minecraft is all about buying the IP and possibly the ecosystem. First comes the marketing, Minecraft Movie, Minecraft plushies, etc, etc all of which will make tons of money. Then comes the ecosystem, no more lauchers, it will be Microsoft's store that you buy or obtain skin packs, maps, mods, etc. They don't care if your running on Apple or PS4, its their game and Microsoft will make a cut from every skin pack bought. Most likely they will make a cut from all the Minecraft videos on youtube as well. The ecosystem is huge, they would be hurting themselves to limit it.

How can they say "Unlimited free to play" when the next sentence states "However, they will not have access to all the avatars, skins and the single player campaigns, Acts 2, 3, and 4, all of which is exclusive content for Titan Pass owners."

They are saying that Act 1 is "Unlimited free to play", the rest is a single $20. Its similar to the Demo model.

Some of them aren't terribly noteworthy (no acne, as an example); but some of the others are eye catching to me.

To quote someone else, when they release the toddlers and pools pack, will they call it "I'm a very bad person pack"?

When I was 10 I programmed a fairly large text adventure game ( I think it had about 40 "rooms"). I haven't programmed another game since.
