then play it upsampled to 4K on a gaming PC attached to a HDTV via Dolphin emulator

Can confirm, best way. There is even an HD texture pack for it. :)

Even has replacement icon packs to match screen button prompts to your preferred flavor of controller (360, DS4, etc). God bless you modders. Salute

Due for a new CPU/Mobo in the next year, it's the first time in a very long time since I gave AMD serious consideration. Pending more benchmarks, of course.

Which is what you say when you don't have shit ready for launch day...

Now that isn't fair. We've got a very high profile game that we held back 2 years from our prematurely dead $300 console that you can instead buy a new $300 console to play it on identically. And depending on your personal preference we've got another high profile Switch exclusive either in Summer or Winter. That's, like, 2-3 games man. An embarrassment of riches.

P.S. Please don't buy Zelda on WiiU. We reallllly need people to buy the new system.

What? The Federal govt wants our state to do something we don't like? Fuck that, states rights man, you can't order us around! Big Fed Gov getting in the way of locals who know what the area needs better than any bureaucrat.

What, municipalities want to do something we don't like? Fuck that, municipalities don't have the right, we get to order you around! Big State Gov needs to get in the way of locals who don't know what the area needs like our bureaucrats do.

You'd think the era of advanced realtime communication would have worked against obvious bullshit like this, but it only seems to be getting worse.

You've completely disregarded the fact that Nintendo knew internally that they were developing the Switch. That completely changes the discussion.

I disregarded it because it's a dumb argument. They did not start development on a Switch game 5+ years in advance of the platform being released, and then backport it to the platform that was out at the time. It was demonstrated on WiiU a year before the Tegra hardware the Switch is based on was even released. Literally the Switch hardware did not exist to develop on. It is the exact same thing that happened to Twilight Princess, which you already admitted you were wrong about earlier. Literally identical.

And for the record noone is disregarding Zelda, that is a deflection. People are disregarding the backwards technical design and anemic software schedule of Switch.

The Nintendo Switch at its finest ladies and gents. I hope they kill off the 3DS because otherwise this thing is fucked.

One of the bigger positives coming from all of this is that they will be killing off the idea of separate console and portable lines and all dev teams will focus on the Switch platform. So no more cases of, for example, a Fire Emblem game being portable only. Apparently didn't help with 2017 but should be a boon going forward.

It's a first-party nintendo title, coming out for a new Nintendo console. It's not exactly a 3rd party developer trying to switch things up at the last minute (pun intended). It's reasonable to imagine that Nintendo was very well aware of their own console coming out, and the game was developed for it, and "ported" back to the Wii-U.

This isn't reasonable. The game was announced for WiiU 4 years ago. It's unlikely zero development was in place during this announcement so development started more than 4 years ago. It was shown live for the first time on WiiU 3 years ago. It was originally scheduled to be released for WiiU in 2015, and then was delayed. The most recent demos of the game for both consoles had the Switch version running at a more unstable framerate than the WiiU version, indicating it's optimization wasn't as far along. It's a port.

People are "complaining" because the only high profile Switch launch title is a port of a WiiU game. There are less games at launch than the Wii, WiiU or 3DS had. Mario is holiday 2017. Splatoon is summer. Mario Kart is 2 months after launch and it's also a port. This thing is looking anemic and it isn't even out yet. There is little point purchasing it until it has dedicated high profile games you can't buy on the existing console.

It appears that the Wii U version is coming out on March 31st, according to Amazon. 4 weeks after the Switch release.

So a port with a dick move delay on the original version to try and get people off the dead console and onto the new one.

It doesn't matter how many fancy words you use to disguise an argument void of any facts, you simply can't waive away completely contradictory statements that are on public record.

Like for example saying you got to know a person very well, met them multiple times, had good face to face conversations -vs- you never met them.

Unless you live in one of those "post-fact" bubble worlds that is.

As others have mentioned just switch hardware vendors, the software platform was unrelated to the problem. But coming from an Apple site I guess it isn't surprising they view the world through a cult-like single supplier.

Finding a Mario game offensive is when you know you've hit rock bottom on your crusade. Also, did they just assume Mario's gender? Shameful.

Next the writer will find Tetris shapes to be too phallic.

Another technologically backward console with a gimmick. After how badly they bungled the WiiU they lost me as a customer. Only a Retro developed Metroid could pique my interest at this point.

its like going to McDonald and ordering a big-mac, then pulling up to the window and the cashier hands you a combo with fries and a coke. You say i didn't order that, and they reply, the car behind you paid for everyone to have a combo order for the next 1 million customers. Then you get pissed because you didn't want the fries and a coke because it makes you fat, but you sure as hell going to eat them just for spite even if you didn't want or pay for them.

In this case there has been no sign of the Big Mac in years, with no ETA for when it's ready. And those bonus fries have been delivered first despite not being ordered originally, and they aren't finished cooking yet.

And anyone who bought into the hype was a fool. Come on folks. Many people here are the same ones who sat through Black and White, Spore and Fable. Why does anyone believe outrageous claims?

I think it's safe to say that the folks here were suspicious, I recall direct comparisons to Spore and Star Citizen. But this kind of bad dev behavior still needs to be called out.

Plus it is kinda annoying how a couple years ago we were celebrating an apparent renaissance of PC space sims with a number of (at the time) good looking titles in the pipeline, only for it to fizzle out so damn hard.

Didn't think much would come of it, but hopefully the backlash will still act as a lesson to the industry. I don't put too much faith in that hope though.

i sure there were a few misleading statements, but even if they were all true, it would still be a soulless piece of shit game. either way, it's exactly the game i thought it was going to be and i can't fathom how people ever expected otherwise.

Here is a pretty long list of gameplay functions either promised, mentioned, shown in video or "live" gameplay that do not exist in the game. I haven't seen a single person complain about missing story elements. They were promoting a game similar in depth to Elite Dangerous and the final product is a fraction of it. It's one of the biggest cases of false advertising in gaming history, potentially the worst.

I was out walking my dog on the trail behind my house and I ran into this guy walking his dog. Started talking. He's a developer who works at CIG here in Austin. Says he's working on Star Citizen. I just smiled and said I was familiar with the company. What do you say when you meet a stranger who owes you money?

Was it a real dog, or was it a picture of a potential future virtual dog that they paid a few thousand for? Did they snag lifetime insurance for it?
