I've mostly avoided this because of the new drm. Actually never played any game using this drm, too afraid to let that crap on my hard drive.

Can't remember who atm, but someone in this forum said there really wasn't really a story anymore, in Dishonored 2. I don't want spoilers if possible but now I've been told in another forum there is a story and it's pretty good. So, story or no story, good or not so good?

Thanks

There is a story. It's just not a very good one.

Trials / Demos, whatever you want to call them, they sell games.

I'm pretty sure that almost every developer agrees that demos released near or before the game release are a terrible idea. People who like the game will already be buying it and people who are on the fence have a bigger chance of being satisfied with the demo or not liking it than generating a sale. It's better for devs to do a big sale later. Here they're making a demo a while after release. While it's not as bad as before release, I don't see how it could be a good idea. I doubt that any significant amount of people are going to pay full price for the game after all this time. A big sale would be better. I expect they're going to have a sale too, but then why waste resources on a demo? Maybe they think that their sale numbers are low because marketing failed and that if people play it they'll see it's good. I don't think so. Maybe they're hoping for this to generate buzz on Youtube and Twitch? The demo might be a good idea for that...

Horseshit. You think games like Doom would have got anywhere without the Shareware model? Plenty of games people are on the fence about and hold off buying day 1 could translate into instant sales if they could play a demo before release. I guarantee.

I mean, could you have picked a worse example? Doom was a revolutionary, mind-blowing game. What's the last one of those we had? GTA3? Nothing today would get that kind of boost.

Regardless, demos and shareware were easy back then. The way games were coded, it wasn't difficult to break a chunk off. Levels were very distinct and separate, and compiling a version with a limited selection was trivial. Pop it on two floppies and you're good.

Not today. Literally none of that is true today. Levels are rarely distinct entities, and we're leaning much more towards open world games. Assets can't be taken out readily, and tend to be used repeatedly and everywhere, so you're still talking a 5-50 GB download for a demo. And it requires enormous amounts of work to separate and make certain it works. And old games cared little about plot or pacing and just threw you right in, today's games don't do that.

Look at HL, which is another revolutionary game (to a much lesser extent, at least from a pop culture perspective) and how it handled demos. HL didn't have distinct levels. It cared about pacing, so you spent something like 40 minutes before you got a weapon, and even then it was a crowbar. It would be a terrible demo. Valve ultimately released a demo, but it was six months after the game came out, and it was new levels. I'd wager it did absolutely nothing for sales and was played almost exclusively by people who already had the game and wanted more.

It's changed even more today. Demos would most likely need to follow HL and be entirely new content. Even if not, they require a lot of work from your engineers (as opposed to game devs.) A studio has a choice of delaying the game (and burning far more budget) while they work on a demo, or putting the demo out after the release. But, after the release, the game has either succeeded, in which case it's far better to put all that effort into DLC, or it's failed, in which case write the development off as a sunk cost and move on to your next project.

Which would you prefer? Games that take an additional 8 months to be released because you want a demo? Or studios that focus on demos after release and are always closer to collapse because demos almost definitely bring in less revenue than either DLC or starting a new project.

Oh you utter fool. You obviously havent played Dishonored 2 have you? It literally has distinct individual levels that can easily be broken off into chunks. Be gone.

Another black on white hate crime. Where are all the BLM and liberals now? Oh right, it's only a crime if it's a black man who's the victim.

This is stupid even by your standards. BLM is obviously irrelevant here, and what liberals are saying this isn't a crime?

Far be it for me to defend Cutter, but it's clear you did not google the twitter BS that was going on after the crime, defending the rapists was the mildest form of criminal idiocy visible there. A mob of black teens formed in front of victims house shouting obscenities and mocking her and her family and this continued in school and for many days after. Police and school did nothing about that.

Has nothing directly to do with BLM or politics, sure. But it is still a sign that something is going VERY wrong in Detroit.

Detroit? Its happening the world over, man. Its in fashion to hate on whitey no matter where you are.

That actually does look pretty good. I'm not a fan of top-down views though. Wish it was a traditional 3rd person view. Or even a zoomed out, God of War-style view. Oh well.

All set to rake in a possible $30 dollars, but the dvd settlement ain't available in Texas.

Lets not forget the disproportionate crack cocaine penalties.
While a person found with five grams of crack cocaine faced a five-year mandatory minimum prison sentence, a person holding powder cocaine could receive the same sentence only if he or she held five hundred grams. Similarly, those carrying ten grams of crack cocaine faced a ten-year mandatory sentence, while possession of one thousand grams of powder cocaine was required for the same sentence to be imposed.

Eh, Obama let all of those people out - hope someone keeps track, they have already found that a lot of them lied about their "story" as well as the O admin lied about what each of them had done. A lot of them had previous weapons charges and were running drugs with guns. Federal law states drugs+guns during an arrest is 20 years.....
So President Obama let all of "those people" out. Go ahead, say it. You meant African Americans. Notice the word American. Hard to believe huh. I bet you don't know what country imprisons more of its populace than any other, give up, it's America.
President Obama did not even make a drop in the bucket, but your obvious racism won't allow you to see anything good that came from the last 8 years. Instead of getting your news from 8 people sitting around a table screaming at each other, try doing some basic research. so sad

The only racist here is you. If you cant see that, then you're a complete lost cause.

Its always been yuppie dell.

i guess you werent alive in the 80s or 90s

they were never particularly "awesome" but Jobs definitely made them unique to a certain degree, mostly through his neurotic psychosis

Oh I was alive then, and outside of rare education institutions you were hard pressed to find an Apple anything. Everything was IBM PCs. Apples gained a cult following among "creative" types and from there the iPod and hipsters made them go more mainstream. But they've always sucked to anyone who knows half a damn about computers.

In my dreams, they use this engine and create a full-fledged single-player only game (maybe co-op). One that's a lot more fleshed out. I've been treating the game as single-player already, but the "campaign" isn't really long enough.

Totally! I've been doing the same but it really does need a proper SP campaign. I thought the new Ghost Recon would be using this engine, but apparently its not - which is a shame, because the Snowdrop engine is beautiful.

Have you seen the "gameplay" trailer?

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NOIzH6UcoW4

It looks like shit. They go all the way to another freaking GALAXY and you're still running into the same alien races from the first lot of games?

And why are they all against each other if they went there on the same ship?

I was hoping for all new races and stories, but this just looks like the same ol' shite from ME2 and 3.

I was also hoping for more of a return to the first game; with the emphasis on exploration, story, role playing, etc. and less on the constant gunplay and combat every 15 seconds. I mean, honestly, it's like "Michael Bay" came and took over on the sequels.
