I'm not in the loop, but HOW do these cheaters cheat?

Are they hacking the game? What's going on? How are they able to cheat in the first place? If it's a security issue, maybe Relic should lock down their code/servers better?

I'm genuinely curious. All these news bites about cheaters being banned, and not a lot of information on how/what the cheating entails. Someone clue an old man in! :-)

So here's the truth:

I don't care to save 10$ on a video game. I use steam because it's easy and convenient for me to use. I understand I can buy from GOG and then put the key into steam for example but why would I even bother looking there.

I'm not the only middle aged man with cash and not enough time that does this I'm assuming.

You should buy from GOG to support the idea of DRM free software, and because they do a hell of a job keeping classics "alive" for new generations. Especially if you are a wealthy middle-aged man you can easily contribute in a good way by throwing them your cash.

We should all support GOG by buying stuff from them.
Only place online that gives a crap about older gems (commercial site, mind you, because there are certainly sites for abandonware and historic gaming).
They have made so many good deals to bring classics back to new generation - heck, they even struck a deal with LucasArts for the old adventure games which was considered damn near impossible.

In my youth, the name "MicroProse" was the epitome of game developers. I knew it would be a good game. Seeing it in the news triggers that ol' nostalgia. :-)
Firaxis was made through the ashes of MicroProse and took the mantle for a while.
Nowadays, the only sure-fire stuff on PC is Rockstar's GTA and CD Project Red's Witcher series, though Firaxis still delivers solid strategy games.

Never seen this much post-deleting in a thread on Blues. I guess 2019 is the new 2018. :-)

That said, Ubisoft are making a lot of people angry lately. Quite the fall they are going through on social media.

It's crazy that this beta is so short. Magic Arena is far from complete and has been in beta for months on end.

This game looks great, but to not have all of these things figured out by now is a terrible sign. Economy in TCGs is one of the most important things!

I couldn't give a fuck about Sid Meier, one-trick pony. Sure, the original Civ was fantastic, I remember being amazed by it when I was in 4th grade but Alpha Centauri was better than any Civ game - to this day - and he didn't even work on it.

My vote would go to the all around whacky guy, Richard Garriot. I mean without the Ultimas other great games we have come to know and love like Baldur's Gate, Fallout, Daggerfall/Elder Scrolls, WoW or even System Shock & Thief might never have seen the light of day.

Flight sim pioneer, and the man behind Railroad Tycoon, Civilization, and Pirates. Not to mention his input and dedication to Firaxis, one of the premier PC-centric game developers still going today. His time running and co-leading Microprose was what made him historic though.

Brian Fargo is a part-owner of Fig, which is why they are using Fig.

Obsidian and Inxile are partnering up for a lot of these games "behind the scenes", and Fargo is the bigwig at InXile.

The remastered KQ and Quest for Glory are very well done. Excellent, I'd say. Played them through with my wife and we enjoyed them a lot.

Why not revive Eye of the Beholder series, these were better than Bards Tale IMHO.

I second this.

The new 5th Edition ruleset for D&D is the best iteration yet (imo).

However, depending on what camp you are in, it either doesn't lend itself too easily to CRPG's or it makes everything much easier. ;-)

The rules are less strict, and GM control is back as a very deciding factor. So if you are a company that works best within a constant frame, 5e is not too good, whereas if you are good to adapt, I suspect 5e is the easiest D&D system yet to turn into a computer game concept.

That said, I would love for someone to try and make a new D&D game with 5e rules. The Baldur's Gate games have still not been surpassed.

I would also be delighted to see a remake of Shattered Lands, or heck Al-Quadim even and experience that cool world in an outright CRPG.

I'm going to Birmingham too, and researched it a little.

Civil Rights Institute should be a chilling and memorable experience.
Mt. Ruffner Mountain nature center/park should provide some nice vistas and hiking. We're staying with some people from Couchsurfing, so can't really tell you much, but the town seems interesting.

Guidebooks say that nothing is happening in downtown, but the surrounding cityscape should be nice. Vulcan Park gets good reviews too.
