They're offloading some pawn stuff to a second thread/core which is really neat. Not sure how impactful it will be (I think it's only the "drawing" processes for pawns/animals?) but hopefully they continue doing this for more systems as the game chugs in end game with big populations on the single thread. (Rocketman mod is a MUST for end game performance)

Will have to wait for mods to update... I think our collection list is around 270 lol. But very much looking forward to this!

Aside from the crazy performance issues surrounding the Cims/models the game is pretty great. I think there's a few issues coming up like customer demand and high density vs low density demand that needs to be ironed out (or as players we need to understand it better, maybe). But overall the simulation is great and things will just get better as mods become available, assuming the Cim models get fixed or replaced.

@Quboid, does your NDA stop from hinting at when the Paradox Mods thing will be open to everyone?

Also I would totally take a "mute chipper" mod vs outright disabling the popups

This is actually a fun little game, and 50% ($7.49 in the USA) is a steal, in my opinion.

Also triggers some nostalgia for me for those old school tank games... Bombardment? Artillery? Something like that, where you basically have physics puzzles like this with some ballistics shots to make vs enemy vehicles/buildings, on a 2D side view map.

Ha, "Scorched Earth" is the one I remember!

They really need to emphasize full multi-core support and what it means for traffic, AI cims etc. Hopefully their follow-up trailers will have more details on this and other features. Really want to see what mod features from CS1 got baked in and then what the modding community will be able to do with new mod tools etc. Overall am hyped but want the details!

Really glad to see mod support coming. JA2 had a big overhaul mod that was great for what it was, but JA2 was a bitch to mod. Would be great if the community can more easily add and fix things if the devs come up short.

Can't wait for this, if only for proper multithreading. Curious how many of the amazing/necessary mods will be baked into it as well.

That will be interesting to see. I'm a mod developer (Move It, Network Anarchy, Picker, and others) so I'm keeping a close eye on this. I'm under NDA so I can't say much, but I can say that I hope to continue modding for CS2 so if possible, these mods' features will be in CS2 in some form.

Oh nice, thanks for your work on those mods, they are definitely some of the must-haves! I'll take it as a really good sign that you're under NDA and likely giving solid feedback. With all the Unity vs Unreal Engine talk I'd be curious if modders like yourself who make such game-changing mods prefer one engine over the other for CS2. I hope the game is very mod-friendly either way just in case it falls short on base features, but also hoping not to have 600+ mods and assets again lol. Cheers,

Been playtesting this for quite a while in lieu of Battlefield, usually every other Saturday morning (930 EST to 330 EST "usually") they do a major free test. Destruction, vehicles, area VOIP (friendly and enemy) it's been a lot of fun. Definitely worth checking out if you can make one of the free playtest sessions.

Skylines is an amazing game... but desperately needs a modern update for multi-threading and being more mod-friendly. I haven't bought a DLC for this game in years and won't get any of these either. Curious if each one of these will break the mods every time too. The wait for CS2 continues!

No surprise here, don't fuck this one up, like you guys fucked up WH40K Dawn of War 3, Relic.

100%

Glad they've done the community testing sessions, cautiously optimistic this will release in a good state.

Really looking forward to seeing the feedback at launch (no preoder). They're bringing back things like true front and rear tank armor/weakness, including side hits. Sorely missing from COH2. Updated engine for better multi-threading will hopefully bring some even more enhanced destruction and cover opportunities. May or may not check out this campaign demo, but will be looking forward to seeing what's what in November.

It's pre-alpha, what do you expect... I also played the pre-alpha test a few months ago and enjoyed it despite the bugs and lots of placeholders. It's a really good thing they are letting us testing it and give feed back while they still have tons of time to work on it and polish. Unlike most alphas and betas these days which are just glorified demos 1-2 months before full release. My friends and I will be taking this for a spin and giving our feedback, we really enjoyed the previous games and happy to see things like proper side and rear armour hits return (COH2 only has a half baked 50/50 front/rear hit system for vehicles, COH1 has proper hit boxes all around the vehicles for weak points and disables).

Just having the admin control through Portal being able to kick hackers is a huge improvement/step back in the right direction. Hopefully their anti-cheat actually exists this time, but if not just find some good community run Portal servers with active admins and favourite them like back in the BF4 days. Great way to develop some strong squads and rivalries too >:D

Looking forward to giving the beta a go next week. Especially to test my rig and see how it plays even if it is beta code.

Wow ok. I mean this kind of covers pretty much everything.... server admin stuff, people who want to yolo solo vs ai only or customize coop vs ai. Extra maps. And they can keep adding to it with more past and future content.. SSD space might actually be the only problem with this lol O_o

Can't wait for the open beta to test it out and see how my rig handles it at various settings.

I don't recall BF1 or 5 having many crashes or major bugs at launch. Hopefully they nail it with 2042 considering the hype and player load it looks like they're going to see (working servers, end of round server reporting etc.. BF5 still has issues with that now "no end of game report" bug).

I stopped watching when the pilot ejected from his F-35 so he could shoot a hand-held missile at the Su-57. I get it that's its a game, that it's set in the close future, and that the trailer has probably very little to do with the actual gameplay, but this trailer is so ridiculously over the top that it was painful to watch. What little interest I had in this game (and I actually did have a little interest) has now waned almost completely

That happened in game for the first time back in BF3 and the move is a called a RendeZook. Here's the original: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FOaGhE_sejI and it's been duplicated many times since (well the actual original happened in 1942, but this clip is much more famous).

Sorry that you're so salty over this, but to veterans of the series it's awesome to see DICE paying homage to one of the top crazy "only in Battlefield" moments that a player pulled off in the middle of gameplay.

Awesome stuff, I'm stoked!

Right now I only have 2 issues:

1: Specialists. 10 at launch, so far we know of 4 (which are named after the typical Battlefield classes):
- Recon (Drone gadget + local motion sensor passive perk). He is Casper from South Africa
- Assault (Grapple gadget + Nimble perk). He is Webster from Canada
- Engineer (Turret gadget + turret buff perk). He is Boris from Russia
- Support (Health dart gun gadget + defibs for insta revive @ full hp). She is Maria from Germany

I really don't like this because I HAVE to be Casper to get that specific "Recon Specialist" gadget/perk combo. Likewise for medic, I HAVE to play as Maria if I want the HP Darts + Defibs. 64 players on a team, we're going to have 20 Maria's running around PER TEAM O_o (just want to say, I have zero problem with women on the battlefield, especially one set in 2042).

A big concern here is also that customization (helmets, etc) will be tied to specialist type.

Why in the sweet hell can't I just pick for myself? I just want a generic solder I can customize - I want to be Canadian (cool if they let us rep that on Dog Tags like BF4), I want to pick any Specialist class, and then I'll do up my clothing/armor and weapons.

Issue #2 is I'm just hoping and praying for good netcode with 128 players on higher tickrate servers

Also reallyyy hoping for community servers with full admin control at launch... anyway still really pumped and can't wait for more info & gameplay!
