I couldn't bring myself to put $3 down for it. I don't need photorealistic graphics but I am so over the "retro" style, the blocky style, and whatever else. Indie is not an excuse to make things that look like shit.

Honestly, when your talking about a fully destructible/buildable world, blocky is about the only way to go. I couldn't imagine the system requirements if the graphics were high end.

Microsoft may be upgrading the specs of the Xbox One before its release

The major issue this generation was that Xbox 360 was still generally a windows machine thus making it much easier to program for, despite the PS3 having more powerful hardware.
XBox is PowerPC, Though its still leaps and bounds a simpler architecture than Cell.

Honestly, I agree with the "Why Not Both," idea. Why can't we have disc based games, AND be able to loan/trade out online purchased games. It really does add a value proposition to the current online purchased game model.

It wouldn't be horribly expensive for them to offer to replace all current WiiU's. Consumer keeps their tablet (which will stay the same specs) controllers, cords, etc. Nintendo offers free upgrades for all purchases via some recall system. Its certainly doable.

You cannot have game and marketing budgets this high while also having used and rental games existing. The numbers do NOT work people.

How does the movie industry do it then? If the numbers aren't working YOU are doing it wrong. And it doesn't cost me $60 to watch a movie or buy it on disc.

You can easily spend $40-$60 for an entire family to attend a movie together. You generally don't buy much more than 1 copy of a game per family.

So much love for Sony just because all they did is start charging for multiplayer?

Exactly
Is that even confirmed that you will need PSN+ for multiplayer?
Could it be that it is only for used games maybe?
For some reason I thought they said last night you will not need to pay subscription fee for MP games.

Current XBox 360 and PS3 games handle multiplayer by creating a P2P connection between all the players. You often generally play these games without an internet connection at all if you have multiple 360s or PS3s in the same LAN. So the network requirement for Sony or Microsoft is Low.

Theoretically some of the new PS4 games will use an actual server infrastructure, it may be that you will need to pay for these types of games as it cost Sony plenty of host servers for multiplayer. Who knows, I hope Sony says something officially about this soon.

--and i HATE HATE FUCKING HATE consoles.. but I plan on getting a Ps4.

I'm pretty sure they only allowed that on a few PS3 games, like Unreal Tournament 3 maybe?

I would say the answer to that question is no you won't.

The proper answer is "Yes, if the game supports it". Few games on the console support KB/Mouse though.

And guess what happens in 10 or 20 years when you decide to dust off your old XBox One and play your games, its now worthless. I can accept that SOME of my old PC games will be worthless, but not all of them, its a choice I make on an individual purchase level, but here ALL of your XBox One games will be worthless in 20 years or so when their servers are shut down.

Publishers quiet ahead of E3? Shocking. Come-on publishers aren't going to tell you what games they are releasing for XBox One because they are waiting for E3 for official announcement.

Congrats Microsoft, you just handed Sony the console market on a silver platter.

I don't know anymore, I have a gut feeling Sony is going to do a lot of similar things by the time the system comes out.

PlayStation 4 will not require an Internet connection in order to play games, Sony Worldwide Studios head honcho Shuhei Yoshida has confirmed.
gadgetshow.channel5.com
Speaking to Game Informer, Sony Worldwide Studios boss Shuhei Yoshida made it clear that the Sony PS4 would not require a broadband connection to play. “Did we consider it? No, we didn’t consider it,” he told the magazine, for the reason that “many countries don’t have robust internet connections.”

I think the "many countries don't have a robust internet connection" is the ultimate confirmation. Sony is concerned with the Asian, US and European markets, Microsoft has been more concerned about the US market only.

"Xbox One is designed so game publishers can enable you to give your disc-based games to your friends. There are no fees charged as part of these transfers. There are two requirements: you can only give them to people who have been on your friends list for at least 30 days and each game can only be given once."

So a used game bought from someone on eBay or a garage-sale is worthless.

"Any DRM on used games will be left up to the publisher in question, according to Yoshida."
If that is true it would be excellent. Allow publishers to choose to have complex DRM schemes, let the market decide.

I've been debating buying a 360 for a few months now to replace my almost dead original Wii (which is only used to stream Netflix/Amazon/Hulu). This news is exciting as the prices for 360 should start dropping again.

If you intend to stream netflix or hulu (don't remember if Amazon is streamable on the 360) be prepared to spend an extra 50 bucks a year.

Streaming services are only allowed for xbox live subscribers.

Which leads me to an interesting thought. How much of this mandatory new xbox stuff is going to require a 50 dollar a year subscription? I'm waiting for Microsoft to say "fuck it, Xbox Live subscriptions are mandatory now."

I'm unimpressed with the direction they're going with. 500 gigs isn't going to be enough for mandatory installations, if migrating xbox live IDs is anything like it is today the idea of playing at a friend's house is done (Let's face it- Rock Band sold an ungodly amount of systems)...

I might actually be leaning towards PS4 this generation if I go with a console.

Thanks I forgot about the subscription cost. Isn't the Live network significantly better than the PS3s network? If I'm looking for a media hub that also plays cheap used games (PS2 used games are starting to get harder to find) would I be better off with an Xbox360 of a PS3, I currently have a Wii and a PS2 (for playing cheap used games) that are both starting to die.

You do know that you can buy a $50 Blu-ray player that will stream Hulu/Netflix/Amazon/everything else, right? I mean, why spend the extra dough if you are not going to game on it?

My kids will though, and they can buy used games cheap. I have a PS2 that they can buy cheap games for now, but gamestop is going to stop selling PS2 games soon. So now that next gen is coming out, debating between an Xbox360 or a PS3 but I figure the XBox as its a better media hub (something I might use)

I have altered the deal. Pray I don't alter it further.

Realistically id has been making their money from licensing for a long long time, their self made games have always been subpar. Not licensing would have been suicide.
